Thank you for sharing your knowledge about the prickly pear being an adhesive for the paint. I am painting an Apache bow with your pigment paints and now i know how to make it more authentic!
Thank you so much on this video!.......there is almost nothing on the web for applying pigment to leather as the Plains Indians did. I just started to make beaded War Shirts. I won Grand Champion at our Combined County Fair.......and I used acrylic paint but , want to use powdered pigmentations......thank you!
You can use acrylic paint, you will want to really rub it into the leather. We also use powdered pigment paint mixed with egg whites or glue. You can see an example of how here ua-cam.com/video/9UL7P9buhCA/v-deo.html . Thanks for watching!
I'm interested in painting a mural on a bison hide to look like the cave paintings in Lascaux France. No clue how they were originally done on the cave walls 60,000 years ago. I've thought about airbrushing but I don't want to invest in something I won't use again. Any hints are appreciated.
Hello, Thanks for watching. If the drum is already made, use a damp towel and lay it over the drum to soften the rawhide. Then process the pigment so add water or glue. Once the head is a bit soften paint your design and let dry.
I had to watch this a gain just to see the great coat you made. really a piece of art!! Enjoy your shop as well.

When using acrylic paints should the rawhide be wet to start?
Hey thanks for watching! The rawhide does not need to be wet to paint.
Thanks for the video!! I want to paint faux suede and rawhide. What paint is best? I was told acrylic and leather paint. What do you suggest?

How well does the pigment and glue paint work on rawhide?
You will want to work the paint into the rawhide by rubbing it in, but the pigment and glue paint works well. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! I would use a brush and sponges, I would use a egg white binder if using the pigment paints.
How do you use the pigment on a rawhide drum head?
Hello, Thanks for watching. If the drum is already made, use a damp towel and lay it over the drum to soften the rawhide. Then process the pigment so add water or glue. Once the head is a bit soften paint your design and let dry.
@@thewanderingbull9843 thank you
If applying to a hand drum, would do use neatfoot oil before or after painting?
Can the egg whites method be used on wood as well? I'm a bow maker and I usually use hide glue but this seems alot easier
Hello Thanks for watching. Sorry I am unsure on using egg white on the wool. We have only used it on leather.
@@thewanderingbull9843 ok thx I'll give it a shot
How the native indians made the pigments?
