Never was ga-ga over the '55 Chevy. They always looked like a stodgy old lady's car to me. Nothing compared to the other offerings from GM that year.
I liked the 50's Thunderbirds a lot. Especially the 1957 models. My very first model i ever built was a '57 T-bird, back in 1967! Painted it Robin Egg blue.

I had a collection of 12 55, 56, 57 Thunderbirds. The 57 had a sharper tailfin than the 55 and 56. The 55 Thunderbird was a positive ground 6v system, where 56, 57 were 12v. All 3 can have the portal top and a convertible top. The convertible top stowed away behind the driver seat and it was an option as to what top or tops you got. In 56, the "Continental Tire Kit" was an option, which gave you the external tire and the different rear bumper to accommodate it. The rarest of the baby birds was the F coded supercharged and the E coded dual quad 312ci 57's.
