- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- Originating in Iowa in 1926, the Maid Rite Loose Meat Sandwich has become a favorite throughout the Midwest. A simple sandwich to make, just season the ground chuck beef, mix with sautéed onions and mustard then serve loose on buttered and toasted hamburger buns. A delicious sandwich in about 15 minutes.
Servings: 1
Shopping List:
1/2 lb. ground chuck beef 80/20
Generous spray of beef broth
Salt, pepper and garlic powder blend to taste
Hamburger buns
Butter
1/4 white onion, roughly chopped
1 tbsp. yellow mustard
Dill pickle slices for garnish
Directions:
Over medium high heat, brown the ground beef. When almost browned, spray with a generous amount of beef broth, if cooking on a flattop. If cooking in a skillet, just pour in the broth and cook until most liquid has evaporated. Continue to cook until browned. Keep warm.
Sauté the onions and season with SPG and add the mustard. Mix well.
Toast the buns with butter.
Add the loose browned ground beef to the bottom bun and top with the bun crown.
Garnish with pickles and serve immediately.

Hi chef, I actually have been through Iowa on a road trip to Chicago and stopped at a mom and pop diner and had this. It was so funny. No muss no fuss, just good! Thanks for bringing back a great food memory!
You’re welcome . Yes. Very good. Thanks so much.
I'm from Iowa City and remember having these as a kid... I miss them and am glad you brought back the memories.... I'm going to have one soon. Thanks!

Here where we live in the beautiful mountain state of West Virginia, we call that a loose meat patty melt cause we add the cheese. 👍
Great! I sure thought about adding cheese. Thanks for watching.
Richard, great recipe & I've seen these on a couple of food shows, they look delicious, sloppy but good, I think they are big in the Midwest such as Iowa, Kansas, etc... I am gonna make this as I have always wanted to try, very nice pal
Yes. Created at a restaurant in Muscatine, Iowa in 1926. Thanks
@@RICHARDINTHEKITCHEN a definite make pal, looks delicious
Sorry, not even close ... but thanks for sharing.
Sarcastic and mean and unnecessary
@@RyanC50325Everyone has their own version of everything. No one can do it like the original, but not even close is a little mean. Maybe he doesn't know how to cook, it looked good to me!
I first heard of the loose meat sandwich on Roseanne. I don’t remember if they explained or showed a closeup of the finished product and always assumed it was more along the lines of the Philly steak meat instead of ground beef. Regardless, it sure looked tasty enough to give it a go!
Great! I think you’ll enjoy it. Thanks for watching.
Very nice 👍
Thanks so much for watching.
Thanks That Looks Delicious
Thanks for watching.
My recipe contains 7 spices, fresh garlic, beef broth, vinegar, Worcestershire, and real butter. Simmered 2 hours. Served with or without cooking juices on a burger bun or sub roll, and if desired, topped with diced sweet onions. Delicious.
Sounds great! Thanks for watching.
I feel like such a dolt, I thought these sandwiches were made famous by The Lanford Lunchbox. Imagine my surprise, tee hee! 😂
lol. Thanks for watching.
Fantastic
Thanks for watching.
Sooooooo good!
Thanks for watching.
Thats a good looking sandwich...sorta reminds of a chop cheese minus all the fixins.
Yeah it does. Thanks so much for watching.
Still don't wanna stop over,but I will.
LOL. Sure. Thanks for watching and happy Thanksgiving.
Damn, its a burger but without having to mold a burger. So its even better!
Thanks for watching.
The seasonings described won’t provide the umami (savory) flavor that other recipes achieve by using Worcestershire sauce. I think a little soy paste or dark soy sauce might help, too.
@@mencken8 Good tip. Thanks for watching.
Made famouser by Rosanne!🤣
Lol. Thanks for watching.
yes sir, thats where I first heard of them!
I love these yum
Thanks for watching.
I grew up with this sandwich. Back when we used real beef & beef fat.
@@toddmeier9743 Yessir. Back when FDA stayed out of what makes food tastes good. Thanks for watching.
The Maid-Rite in my town makes them with cheese. But nothing else no french fries no BBQ sauce no mayonnaise no tomatoes no lettuce nothing I don't think they even give you silverware so the meat that flops down on your rapper you have to grab with your fingers. They should call them Maid Wrong honestly!😅 I get mine to go then cross the street to Hardee's and grab curly fries with it
Good story. Thanks for watching.
is the beef broth for flavor?
@@joshgledhill4941 yes. Thanks for watching.
People in iowa hate to season anything
Really? Wow! Thanks for watching.
This is not Iowa”s favorite sandwich and I know this as I am from Iowa! Literally almost no one chooses this sandwich to eat!
Thanks for the info.
Hey there Richard. 42yr Iowan here and I can tell you that it is indeed one of Iowas favorite sandwiches. Not sure what rock this guys been living under but we have 2 favorites here in town. The Charlie Boy at Miles Inn, and Tastee In and Out. We also Have Billy Boy drive thru, and they even serve them as local favorites at our Dairy Queens in town.@@RICHARDINTHEKITCHEN
Bullion, garlic powder, salt. This has got to be a salt lick of a burger. If you are adding bullion do not add salt. I would also recommend NOT seasoning beef with beef. I like to use the mexican brand vegetable or tomato bullion.
Thanks for watching.
I know you might think f*ck it ju I forgot dude my bad
How many bites before you end up with two empty buns and a lap full of loose meat?
LOL. I know, right? Actually, I was thinking the same thing when I put it all together. I remember laughing and thinking this thing is going to explode! lol I was amazed when I sat down to eat and most of it stayed together. Thanks for watching.
This is not the recipe for Iowa maid- rite
