      I agree. And you saying this made me really think. If this is true, then it is the moral responsibility of those who fall in between to help the poor. More specifically, these people should, only if they have the means, help those who are poor. History has taught us there is no help for the wealthy. Therefore, those who have the means to help have a moral obligation to do so in a civil society.

      @@flourishingrecovery And when those in the middle can't afford to take care of themselves thanks to corporate greed allowed by our corrupt politicians, then those poor people get ZERO help!! How many of those rich people tout that they are "Christian" while turning their noses up at the impoverished? Also, the middle pays enough in taxes that there should be a certain level of socialism here. Yet there isn't. We paid $11 BILLION dollars in tax payer subsidies to pharma companies for their R&D just to have some prescriptions come out costing $200,00 PER DOSE - with ZERO price checks from our government - and those same exact drugs cost maybe $20,000 in every other country. Because their governments protect them from corporate greed. Unlike here in the US where almost every politician on BOTH sides are bought by those corporations and is why there is no policy to help people. And SCOTUS is getting ready to allow corporations to pollute our air and water at will. Profits over people every time in this corrupt country!!! Vote them ALL out!!

    If workers aren't payed enough, how are they expected to be able to pay for the things they need and keep the money circulating through the economy? Don't these companies understand that they can't make money if people don't have money to spend? Not only is paying your workers a livable wage is the right and humane thing to do, but not doing so is stupid because it not only will hurt the poor workers, but hurt the entire economy.

      Corporations are incentivised to keep wages low in order to increase profits. Incentives like tax laws that permit companies to pay $0 in taxes while raking in record profits, corporate subsidies and bail outs, monopolistic corporations overpriced, short-lived goods and shitty services, government officials allowing corporations and corporate lobbyists to write and pay off the "fairly elected representatives of the people" to then pass said law, and then there is the whole little thing about money and corruption in American politics. Oh, and let's not forget what those companies who are making historical record-breaking profits are then doing with it. Instead of investing in the wellbeing of the very people who enable them to make all that money, they turn around and put it "into the economy" by stock buybacks.

    Wage growth makes no noticble changes to inflation. Tariffs do. When Tariffs get passed, corporations raise their prices to just under the new price that tariffs make foreign goods. Imagine a widget cost $100. When Trump passed 25% tariffs, that widget went from $100 to $125 when imported. This allowed American businesses to raise the price of their widgets from $100 to $124, which allows them a competitive advantage against imported widgets while simultaneously maximizing profits for shareholders. This rise in price is inflation to us.

    Wage increases are not the major cause of the inflation many countries are dealing with. This inflationary pressure is from the supply side, caused by suppliers of goods having higher costs BUT ALSO from those same suppliers taking advantage of that to massively jack up prices when not needed. Workers only want a wage increase that compensates for those higher prices which has a very minimal effect on inflation if at all. Suppliers see _some_ increases in cost so they greedily increase _all_ prices and often by more than they need to.

    • @Yodie208
      @Yodie208 7 місяців тому

      " inflationary pressure is from the supply side, caused by suppliers of goods having higher costs"...Why do suppliers have higher costs that cause inflation? Hint: A banking cartel that has a printing press that is used to debase the currency. And an out-of-control Congress that keeps spending money that they do not have.

    • @pagandragon830
      @pagandragon830 7 місяців тому +1

      FYI, accountant here, companies do NOT make record profits if their costs go up. They make them when their costs stay the same (or close to it) and they still raise prices. They do that because they can due to lack of competition (monopolies) and lack of regulation on price gouging. CEO pay has increased 1460% from 1978-2021 where worker pay has increased 18.1% in the same time period. So WORKER pay has nothing to do with it.

    Inflation is caused by a combination of two things: rising profits or rising wages. No reasonable person can say that the current levels of inflation are being caused because wage earners have things too good. Under capitalism, the only tool to address inflation that is recognized is increasing interest rates, because this creates unemployment which makes wage earners more desperate, and willing to do the same work for less money. The reason this didn’t really work last time is because workers wages are already at rock bottom. If you want inflation to go down then corporations need to be made less profitable… which means corporate taxes need to go up.

    "I'll use my checking account instead". Wow. We haven't had checks here for what seems like ages. (I read up, apparently it is still possible to pay via checks here in Sweden, but there are steep fees if you do so. Finland, a neighboring country, stopped issue checks to private citizens in 1993).

    • @pagandragon830

      She calls it a checking account because that is what the account is called - a CHECKING account as opposed to a SAVINGS account. It doesn't mean she uses actual checks. In fact, most of us have a checking account but not physical checks as we use our debit cards instead. Don't be fooled by what the account is called. The only people who still write checks are the Baby Boomer generation (my mom's generation, I'm GenX). They don't like paying online and still have all of their bills physically mailed to them. Then, they write a check and mail that payment in. I told my mom that when she's too old to do her own bill paying that I'm switching all her stuff to emailed bills, auto payments and manual online payments (since I'll be doing it).
