- Numerous anti-Israel protesters who occupied a building at Columbia University in April will not be charged.
On Thursday, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced he would drop charges against 31 students and staff members.
The 31 students and staff members attended or were employed by Columbia University, Barnard or Union Theological Seminary, according to NBC News.
The 46 protesters were arrested on April 30, hours after they barricaded themselves in the Hamilton Hall building located at the university.
The students and staff members were charged with trespassing in the third degree for occupying the academic building.
According to Reuters, prosecutor for the Manhattan DA Stephen Millan said there was insufficient evidence against the occupiers.
Millan said there was no evidence of the defendants damaging property or injuring anyone as they wore masks and covered cameras.

This DA needs to be disbarred. He doesn’t care about the city. I hope the janitors sue them and files charges again the DA for allowing these criminals to get out without a punishment for breaking an entry, holding janitors hostage, and destroying private property. I don’t understand our nypd officers make good solid arrests as they entered the building . Our officers were assaulted and protesters were resisting arrest as well as destruction of property to barricade themselves. The masks had to removed somewhere throughout the arrest procedure so these people were able to be identified. Boy I sincerely feel bad for our NYPD officers who have no backing from their jurisdiction prosecuters .what a message to send to all criminals. God bless our officers. St Micheal the archangel defend them in battle and against evil. Someone in our judicial system needs to intervene. Our officers morale and dedication is needed now more than ever. How can this be allowed to happen . These were good arrests. Please lord Jesus protect all our NYPD officers.
