It's not as dangerous as people think especially not like it was in the 80s or even early 2000s but it's still not safe. Alot of areas are off limits if you aren't invited, but when you live in the city you know what areas those are and can just avoid it. Shit goes down everywhere at any time tho. Any moment could be your last and people really do die every day, but it's still not like Syria or Iraq or some shit. It's got some of the best food you will find anywhere. Coney island, Arabic, Mediterranean, and even polish food. I wouldn't recommend moving there as an out of towner except for like 5 neighborhoods. There's a reason you can find houses almost the size of mansions for under 100k.
