Trying Clickbait Clothing "Hacks" From Instagram

  • So I've been seeing these clothing and fashion hack videos all over Instagram, and they always seem so incredibly strange that I decided to test a bunch of them out and see how they were! We tried a few out from different instagram accounts and pages and ended up with a boxer bralette, a laminated shirt, a skirt weighed down with coins, a bra strap necklace, and napkin shoes!
Don't forget to cast your tattoo vote at the end of the video before Tuesday afternoon!
BTW, if you don't see the "i" icon in the corner to vote on the tattoo, try hovering or clicking on the screen to see it in the corner!
Don’t forget to click the bell to turn on post notifications!

With the graphic tee hack, I think that there's a reason that we see a child and a man wearing them. The graphic is literally a stiff picture attached to the shirt. It couldn't survive boobage.

The "hack" final result was probably done with transfer paper specially made for that stuff. Looks like when I used to make graphic tees for myself as a Teen~ those transfers actually are flexible enough to survive even a decent amount of boobage

I think there might be something out there that you can sew into the hems to do the job and is made just for that. I'm a bit into sewing and such so ik there's so many things out there that are hardly known or found in fast fashion items and some are really cool and should be there in your everyday clothes but idk for sure if there's something that's specified for this issue as I personally never had it since I usually make/wear maxi skirts made from thick fabric (my preference for comfort) so both the length and the fabric make the skirt heavy enough on its own

The shoe thing is real, and it’s called “decoupage,” but from what I can tell it’s a little more involved than the hack would lead you to believe. It looks like Saf had the right idea about putting the paper in pieces first, and you should apply a layer of Modpodge under the paper, then smooth any wrinkles out before doing the top coat. I also think tissue or napkin might be too lightweight to get a good result.

If you're doing that to shoes, you have to use a thicker paper, like comic book pages or stronger. A thin layer to glue the paper to the shoe, then a little bit thicker layer on the top. Let it dry and cure, about a day, and it's ready when it's not tacky to the touch. Then you have to layer it again and let dry 24-48 hours again. If you're not too impatient, do it a third time. But 2 layers minimum.

Bonus: For best weight per dollar, consider using dimes, cents or pebbles. For maximum value use expensive jewelry.

Also 2) also I recommend adding mod-podging the shoe first then adding the napkin and then doing a second layer on top of the napkin.

Oh! Unprofessional but still interested here, about the napkin shoe hack
I’ve done that but with sneakers, and it works, but you have to separate the pattern from the napkin completely (napkins usually have more than one blank paper layer), and to paste and top coat it, mod podge, but a very thin layer, making sure it sticks.
    When it’s dry, spray it.
Im not sure if it would work with ‘plastic’ or leather shoes, but at least with shoe fabric, it very much does ☺️☺️

I think a lot of these hacks are meant to be upcycle. Like instead of throwing away your old bra you can turn it into something else. You should check out a UA-cam channel called Coolirpa. She does videos where she thrift for very dodgy clothing and then turn them into very nice clothes. Maybe you can try to follow one as well for a video.

    • @WeiYinChan
      @WeiYinChan 6 років тому +2

No joke, my friends and I would frequently take the strap from our convertible bras and wear them plain as chokers. Most people didn't even realize they were bra straps, and the hooks at the end attached nicely as a clasp.
...I'm suddenly also realizing I never had to adjust my straps to fit my neck after using them as intended... Does this mean my shoulder measurement is the same as my neck measurement....??? ....weird...
Anyway. That was back in like... 2005, I demand royalties.

lol you're supposed to coat the shoe in mod podge and then stick the napkin to it.
Let it dry and then coat the outside 😂😂🤦‍♀
Never realized how glad I am that I learned how to use mod podge in high school

Exactly. When she went right for the napkin on top the shoe I was like “oh no! What are doing?! I can’t watch.” 🙈😂😂 but maybe the original video didn’t explain that. Guess Only an experienced modpoger/crafter would know that? 🤷🏼‍♀️😋

I was thinking the same thing. Glue, napkin, another layer of glue let dry, and then clear coat

I think the colours also come into play too, like a white base napkin on a white shoe rather than a grey one on a black shoe

When Saf was making the choker and got burnt, all I could think was:
Ah yes, she has joined the hand burn blister club
