Simply amazing. A manual process that brings the instrument to life. Incredible people, like the tuner, who have been doing this magnificent job for 49 years. Thanks Liam for the opportunity. Thank you Hohner for your dedication.
Yeah, the employees who work so hard... I certainly couldn't sit in one of those booths all day! I did a performance for the staff, playing the harps on the factory floor where they had been produced. It was an amazing experience!
@@Learntheharmonica so nice of you i wish i could go and learn how to tune them i can already make one from scratch and repair old oen but tuning is a bit sketchy as you can allways remove brss from the reeds valves but never add any so you better get it right the 1st try
What an amazing experience. Thank you Liam for this insight into one of the greats. And that tuner working there for 49 years! Wow. You truly have to love what you do to be there so long. Thanks for the video.
Nice video. Reminds me when I worked in German factories during the 1970's. This one looks clean and very well managed. A credit to Hohner and its employees, gives me faith in their products.
I'm sat watching in my car with my Marine Band Deluxe in my hand. It's amazing to think how much manual work has gone into it. Coming to watch you tonight Liam, in Didsbury. See you later
Incredible! I always wanted to visit a harmonica factory like Hohner or any of the other famous factories. Thanks to this great video I just did visit the Hohner factory! Thanks a lot. What a dedication indeed of the workers who do so much by hand and ear. I'll never accept comments on the price of a harmonica :-)
Very information. Thank you for making such an excellent video. Especially the colour coded and positioned text. And thank you to all those people at the Hohner factory. Such excellent instruments! Carry a C 1896 Marine Band with me all the time and play it every day. Love the feel and sound.
Absolutely brilliant Thanks for putting it together for us it looks amazing. I’m an only Hohner man and am passionate about the instrument so good to see. Are mere mortals allowed in or just harmonica gods
Great video tour. I'm amazed there is so much real hands on people in construction. I'm surprised they don't cost twice as much with all that real people skill applied on every harp. ✔️
Thank you for this wonderful video ! I have a lot of Hohner harmonicas and understand now why they cost so much. After your vist you shared with us I must say that Hohner harmonicas are not expensive. They are worth each cent.
Absolutely amazing. I've enjoyed every minute... It's like getting glimpse into dream world. Now i know who to thank each time i buy one, thanks Liam 👏👍
Thanks for this Liam. If you do nothing else in life, you’ve achieved great things with this vid. So many harps with so few, happy workers. I still love my original MB but tend towards Special 20’s. Nobody ever mentions the big difference between MB’s and other harps, front to back they are quite a bit narrower.
No no. THANK YOU!@@Learntheharmonica that aside, the gentleman I sent the harmonic's to in Syria, has now made it to Saudi Arabia. I haven't heard from him in awhile & am not sure of his fate.
I have only played Hohner harmonicas. I played my father’s Marine Band since I was 6. It was given to me when I was 8 because I showed great interest. I have a Tremalo and a Chromatic harmonica but I love the diatonic the best. After over 50 years my first Marine Band gave up. I bought a Special 20 and I love it but prefer the tone of the Marine Band. The new MB was harder to bend but found out it needed to be broke in. My sons weren’t interested but my grandsons want to learn. They are both getting harmonicas this Christmas.
Just an amazing video and couldn’t belt how much manual work goes into making the instrument , really have me interested again , not played since my youth and that’s over 60 years ago , which harmonica should I buy first ? Please , Graham L , thanks
The gentleman who showed you around the factory, do you know if he ever attended school in Rhode Island in the US? I am a harp player who, at a gig one night, met a Hohner. A nice enough man about the right age to be him. I am also a lifelong machinist who would have loved working in this factory with such skilled and experienced workers.
COOL 😎😎😎😎. I PLAY Horner. My Preferred Brand. Won't mention the other names 😂😂😂😂 One of the Benefits is. Everyone there plays. Harmonica. I'm Sure. Even the C.E.O. I Bet 😂😂😂😂😂😂
German made Hohner harmonicas have always been way better tuned than any other brand I'm aware of which is noticeable particularly with diatonic instruments that don't use equal temperament. You don't have well tuned Japanese harmonicas outside of ET, and in fact my Seydels also don't come close to my Hohners when it comes to some sort of compromise of just intonation. So Hohner must have some very skilled tuners doing their job.
23:19 Did that harmonica get sanitised after he played it? Sure human germs and viruses take a week to die or less, but I'd rather play my harmonica untouched by another's mouth. I also sanitise my hamonica before playing it, but I'm asking really more out of curiosity and minor concern.
what about the factorys of hohner in china? another video? do not be naive thinking 30.000.000 harps p year come from happygolucky little trossingen. just advertisement for the brand.. haha

Fascinating to watch! Every Hohner is still hand crafted.
What are all those machines for, then?
@@jrb4935 He means the harmonicas are assembled manually, machines make the parts. Seems ok to me.
@@jrb4935at least they were tuned manually. Are you expecting that they are going to forge the cover by hammer and anvil😂

Crazy! I worked there occasionally during the semester break - best job ever!
That was amazing and informative video, I didn't realise there were more hands on steps in making my harp than making my Telecaster.
Fascinating to learn how the Hohner harmonicas are so carefully built. I will cherish mine even more
So nice they let us take a look in that amazing factory. Hohner is a quality company with great products. The harmonicas are 'supertoll'!
I agree! I had such a good time going round the factory!
I will never complain about the purchase price of HOHNER ever again. Refreshing to know how much humans are a key to their success.
Agreed! I was so happy to get a tour... so much hard work goes into every single Hohner instrument.
Thanks for posting this. I’ve been waiting for a in-depth factory tour from Hohner. Hopefully this stays up and doesn’t disappear
No worries, I have no plans to delete it!
This is the best video on UA-cam about the Hohner factory.Thank you for your work
Glad you liked it!

the effort that goes into making these... wow... Just picked up a Special 20 and i now appreciate the effort that goes ot making these!
Astonishing. It takes so much handwork to produce one harmonica. It's a very informative video. Thanks.
Nice to see and hear your guide playing one of his harmonicas.
Yeah, he surprised me with that!
Lovely tour, I thought they were mass produced on a machine, wonderful

Thank you so much Liam for this interesting video!
This was a very informative video regarding the manufacture of harmonicas. Thanks for making and placing it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
very instructive tour in the Hohner production cycle !
I'm not entirely sure, but I get the impression that Gerhard and his colleagues are passionate Hohners😁 🖒
Greetings from Bavaria to Swabia
Nice filming. Great harmonicas. I too am planning to see the hohner museum in Trossingen. Thanks mate.

I'd love to see how they build their hinged bass harp from start to finish.
I recently got one of those for a recording job, they're so cool. It's weird playing only blow notes though.
I bought a Hohner Echo Harp C/G 96 in 1978, and still play it. It is still in its original box as well.
That was very interesting! Thanks for the tour

This was pretty cool to watch! I’m not touching a Marine Band 1896 with a yardstick but I’m curious to try out a Marine Band Deluxe or a Crossover.
Very cool and interesting video! I'm very new to Harmonicas and both of the ones I have and learning to play are Hohners. 😎✌️

How can I do a factory tour on my visit to Germany ?

If only Honer would produce paddy-richter tuned harmonicas
What city in Germany is Trossingen closest to?
Stuttgart is about an hour away.
How to order harmonica instrument sir from philippines
ooo might be a question for Hohner. You can check out their website at: www.hohner.de/
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🔊🔊🔊🔊👍👍👌
How many times can you say Wow….
Many!
But if they produce 2-3 million a year, there is no way they hand tune them all. Or, am I wrong? 6,000 a day, 365 days a year. Hmmm.
Interesting. But why would they still use nails?! 😲

Sadly mine was not made in Germany. Much to my dismay. Not quite what I expected from Hohner.
