My wife hates anything prior to 1997 and anything after 2009. Basically she enjoys fragrances she smelled from Jr. High through college and Grad school, but no more than two sprays, one if it’s a projector. So I toss my daily fragrance in my bag and spray on when I get to work. I’m first in and normally two hours before anyone else so if it’s a screamer it has time to calm down.
Nothing quite like having the love of your life hate the way you smell. True story, I was once getting to know someone and they were like "You know, I just don't like fragrances" and I ended it before it went any further. It just wasn't going to work out.
In my experience, women tend to respond better to clean/fresh fragrances. Anything that leans towards the gourmand end of things gets lukewarm reactions.
Thats bc the sweet and gourmand tends to lean more femenine even if its marketed as a men's cologne, women prefer to smell gourmand on her friends not in a man, so its all up to you and your choices.
Your wife HATES anything Vanilla and super sweet. Here is what you have to do. STOP BUYING THEM.... By the end of the day, you have hundreds of bottles, wear what you both love. My wife hates oud, heavy leather, and super boozie stuff. I jjust do not buy them or wear them.
My wife dislikes the following and her reactions were not subtle at all Bleu de Chanel EDP + Parfum Cedrat Boise Bvlgari Man In Black BdC - She told me I smell like her grandfather Cedrat Boise - she said was way to strong ( I was wearing 2 sprays) MiB - You stink, never wear that again
@gerardgeorge LOL, yea it hurt because I love all those. She caught me wearing LV Imagination the other day and she gave me a huge compliment so they aren't all losses
Of the fifty full bottl frags I have and the 20 travel sizes, my wife doesn't like about 10. A few examples: Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme, Jubilation XXV, Triumph Elixir, DHP and DHI.
My wife, absolutely hates Patek Maison Vert, Al Haramain amber our Gold edition, Mancera Jardin exclusif. Though similar I find these very different from each other but she gets upset everytime I wear, claiming “ a burning, scratchy scent”. Its a shame because I truly enjoying wearing each of these!
Hey Gerard! I couldn't help but notice at the 6:18 mark of the video Spicebomb Extreme is incorrectly marked at the bottom of the video as A*Men Pure Havane. Thought you'd like to know. Great video otherwise!
I get both ends of the spectrum. She hates Reflection Man and Paris Ellis 360 Red. She says RM smells like a dryier sheet that fills the house. Got married in Spicebomb Extreme, so good thing she likes that.
I got a notification that FragranceX had Just Rock back in stock I only got 1 and they were only 1.6 oz but this was the best Zadig and Voltaire fragrance ever same vanilla that’s in For Him but woods instead of incense which is my preference.

The only one I can wear is Polo black. The only thing she says is no after she smells them. No description as to what it is she doesn’t like. Oh man, I could make a whole series of my fragrances my wife doesn't like 😅. Musk is my wife's most hated note. Try finding womens frags without musk lol
Vanilla/Tonka in most of those dark scents, after the opening and all the good stuff is gone, often turns into baby powder, esp if you spray on clothes, nauseating. Also you have to consider that those dense dark scents only work when its outdoors in cool weather only.
My wife hates any fragrance that isn’t Aventus or even worse Sauvage. I have a large collection and like to sample new scents weekly. I love Plum Japonais. I love BR540. I love old school barber shop scents. I’m banned from wearing them in her company 🥴. I should maybe get a new hobby. Or a new wife 😉. Great content mate.
Out of the multitude of fragrances I have, Paris Hilton for men, the one in the blue lined bottle, is the fragrance every woman in my life absolutely loves. Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin (vintage) is another fav. It seems the tobacco noted frags can be a hit and miss with many people in my life as well. Loving the black Sox hat, Gerard! Best to you and yours, always.
Your woman doesn’t want you to smell like a woman. Who’d have thought that? Most of these unisex type fragrances that lean sweet are not well received by my girlfriend.
My girlfriend hates PDM carlisle, Layton, pegasus exclusif, harod, and every other PDM plus jean paul ultra male, lattafa khamrah qahwa, and kilian angels share. The only ones she doesn’t mind are cheap summer scents such as missoni wave and dolce and gabbana light blue. She says they are all sweet and gross 🙄
Hey Gerard. Dump her immediately. LOL. I have all except for the Spicebomb. My wife has no problem with any of them. I really can't think of one she really hates. Gucci Guilty Absolute might be the closest to a no. If you want to try a different type of Vanilla scent, try Profumo di Firenze XXV Marzo. It is more of a creamy, spicy ,not too in your face take on vanilla. I almost always get asked what I am wearing. It is a good work scent too. Thanks for the video.😮

Ya know, I like and own a couple of these, but I am kinda with the wife with the general preferences, ie being averse to some food flavors like vanilla and cinnamon. I'm warming up to them, though! I've even worn my MB Club Black to work even, straight up smelling like a cookie and being a little self conscious about it lol.
It’s all subjective, from one individual to another. Like anything that teases the senses. I myself am not the biggest fan of sweet vanilla notes, unless it’s blended right and not overpowering. They tend to be more feminine-leaning the stronger they are. Ladies seem to react better to fresh/clean aromatic scents on men, and this has been my experience too. If you’re going in the spicier or much sweeter direction, opinions are more divided I’ve found. Personally, when it comes to darker fragrances, I prefer spicy over something too sweet. Notes like cardamom, nutmeg, various peppers, etc, more than cinnamon and vanilla. And if done right, tobacco and other boozy notes. Have also been recently really enjoying leather/suede notes too, but once again, as long as they’re not overpowering.
Tobacco and Tonka is probably my favorite smelling cologne but I agree. Women don't like it. Get told I smell like baby powder. Seems most women around me like fresh, clean, citrus. Got extreme compliments from vintage green BR and Belcam Geau ($8 walmart clone of acqua di gio)

The trick is to first identify the aversion drivers and let go of them to prevent ongoing reinforcement. From there, many things are possible. 😉
Ah Zefiro, I love it too. It reminds me a an elegant old church, with the incense and polished wood. Amazing. But no one likes everything and it'd be a boring world if they did.

I’ve been collecting fragrances for 44 years and it’s been my experience that most women do not like dense sweet winter fragrances. And more often than not they prefer the Prada like brisk and soapy, well put together vibe with a touch of sweet…that seems to be the winning formula.
