Semi-serious question for you, Nik: have you ever considered doing a video like this, but with the focus being on slide guitar? Just I could see that honestly being a really interesting video, as slide guitar really does require you to rethink how you play and I could see your perspective on it being really interesting because you'd be coming to it from a VERY different direction than most people who try out slide guitar! My only disclaimer in advance if you want to do this video: read up on how to get a slide that fits your fingers BEFORE you start recording. Seriously, I learnt how to play slide guitar with a guitar slide that was way too big and it was nigh on impossible to play with it!

Probably one of the most useful genres to learn for metal guitarists. A lot of it is pentatonic, there's some jazz elements that are shared with metal, and chords are similar enough to power chords to be useful in writing metal.
As someone who's recently started learning guitar, used to play blues trumpet, and grew up listening to blues, rock, and metal, this was great in like 30 different ways. But yeah, if anything going from metal to blues would be one of the easier genre switches since so much of what metal (and rock) does is so heavily built upon and evolved from the blues.
Nick one thing I really like about your channel and your craft is that your perfect example of why you shouldn't label yourself as a musician and stick to one genre
I've been a guitarist for over 25. I play heavy metal from the late 80s to early 90s. Classical is my secondary style I play if solo. I noticed you had an easy time with the blues transition. You did a fine job. Blues is just rock from an earlier time period, so it's easier to pick up for us rock guitarists. Great work and love your content.
Hey Nik you should check out this DeathCore band called Angelmaker. They are extremely underated. If you do check them out listen to there songs Leech, Hollow Heart, or Bloodthirster.
I actually love this video! I was fan of metal first and discovered blues through early Judas Priest and Black Sabbath which follows through all of the metal of the 80s, 90s, up to now. All the time I still loved the original blues and moved back through the years discovering greats all the way to Muddy Waters and such. You can see all the influences following together especially in bands like Corrosion of Conformity (which started as a Punk band but heavily embraced the blues in the 90s). It is so cool to see someone of great metal talent discover the rich history of metal for the first time! You can see it in how quickly he picked it up because it has been there hidden in the metal all along!
Fun fact about blues: Some blues guitar players, play in lower tunings too. Mostly for acoustic guitar, but they do use Drop D, and even Drop C in some cases. They use variations on Drop D and Drop C, like DADGAD and 6-string Double Drop D (Drop D but the high string is tuned to a D too). But you won’t see them play a 7-string guitar.
As a guitarist in a blues band, who loves -core music, it's like this was made for me! lol Nice job with some of those licks man. You pick stuff up really quickly!

Not bad for a first try! The best way to approach the blues is to think about how you play the notes, rather than how many notes you can cram into a solo. Put some emotion into every note and make each note/phrase interesting. Once you get that down, then you can get into the Stevie Ray Vaughn and Gary Moore realm of fast blues playing.

I’ve been studying blues a tiny bit, which is probably why the algorithm sent me to this video. Anyways, the key seems to be to change your pentatonic for the four chord or it sounds off. The most important thing I’ve gathered is that you can superimpose the minor pentatonic and Major pentatonic. The Parallel Major scale, not the Relative one, so in A Minor, that would be A major (not C Major). I think this is where the blue notes came from, as it adds some chromatic steps.
