I don't like this quote.
I have met many people, and at first, due to misunderstandings, it looked like they would not get along with me.
Yet fast forward into the future, and now I know them, they are very nice people and we get along.
If you just believed what you saw first time, you may misunderstand ultimately nice people, or on the flip side, be deceived by ultimately malicious people.
I don't agree with this quote, because you may think someone has "showed you who they were", but they haven't, and it was a misunderstanding.

My experience is often that people are false or masquerading as kind natured upon initial meeting, but soon they show their true selves, manipulative, selfish and evil.

Interesting experience.
Just to underline something terrifying: Today, the nuclear weapons are way more powerful than the ones used in the history.
They always were; nothing new.
That is not strictly true. The strategic nuclear weapons are vastly more powerful, but the tactical battlefield weapons, of which Russia has many, can be of very limited yield. Most likely scenarios are:
1 - Putin uses a tactical battlefield weapon in Ukraine to measure the wests response.
2 - Putin detonates a (more powerful) weapon over the sea (perhaps the north or Norwegian sea) to again measure the response.
The odds of going directly to the full strategic nuclear weapons are vanishingly small. What the west does in either of the above scenarios will decide the future of this planet. Backdown and Putin wins, escalate and we all die, a proportionate detonation (perhaps in the barents sea) to prove that the west is also willing to detonate nuclear weapons if provoked might be the proportionate response.

Quite the opposite. Nuclear weapons are the only reason we didn't had ww3 yet. They are only for deterrance. MAD or the so called mutual assured destruction is and agreement and the world leaders understand that. So does Putin. And you also need to understand, that there are about 15 thousands of nuclear warheads in the world which is not enough to wipe out humanity as such. In addition not all of them are operational and only a very small amount of them are the size of the tsar bomba. The majority are small tactical warheads. Sure, in case of full scale nuclear war millions if not billions will loose their lives, but also billions will survive and live on. Nuclear winter is also only a theory since we never had one and it is very complicated to predict. All I am saying is that don't loose your sleep over nuclear war. It takes much more than that to destroy planet earth and all humanity.
But nuclear weapon prevented many wars and third world war.
America is the only nation who has ever used nukes.
To paraphrase what the economist said before the war started, regardless of if Putin launched nukes or not, he's turned his regime into one that could.
They've had the dead-hand system since the cold war I think, if that could still be used
Meanwhile no one cares about how innocent ppl including women and babies in Somalia just got bombed by America days ago… so hypocritical…
If they did not use Nuclear War in the Cold War there is no way they will use it here. The Cold War was full brown nuclear rivalry. People might say that the suspicion that the NATO or the West would attack Putin but Now, Putin is just scared because he has seen so much invasion, Libya; Afghanistan, and Iraq to so say a few which destabilized the then governments. No wonder he is in high alert.
But we should never justify nuclear weapons, the issue about nuclear weapons is that he kills more than you can ever imagine.
Nuclear bombs has stopped war between the powerful countries for many years now from Nagasaki and Hiroshima but never again I would want to see it.

Its frightening, I fear if Putin is pushed into a corner he might think I have nothing to loose.
Even 1% of chance that will happen is too much a price to pay for.
I see three senarios all with tactical size weapons:
1) If he can not take Kiev in a few weeks, he might launch one just to end the resistence.
2) Belarus has asked for getting nuclear weapons back from Russia. The dictator Lukashenko would do anything to please his master, including launch a weapon against Kiev.
3) Putin detonate a nuclear weapon in the Baltic sea, just to show the world he dare.
For all three case he would not be attacking a member of NATO, so no article 5. We can not attack Russia, without starting WW3. Economic sanctions? We are already doing those!
We have played all the cards we can play, except the last card we do not want to play.
Using dial a yield or anything else nuclear in Ukraine would be like slicing open a skunk. Putin would get radiation fallout all over Russia and bring other states into this if he did. We played our cards very wrong here and the genie is out of the bottle. We may have to come down from our ivory tower and negotiate on Putins terms to end this. He is going to demand removal of the Aegis Ashore batteries from Romania and Poland and the pullback of UN and US troops from Poland's eastern frontier and a promise to keep open Nordstream just to get hostilities ended. I hope the people in the oval have the brains to figure out what to demand in return to make it workable.

You’ll know the world is coming to an end when the following happens. You notice way more air traffic then normal. The military in major city airports will be rushing to get assets off the ground be they fighter, tanker or transport. Next is you’ll be seeing larger then normal civilian aircraft landing wherever is closest. EMP tends to damage aircraft electronics and a pulse would turn them into falling hulks, better to fly down then fall down. Time of an attack is another factor. Do you want to inflict maximum damage to infrastructure while minimizing casualties say by attacking after evening rush hour. Or are you looking to inflict maximum casualties by attacking major cities say at 9am? Once launched a missile has a 30 minute flight so if you see US missiles in flight assume you’ve got 20 minutes cause the other guy launched 5 minutes before you. A us counter strike will likely use all land based missiles cause they’re already targeted. Once one hits your survival odds diminish greatly depending on how close you are to the blast

“I say yes, mainly on Ukraine” No, Russia doesn’t need to fire nukes on Ukraine. It’s super obvious that Russia is slow-rolling the invasion and trying not to go full blitzkrieg. If Russia was really that frustrated, they could simply send more troops and tanks. If they really wanted to turn Ukraine into glass, they can easily do that without a single nuke.
Yes, but this video did not address battlefield Nuclear weapons, which are far more likely to be used to alter the current trajectory of the war with Ukraine. the more success Ukraine has in slowing Russia the more likely it is that Russia would use their battlefield nuclear weapons to force Ukraine into surrender. Remember the ruthless attack on Grozny by Russian conventional forces which literally flattened the entire City with sustained bombing, artillery and missile attacks. If cornered Putin will use anything at his disposal to achieve swift victory if his army bogs down.
They have plenty of conventional artillery and thermobaric bombs to flatten most of Ukraine. USA used Nukes on non nuke country like Japan. Putin will do the same as USA or will not do it that we dont know . But he will do it by his choice . But Nato & West has to respect him as 5000+ Nuke arms owner .
@@coderpup4639 Yeah, we’ve got those too….pretty old tech at that. My dad helped test them up in Alaska in the 60s. One saving grace may be that it doesn’t appear as though the Russians have maintained their military equipment especially well…hopefully if they attempted it we’d wind up with a Sideshow Bob scenario.
The thing I would worry about is NATO decides to "intervene" in Russia and Russia starts using small battlefield nukes an a force equalizer to repel NATO and it just snowballs from there.
Can we have a regular year for 1 whole year :(
So carl sagan said in his cosmos book....."we are nothing more than an emerging technalogical civilization struggling for survival " ....🇺🇸
Perhaps it look's like the end of a very, very long planning.
Agreed. This aggression was in the offing at least for 10 years.
So glad the reporter chose the Homer Simpson/GW Bush way to say 'nuclear'. A little humor helps brighten the mood from topics such as an ongoing war and whatnot.
6:03 - 6:24 This reminds me of a quote from The Hunt For Red October: "This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it."
What happens if someone deliberately fires nukes and tries to claim it was an accident ?
There's no way u can claim it was an accident
It’s not that easy mate
"Putting his forces on to higher alert readiness isn't a preparation for using them".
Yes, it actually is.
"He's not about to launch missiles at the West".
You mean like he was never going to actually invade Ukraine?
The difference is: if he launches missiles at the West, he is going to get them launched at him
@@miyahtallulah Maybe, maybe not.
Russian military doctrine includes the concept of tactical nukes (artillery, mines, short range missiles, torpedos etc.) as part of an escalate-to-de-escalate scenario.
NATO war planners are well aware of this, and may very well decide NOT to respond to a singular use of tactical nuclear weapons on the battlefield.
Instead, NATO will probably attempt to capitalise politically/diplomatically on Russia's use of nukes.
After all... even China and India don't want Russia to be using nukes, and will probably apply pressure to Russia.
@@w0mblemania I agree. Everyone assumes MAD automatically if 1 nuke is launched but I think the West would take a different tactic. That being said, if he does it once it will be easier the 2nd time.
Most intelligence knew he would invade Ukraine, and said so.

I have always held The Economist as perhaps the finest news outlet. I am very sad that they now are unable to even pronounce NuCLEAR properly.
This boggles the mind. It’s literally the words “nu” and “clear”, yet they insist on saying “nucilar”. Like how? Really? Asking for a friend. I hope Siri doesn’t say this ish.

I mean were they supposed to be in low alert usually?
Does anyone know at what point this will stop? Like what is the point of this

this is a sign of weakness, putin will be the same reason why russia will fall just like how he make russia rise, i hope when he give that order i hope his generals will think twice and really think about it.
It's continually said that Putin's warning of using nuclear weapons is evidence of fear. I doubt it, as Putin is not the fearful type. Believing Putin is a little fearful makes people feel safer, hoping it will prevent him launching nuclear missiles, but it is in their imagination and wishful thinking.
Putin has planned the invasion meticulously. It may not be going as per his plans right now but ultimately Russia will prevail.Ukraine is a big country and it will some time and effort to subdue it.
Every time “Nuke-you-lar” is said, take a shot.
Wow thanks world economic forum i never knew that a nuclear superpower was capable of war🙄
The fact he's prepared to makes the need to break this country apart an urgent necessity.
I hope our best minds are working on this problem: Putin is an accomplished KGB leader, skilled in deception. IS he approaching his "breaking point", where he may cave in to stress and start a nuclear war, or does he just want us to THINK that?
When football teams get ready for important games, they think about their specific opponents. I'm sure our leaders do the same. I hope they're working smart and assiduously.
Lol, ASSiduously.
That's part of the problem. Our best minds are NOT in govt right now and the rank amateurs are running the show. Proof? I give you winkin Blinken and nod and the focus group expert Sullivan. Those people know almost nothing about security policy and none have been to war college for formal training. NONE Hopefully they will throw up their hands and ask for help.
Your leaders like Biden
He is doing it. He decided the moment the tanks left their Military base. Every powerplant is a nuclear threat. Always, everywhere. For decades this is the case.
Absolute bs...
Fear is the real threat
I like to listen to Shashank's comment, because of his calmness and real analysis. Sometimes I feel people are just saying words with overwhelming emotions, which could be understood but not help with the situation.
I think hes pretty bad actually, just talking too much without being objective, not even explaining every argument. He just assumes with confidence but just that assuming with confidence. You cant "assume" in this matters.
@@worldpoliticalandeconomicn633 It's subjective in my opinion
People can say all kinds of seemingly rational words and analysis when sitting inside an AC room. Their minds get boggled in real world situations and Putin is also not acting rationally here.
By the west and EU, marginalising him, he's only getting more psychologically cornered and moving towards more extreme steps.
“Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak” - Sun Tzu, The Art of War.
In other words, the West does not need to announce that it has nuclear weapons; Putin does.
It doesn't matter if he needs to announce it or not. All that matters is that he's going to nuke the US. Avangard hypersonics are too fast, there's no defence against them. If the enemy is stronger, avoid him. That's the Art of War that applies here but America is too foolish to view Russia as being stronger now. America suffers from collective dishonesty, delusion, arrogance and inability to confront reality. Some apparent disorder and weakness sending troops into Ukraine is a distraction. The Art of War again: Feign disorder and crush the enemy.
@@markhirstwood4190 he would be nuked in turn, so i doubt it

@@markhirstwood4190 Russia can't even mow through Ulraine and you think they're stronger than the US? Lol. If the US wanted to take out Ukraine, it would take a day. Our militaries aren't even close! They have hypersonic missiles (so they say)! But in a nuclear war, everyone loses anyway. In a conventional war, Russia doesn't have nearly the equipment or training the US soldiers have.
2:44 I was on one of those subs. You can be assured Putin will not want to mess with us in that regard. My Sub is the modern "big stick" Theodore Roosevelt referred to when he said "speak softly and carry a big stick".
I lovin it ❤️
In an era were an orbiting satellite camera can read the text on a newspaper that is laying on the ground, how come a person who threatens the destruction of the entire world is still breathing?
"Lasers"
Because the West claims to operate under the rule of international law. But maybe someone forgot to tell the CIA and other security service “operatives” 🤞🏽
Russia's Putin threatening use of nuclear warheads against foes comes as a result of Putin's frustration with the slow-paced invasion. This is humiliating for this megalomaniac Bolshevik in disguise. Apparently he and his military advisers came forth with a plan that now seems overambitious and miscalculated the deterrence of Ukraine, which now seems to be getting all kinds of help. Russia....this is your second Afghanistan!
Putin is pretty far from being a Bolshevik. He is more like Red Tsarists.
Well said! But this wont end well.

Wrong. The troops seeming weak now is a distraction. Putin's going to nuke the US. Russia has won in advance. There's no defence against Avangard hypersonics. Mutually assured destruction doesn't actually exist as it's not 50/50. He who loses least, wins. How many Russians are deep underground in safe bunker complexes already? Enough, I bet.
