As someone who plays Nath with cards like Oppression, Contamination and Pox effects and 4C Omnath with cards like Mana Breach, Overburden and Storm Cauldron, I can confirm that I have no friends left.
Nath yes. But you NEED cards to fill their hands up too, for more discards. Howling mine etc. mine was too aggressive and they ran outa cards too fast, slowing me down... 4C omnath yes too. I have land return cards there, everyone gets lands back, but I play them again and again. It's so fun.
possesed portal actually could be really nasty in a deck like Zimone and Dina, you just keep bouncing lands and creating tokens to sac allowing it to stick around forever while eliminating your "friends" resources
Possessed Portal is one of my favorite cards of all time! Combined with Smokestack and on board recursion/token producers, is the only way I'm able to orgasm anymore. I knew things would change when I started taking estrogen, but thus surprised me. I used to be able to get off to just the Smokestack, but things have changed and now it takes the full lock to truly get me off.
Possessed Portal seems insanely good with Impulse decks like Prosper, Ragavan, or Rocco. I use Oppression in my Gix deck where the goal is to have everyone handless and hitting each other to draw cards.
@@Bearhuggerus yeah, I can imagine a world where it's like T1 Ragavan, T2 Goblin Engineer, make a treasure, turn 3 Scrap for Treasure and the game just sort of ends if no one has artifact removal
I think rule of law effects are handy if you're playing a deck that's not good on the stack. If you're running a boros deck with high cmc you might want to consider Rule of Law effects
Mana Breach plus Kodama of the East Tree is beautiful. You tell your group that you are playing it “For the synergy” and that you “just want to guarantee your landfall triggers” and then you watch them slowly erode their own board states! So pretty!
I'd say Rule of Law isn't all that bad to play into, it's basically an enchantment version of Eidolon of Rhetoric. Which I mean, it slows the game down, but if your opponent has a removal spell in hand right there, you've effectively wasted that spell and can't respond to it being removed. It leads to a fun game of cat and mouse with each player being forced to think their singular action through.
An interesting salty card that only works in 5 color EDH decks is Naked Singularity. It changes the colors of mana produced by each basic land type. It does have Cumulative Upkeep, but the deck I ran it in also had Aeon Hub, which removes the upkeep step. I only ever got it off once because I wanted to see how the table would handle it, then I promptly removed it from that deck.
i am a hard defender planeswalker narset, its sometimes a necessary thing to stop people drawing cards. she actually made it into my first commander deck because one of the decks i was playing against was werewolf bs drawing 8-12 cards per turn from combat stuff
My favorite cheap mass land destruction spell is 'From the Ashes.' For the low, low cost of 3 and a red you can instantly discern who at the table is responsible enough to play multiple basic lands in their deck. Heck, if they also play a lot of instant speed spells they get a free ritual for their troubles. (Sucks for that one 5C player, though)
It's fun against 5C decks but if people are responsible enough to run their basic lands, this card basically does nothing. The fact that they get to pick what lands come back means they can fix their manabase to be fine.
I like Destructive Force. I'm going to add it to my Osgir deck, I'm already running Wildfire, so why not. Heck, Armageddon sounds fun, too. I have a ton of artifact mana so it's basically a win con, right?
Pro tip with Possessed Portal; run it with effects like that on Taigam, Sidisi's Hand. You don't draw cards, you put them into your hand, getting around the inconvenience 😊
Possessed portal and a token creator every turn can result in a board lock leaving you with permanents and opponents top decking. I used to use it in Arcum Dagsson. if i could get to the point of having the creators in play i could just go find the lock. Also was just handy to slow down whenever I needed it as I made a lot of artifacts.
That last bit is the reason I think rule 0 talk is really important any time you sit down for a game of commander, even with a playgroup you're used to. My main playgroup is very casual with about no infinite combos and not too many counterspells in general so at the start of almost every game we bring multiple decks and if someone really wants to play one deck that can't deal with fogs then the player who has a fog deck won't play it. We always give room to try a new deck a few times before making a decision but then it can lead to a deck being "banned" like my Zada deck because it's just way too explosive so the only times I'll play it is when people come with tons of removal. That keeps each game somewhat balanced and fun for everyone.
One card that can cause a lot of salt is Wave of Vitriol, because if someone is playing a 5 color deck, chances are they do not have many basics. So often it's basically just all their lands gone. If you're playing 1 or 2 colors meanwhile it won't affect you that much. It also doubles as Enchantment and Artifact removal, so it can reset those players to almost zero as well.
The "casual" edh players at my LGS stopped complaining about my stax and hate pieces when they realized that: A.) I'm not changing my strategies to accommodate their wins B.) While the pieces may be irritating, they tend to punish greedy players a lot more than non greedy players C.) They are the one responsible for equipping their lists with the cards they need/want to play the game. IMO, it all comes down to this; if you don't want my list to have access to a card effect, then have the respect for the rules and design of the game to interact with that card effect with your deck building. Don't use non game actions to try and convince me to remove them from my list. That's just like stax, except you don't have to modify your game plan at all to get what you want. We're all playing the same game, we all have access to the same cards (assuming you're playing somewhere proxy friendly, and if your LGS isn't ok with proxies in a casual edh game find somewhere else to play) and were all limited to the same amount of cards. That stax/hate player had to make choices of what to include in their deck as well, and I've seen lots of games where the pieces you play just don't get it done.
Not as as salty because it needs a proper setup but "Worldslayer" equipped to Zurgo can create some serious amount of salt. Since Worldslayer destroys all permanents and Zurgo is indestructible on your turn, I have managed to do that leaving a wasteland(not the card) of a board . Let's say that the opponents did not expected that cause I already had pure steel paladin and when I casted the equipment,Zurgo was already in play and I equipped it for zero mana. All of the opponents were surprised but only one fella and as pleasantly surprised. The other two though....not so much - they decided to scoop. Since then I have not played my Zurgo deck again.

possessed portal is a powerhouse in Meria, Scholar of Antiquity-- Meria floods the board with cheap artifacts to sac, dodges the draw skip, and ramps into it easy
While I knew about 90% of these, this is a great idea for a list video. PK, do you have a list of unique staples that you personally like for all your decks? For instance, I love Sunbirds' Invocation and play it in every red deck.
If your playing the portal playing alot of activated effects that produce tokens is a really easy way to wether the storm till everyone is hellbent but you or with you.
My playgroup is very fine with players bringing MLD in decks and other stax pieces if it means nobody is allowed to get salty from infinite combo wins. My. Tameshi deck runs practically all of the cards in this video that it can run because Tameshi breaks the symmetry of cards like rule of law, possessed portal, and mana breach because he can play things from the graveyard, technically isn't casting anything with his ability, and draws a lot of cards from opponents returning their lands to hand. Another fun fact about Boil is that it is a red instant that can be tutored and cast by Sunforger. I have the two in every one of my equipment decks as a pure spite play if a blue player is about to win or kill me.

Having played with and against rule of law, it's honestly not thaaaaat bad, imo? Just makes people really have to make sure that their one spell counts!! If you go down the "resolve rule of law and counter all your shit" route tho, then it can be salt inducing, but I think that's more bc you're not letting them play, rather than just saying "oh we're doing one spell each, to keep it fair." That said, oppression is probably my most salt inducing card personally. It's not even that bad!! It's just that it makes me PICK a card to discard, every time!! It's like why being milled in paper is so frustrating, bc you have to manually do it every time, and see every card go.
My favorite “I’m a fucking dick” card is Spreading Plague: Whenever a creature enters the battlefield, destroy all other creatures that share a color with it. They can't be regenerated.
I feel like Rule of Law is the least oppressive/annoying/salty card on the list here. Sure its annoying but generally it's going to keep the people that are ahead down and give the people that are behind a chance to potentially catch up

I run both boil and flashfires in my mono red goblin deck. lol.
Notably Hokori plus Eon hub is an A+B=lands dont untap.
Ever.
My friends are so loose after this video
Painful Quandary. I have an copy enchantment deck. So imagine 6 Painful Quandarys at the same time >:3
My favorite “I’m a fucking dick” card is Spreading Plague:
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield, destroy all other creatures that share a color with it. They can't be regenerated.
Eldrazi gonna have fun with that
I feel like Rule of Law is the least oppressive/annoying/salty card on the list here. Sure its annoying but generally it's going to keep the people that are ahead down and give the people that are behind a chance to potentially catch up
I hope this loosing word was intentional...
Of course.... :|
I know I've said it elsewhere....but voltron narset, enlightened master with 19 land destruction effects to hit into in combat. I am not a nice person
I've lost a lot of money this year... damn I hope next year is better for prices...
Possessed portal is made for Muldrotha
As a poor person who plays magic, thank you for the recommendations
No Spelltithe Enforcer??? No og Sheoldred? Prophery Nodes think I spelled that one wrong but still....
MLD is historically paired with a win con on board.
Don't play MLD without a way to win soon
Just leave an unlockable 2/2 indestructible creature up and every turn nuke the board of lands you'll eventually win 60 turns from now
Sounds like a clock to me @@johnathanreynolds1108
