I plan in a Malden because of you! Please don’t give it up. I count on your genuine and informative ( and enabling ) videos. I just love how real you are. Thanks!
I know this is an old ish, video but I am just starting out with a Hobonichi weeks. I am definitely a frixion pen person so this has been super useful and there is some good inspiration here for me. Thank you!
All great points! I love my Weeks so much for planning. My planning style has evolved so much over this year. I abandoned pretty planning for messy planning and I dig it!
Thank you!! I’m in the same boat as you though, there are some pens and papers that make my handwriting look like garbage and I’m like why is this even a thing??😩
I would still be using the Sarasa Dry pens if I didn’t need the waterproof factor, I loved them so much for Tomoe River paper! But I started journaling to the kiddos and I need to make sure they’re protected from my coffee spills (it happened before😆). I actually need to finish watching your pen test video. Back when I started using a Weeks you were the only person I could find that wanted to use gel on TRP so I feel like we’re kindred spirits!
I'm so surprised, I remember all your filofax pretty original note books. I leave for a year or so and wow I find you are now using weeks. I love weeks all in one place, no more lose pages. Welcome to the hobo side.
Just got my Hobonichi Weeks. I've used both other sizes of Hobonichis, but really love the weeks. It just makes the most sense for me. I still have to have a lesson plan book at school, but this will work for my personal life. Love your video!
I've thought about using the Weeks for years now. All of your reasons are things that I've thought about. I planner jump like nobody's business, and I just want to find ONE planner that works for me. Thanks for sharing!
Just purchased my first Hobonichi weeks mega today. Prior to yesterday I had no clue such brand exists, but I've been a fan of simpler planners recently and I think Hobonichi does it so well. I'm so excited 💕 Thank you for this informative video!
I love this! Your honesty is refreshing. The pre-decorated planners ALL drive me bananas... There is always an "off" color or design I don't like. I think that is why I never stuck with a planner until I found a plain monthly calendar from MochiThings... Then I fell down the Hobonichi rabbit hole. Now all I worry about is which size Hobo to use for the next year. I am moving from A6 to A5 to improve my One Book game... Like the One Ring, my quest is for the One Book to rule all my planning and documentation needs. ☺☺☺
I am new to Hobonichi. 2019 will be my first year. I have the Weeks and A6 English. I wanted the Weeks Mega Denim, but they are sold out most places. I love yours. I’m not sure how I’ll use them both. I have tried basically every planner system. I’m frustrated at myself to keep spending money on systems and they not work for me. I’m starting to think it’s just me. I know I need to sell some previous supplies because I know I won’t go back to them. I have your selling tips video on a playlist to watch soon. You addressed some of my concerns in this video, cream paper and big handwriting. I’m hoping I can get passed those obstacles too. Keep the videos coming. I’ve watched you switch systems too for a long time. I’m hopeful this will work for me too. Thank you!
I enjoyed your talk! I'm retired now but when I worked, I had a planner similar to yours and it worked really well. Now, I like the creativity in my bullet journal, allowing me to set up the pages exactly how I want them. (I also have the time). Also, this is my first journal. I am experimenting and researching to find out what works the best. I do like the size of yours and might look at doing a journal that size later.
The Hobonichi weeks is a perfect planner except for two things: The squares are just a bit too small for my taste (definitely have to get used to the size) and I wish the months started on Sunday instead of Monday! Other than that, I love it!
"I feel like it's an extension of my brain." - Truth! Every planner person can totally relate! The Hobo Weeks is something I keep wanting to try but never have yet, however your video really shows just how customised it can be! TFS! :D
I am in a Hobonichi Weeks this year and it’s become my fave planner too. It’s everything I’ve wanted and I’m so glad I’ve made it work for me. I’ve had to get used to the paper too. Looking forward to seeing how you use yours in 2019!
Even if the frixion pen disappears, sticking it in the freezer will bring it back but it will also bring back any marks erased and written over. I love frixion pens but am a bit hesitant sine I live in south Texas. PS...I love my Weeks! So portable and everything is on one place!
I liked the weeks , the paper, the size. But I couldn’t get used the week starting on Monday,,mine and my husbands’s work week starts on a Sunday. So for over 30 years our week starts Sunday. I kept putting the wrong times on Sunday. I wish they had the option to chose the start week.
The great debate. I’m sooo considering this for the new year but i already have so many planner and I need to see it n touch it... maybe I’ll start in spring...
Great video! I’m still on the fence about whether to buy a new one for next year. I’m pushing myself through return to my 218 to end the year and let that be my guide. Thanks for the detailed info!
You convinced me to give it a go! Just purchased strawberry latte for 2019 😩 I've been neglecting my b6 TN.. too many inserts, too big, too annoying worrying about decorating and kits. Can't wait to give this a go and use minimal amounts of stickers!
Ok! You pulled out your Bible and I hit subscribe! Seriously Sam!!! Thank you for being real. I love your videos! 2019 will be my First time with 2 hobo weeks. I am scared! But your videos are helping me! Thank you
Finally someone else who hates the Happy Planner aesthetic too! lol. I appreciate it from a design standpoint but it's just... not my thing. Reminds me of a college girl's Pinterest board. I'm using an Erin Condren right now and have been considering a jump to Hobonichi.
The one major thing that causes me to want to avoid Hobonichi in general is the very small grid! I, like you, have large handwriting and I like to write that way... I think my handwriting is prettier that way... the small boxes just throw me off 😭 but I am drawn to the paper & the functionality! Everything I need/want is in these planners but I need to find a way to make my handwriting work with it. Hopefully the Mega and I will become a great team next year 🤞🏼 you should do a flip through of your hobos! I love seeing all the filled up pages 😍
I naturally write small but I’ve known plenty of people who just ignore the grid size and write taking 2grids wide as writing space (not sure if I explained that well since I’m not a native English speaker).
I’m doing research since I moved from rings to EC to this year an A5 Cousin Avec but as an everyday carry, hell no. It’s huge because I watercolor junk journal on the days pages. I am looking to get the Hobo weeks next year for my planner (functional and small to carry). I journal but will get a Hobo grid to just journal when I want, not dates no problem.
Hi. How did you adjust from an EC to a Hobonichi weeks which is really small? I am also using a 6.5x8 for more than 10 years now but planning to switch to a small one bec of my shoulder bag weight. So I was wondering about the space. Can I really do this? Getting inspiration... I hope you can share how you switched and how you felt...
I had planned in smaller sizes before, like personal rings, so I knew I’d be fine. Generally the EC was a bit harder for me to use up the space in the pages anyway. The Weeks in particular holds a lot for the small pages!
Hi Sam! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this planner. I watched some of your other videos and they sparked an interest. You had commented that you used a hobonichi for journaling and I think I will be trying one for that as well. I think an a5 would be too large so I'm leaning towards the a6 or weeks. I use a personal planner to track work and personal activities, but they aren't so important that I'm concerned about keeping the inserts. This is why I like the idea of using the hobonichi for structured journaling and recording important dates and events, because in my life they're few and far between lol. I look forward to seeing updates in your 2019 planner. Also, I noticed on your to do list a task to mail out maldens. Does that mean you sold your green malden??!!?!
Would love to know your thoughts on the hobonichi cousin. I’m new to this brand of planners and I really want to find planner peace. I’m never happy with my planner year after year. It’s so frustrating!!!!
@@samplans hmm is it heavy? I need something that I can carry with me everywhere and the erin condren is just so bulky!!!! I am trying to decide between the cousin and the weeks...
@@samplans Hi there, I would like to start a journal for my daughter journaling each day of her first year with a photo on each page. Which journal do you recommend for this? Thanks so much xoxo
Loved the video. Like you, I have used a LOT of different planners and planning systems. Most recent was an A5 Filofax at home and a pocket Filofax in my handbag. Like you, my preference would be having just one planner and having everything in one place. I bought a Weeks and then changed my mind and decided a wanted the Mega Weeks just to have the option of the additional pages. I am now using the first weeks for the remainder of the year to hopefully experiment with the weekly pages as to what works and what does not so that I will be set to go in 2019. Just a quick question ... do you also do a blog as well as the videos?
Thank you for your time and information. I was wondering what color is your weeks TN? I’m setting up my weeks for 2019 excited first time using I did buy cover on cover but I need a leather cover to protect it in my bag. Thank you
Another nicely done video. I relate to so many comments you make on planning. Being new to the Japanese planners, I have learned to love the hobo weeks this year, starting in April. I ordered a Jibun Techo for 2019 because of its detailed vertical layout, but couldn't get over my attachment to the Weeks. So, I have a new one for 2019. I certainly don't need both planners. Do you use a template to record your weather? I got a template, but the symbols are super tiny!
I plan in a Malden because of you! Please don’t give it up. I count on your genuine and informative ( and enabling ) videos. I just love how real you are. Thanks!
I am on my first hobonichi weeks mega using this style for my planning. I think I am going to like it because I don’t feel forced to decorate.
