Before I had kids, I had spoken in front of parents, and they would get angry and say "wait until you have children" like it was the worst thing that ever happened to them. Then I had kids. One who remembered threatening me with children for saying something they didn't like asked me after, "not like you expected, huh?' Actually, it was what I expected. And my advice after having kids would have been the same as before. Some people think kids change you. Others were realists and knew what to expect.

Please be careful when reading her books. I bought them when I was pregnant because the parenting world is a scary place, but it turns out that an economist isn't the best person to interpret medical and psychological research. There are a lot of mistakes and erroneous weighting of evidence on her part, and one should not take what she says or writes as gospel (some of it has also been debunked, like the safe amount of alcohol to consume during pregnancy). Just please, don't fall for it like I did.
Could you give examples of where she interpreted data wrongly? I appreciated having both her books bc she objectively sifted through a bunch of research (and noted which ones were more reliable than others), and made it digestible for us. But of course going to the sources themselves provides the closest look
Given that Emily herself does not take her own data interpretations as gospel truth (she caveats a lot of what she says and is clear when a concept is being simplified for clarity or she straight up says that nothing is certain, but XYZ is what the data appears to indicate), I think maybe your warning is fair, but doesn’t reflect on Emily as a resource. Emily’s approach to parenting and helping people understand what is proven to be critical and what is less causal is extremely informative. And frankly quite groundbreaking. So I look forward to seeing how her findings change over time!

Her premise is so...ignorant. Parenting is not about "what each one prefers to do". There is objective science on what babies need. Otherwise, some people might prefer drinking and smoking while breastfeeding, or others might prefer beating their kid to teach it to behave. They did in fact. It was very interesting how he approached it, and his guest. But I do have to say, talking about parenting is not a bad thing. More than half of us are or where parents, you have parents, and are part of the equation. I think we all want to be better parents, or have better parents. Never take a single source as gospel including the actual gospel. This also applies to your preacher, religion, etc.
