I am currently in my free trial week, and it has not fulfilled my expectations. It provides some sources, but they are very random and definitely not the kind of sources I would include in a paper. It seems like this AI only has access to a very limited amount of published researched or, alternatively, it's just very bad.

I never rely on one app. These apps should be treated as one of the assistants. Apart from AI apps, I am doing my own source finding in a traditional way. No AI app is perfect yet, as you know. Scite may find some sources and for some disciplines, it does a really good job. What makes Scite unique is its smart citations feature which can show you whether the articles were refuted or supported.
I see your experience, but what were your search request? No AI tool is perfect, but Scite is quite powerful one and many are satisfied with its assistance.
It only give you like two references, no matter how robust you ask the writing to be, and use these same references again and again in every paragraph. : (
