Sarah Haider is an activist and a writer who became a noted figure in the new atheist movement around 2013 when she co-founded the advocacy group Ex-Muslims of North America. That is a nonprofit that promotes secular values, advocates for acceptance of religious dissent and works to combat discrimination faced by people who leave Islam in the U.S. and Canada.
Her work there led to her trenches of the new free speech and free-think movements, and she now writes on Substack, covering issues around race, identity, gender and social politics of various kinds. Despite their 20-year age difference, Sarah and Meghan have a lot of overlapping interests; the monoculture of elite media, the social and political myopia of elites in general, the inconvenient truths of the mating economy and misconceptions around men’s rights, to name just a few.
🔥 This interview was such a hit that Meghan and Sarah decided to start their own podcast shortly thereafter. That is ‪@aspecialplaceinhellpodcast‬ which you can find here! / @aspecialplaceinhellpo...

"By 56%-39%, Americans say 'woke' means being aware of social injustice, not being overly politically correct." (USA TODAY/Ipsos Poll)

Post-modern wokish are masters at word play. They hide their discrimination with harmless words but when they implement their policies their real equality interpretation comes do it.
      For example anti-racist.
Everyone supports the liberal interpretation. The woke mean anti-white when they say anti-racist!

Great discussion! Thank you! In the United States you need a third or even a fourth political party, one which offers a more sensible approach, one that creates policy around reality - evidence based policy and an approach allowing for comparative studies with other countries. The U.S. is an outlier in so many ways. I'm Canadian and going to Europe for only three weeks offered up some amazing contrasts to our North American culture. And I had a bout of culture shock returning from a three-week trip to Ghana. Africans have totally messed up right-wing and left-wing politics. It throws you for a loop if you live amongst Africans for a while. Politics and religion are mixed with tribal concerns and their love of their culture. Culture is mixed with their desire to be industrially and economically advanced, but it will spin your head as to how they construct their hierarchies and beliefs around tradition and progress. After my travels I have dumped some of my idiotic left-wing thinking, the stuff that was rote thinking and just tagging along with what I was supposed to think. I'm still left-wing, but much more sensible. The woke stuff is just so much more obviously stupid now after meeting with so many Europeans and Africans. I really believe young people in North America need to do some kind of mandatory service abroad for a few months. They will be forced to consider different ways of thinking - not that the thinking abroad offers a more correct way of thinking, but that a young traveller will learn that there are opportunities to entertain and even adopt alternate ways of thinking that might offer up a better path in life. In terms of local woke ideology, where I live, I'll give you an example that perplexes me currently. I have been told that when I ask young women, women in their twenties, if they are thinking about having children or not, that I am contributing to the stigmatization of women. The reason I ask this question and others related to the upbringing of children (I'm a children's book author) is because I have discovered that these young women are being fed bull**** about why they should not have children. They reply that they don't want to contribute to the overpopulation of the world. The real reason, when talking with these women, is that the cost of living has become so incredibly high (primarily skyrocketing rent and housing costs) that they can't afford to have children. Our slow-to-move politicians, locally and nationally, don't seem to act as if they're aware of the massive damage that's being caused by not being tuned into to our new reality. But apparently, due to political correctness (wokeness?), and especially because I'm a man, I'm not allowed to discuss women's issues. I try to be fatherly and tell these young women that they actually have more options, that they can have as many children as they like. If women were to, en masse, demand a lower cost of living that might have an effect. But they need the knowledge and impetus to do so. Also, and primarily, there has never been a more important time to have children, if you believe the new statistics regarding demographics. The women I talk with are surprised that overpopulation is not a problem, that too few children is now one of the biggest issues we have to face. Anyway, I've been told (this was four days ago a front page news item locally) that I'm contributing to the stigmatization of young women. (The article was about people like me, who ask women if they're going to have children. Apparently more of us are doing this). My personal experience is that the women I talk to are very interested in talking about these things and they actually enjoy and are surprised by alternate viewpoints; many have not heard about the huge demographic shifts worldwide. They perk up when they realize they might be making decisions based on old information and from woke ideology. The wokesters seem to want to exclude men from any of these types of discussion, and doing so very publicly by assuming women are incredibly fragile and shouldn't even be discussing important issues with less knowledgeable people - not just men, but uninformed women - so suggests the young students doing the university study and survey as discussed in the article. SO! I will be a bit more sensitive in my approach to women if we end up discussing children, but I feel it's incredibly important to share information that these women might otherwise not get because reality is too disturbing to people who have self-elected themselves to shape society, in part by denying reality.

I’m with Sarah - I think the battle is largely over in terms of ideology capture. I don’t even know how you’d begin to try to beat it back aside from just creating new institutions which some are doing but that’s a long battle . Even then you are still battling an ideology that is getting pumped out daily across the country in most if not all Institutions

Found Haider's entry on Wikipedia and read: 'she and other Ex-Muslims are shunned by the left, having been called an Islamophobe. Haider has stated that this makes the position of Ex-Muslim atheists precarious because "the political right is not our friend. We don't have allies on the right due to our atheism," but at the same time she feels Ex-Muslims also have very few allies on the left'.
... AS IF BEING AN ATHEIST IN AMERICA WEREN'T ALREADY LONELY ENOUGH?
I too don't consider myself "anti-social justice", do not favour racism, live in a country which in the late 80s PRIDED itself on its multiculturalism, am atheist (with the philosophy "maybe you can't disprove there's a god, but you can sure demonstrate that the God you describe can't possibly exist"), etc. etc.. I live on the other side of the planet, consider myself "left", have an education in sciences and technology... but came to a position "against wokism" because 1) all the popular fictional franchises I loved have been destroyed in the last 20 years and worse 2) arguments proposed by Wokism are observably untrue and actively dishonest.
I mean something like the intellectuallism of Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" has been turned into stupid deliberately anti-intellectual populist cheap and tawdry miserably-written drama television, not to mention actively disrespected everything in the attitudes of the text. I went from a 1970s/80s era English "Doctor Who" culture that celebrated the idea of a hero with intellectual capabilities... to the garbage that exists now.
The release of the television show "The Rings Of Power"... well, I came to realise that regardless of whatever one thinks of its steering away from Tolkien's geographic placement of different races/cultures is absolutely not the show's problem - but instead, the show was a disaster of SANITY, let alone interpretation of the works of Tolkien.
For reasons, I never got around to reading Tolkien (I read Asimov and Herbert instead); and the release of "The Rings Of Power" finally drove me to to plunge headfirst into Tolkien's text. In "The Two Towers", published by "that English white male" in *1954*... in a scene that didn't make it into the popular movie... Théoden, Aragorn and Éomer are about to march off to war. Who's left behind in wholesale charge of Rohan? WITHOUT ONE SINGLE DISSENTING OBJECTION? Théoden's NIECE ÉOWYN who goes on to merely, oh, you know, KILL THE more-than-human WITCHKING. But nooo, if he's an old white male, he surely must be sexist under the new social regime.
Not to mention, I had an experience on this site; an idiot claimed that they were Left and I had to obviously be Right-wing because *I WOULD NOT SUPPORT THE CENSORSHIP OF A GAME BOOK*.
If it is not that Wokism has won, then I would like to hear what might possibly sustain the exhausted, beleaguered people of the rational sympathetic gregarious non-sociopathic Left. No seriously, that's not my expression of an objection. That's me asking "if you've any ideas, I'd love to hear it, please". I am so very, very, very tired. It was a pleasant change and revival of spirit to hear Sarah Haider's discussion; thank you.

In former Soviet Union, there were so many brilliant scientists and intellectuals. yet, most of them were silent or willfully ignorant about the atrocities the soviet regime was committing. Multiple PhDs or barely a highschool diploma - we are the same human beings and self survival and self well being almost always be more important than greater good.

Thank you for the conversation. I disagree with portraying women as agreeable/social or mellow. Women present a whole set of perspectives reflecting women's truth and experiences, considered less valuable or insignificant in society's evaluation system. I could understand why from human nature. When women talk about substance, the discussions tend to be more nuanced, truthful, and less dramatic and divisive, naturally not attracting more attention. For example, many British female professionals lead the discussion on women's rights and the transgender movement. However, the public is asking, "What is a Woman."
