For every other player who doesn't play exclusively E8 with self-imposed rules, Lunar items are fun. Any proposed changes to them that cater specifically to the highest level of people who play the game would almost certainly make the game less fun unless the proposed nerfs are either an optional setting or Eclipse modifier.

It sounds like you're not full looting stages, if you're sticking to some kinda "time per stage" constraint forget it and go for items. Get faster at full looting stages because you're going to get outscaled by enemies with that few items
best rule of thumb for eclipse is 1 item per minute, no matter which stage you are at. of course synergy > quality > quantity but this'll allow you to farm more if you need to and gives you a guideline to say when not to farm anymore. once you farm more you'll be able to remember the chest locations and farm quicker.
The only real problem with lunars is how they affect Eclipse as a game mode. Eclipse is supposed to be the ultimate challenge and a true test of skill, but that’s not the case when you can just get 5 free items almost every stage. I do think the game needs better balance as a whole, but especially eclipse.
I feel like aurelionite getting killed by a void death explosion should remove one of the aurelionite items from your inventory cause its such a specific interaction but it would be cool in a lore way
BEST WAY TO SELF-BALANCE LUNAR ITEMS: 5 pushups per coin spent (increase/decrease depending on fitness level) Pushups are done in bazar between time, so there is no risk of death and the timer does not progress. Can swap to pullups (3 per) , squats (10 per) or something else if you want to rotate days. 1 lunar item is at least 15 pushups (Item + shrine) and for most people that should be enough to get you a little bit tired, if it doesn't set the price higher. Now even if you are stronger, you will be playing a little worse from physical exhaustion. Over the run, if you are frequently purchasing lunar shrines, picking stages, and buying items you should be really worn out making you play at a sizable disadvantage. Spending 10 coins in one run will be 50 pushups, if you end up loosing, looping, or playing multiple runs this can get far higher. You could end up doing a ridiculous amount of pushups over the course of playing. Even if the balancing isn't perfect and your runs are stronger, at least you got in some extra exercise and I believe doing this has resulted in noticeable physical improvements for myself.

Like it should be designed as a Set up ability, like Charge up a projectile's distance that deals 375% damage per second to nearby enemies, Exploding after 3 seconds dealing 500% Damage plus 70% per stack of ruin and root enemies for 2 seconds. Recharges after 5 seconds. This lower damage encourages you to actually make use of your other abilities or Heretic's abilities for follow up instead of just using it. The ruin part is a bonus if you gain Heretic's Essence. Also again Heretic should be her own survivor you can unlock since it is very annoying to have to consistinley obtain lunar coins to just get a chance to play as just her, so after you find the secret survivor you can play as her.

For Heretic, not only should she be an achievement( "A Corpse made to Serve again" Gained after obtaining all heretic items in a single run) to unlock her as a character(for extra freedom, reward so you don't have to do the lunar shit anymore to play just as her), aswell she should have that Hoopo feather feture but not put on her left character showing you how many jumps she's adding in.(extra 2) This way you can actually know what Heretic does most importantly and how Hoopo feathers can be abused, most of the time if can't count it because the game has you focus on alot leads to you miusing your pointential, that doesn't feel like your fault as how are you supposed to keep track of something thats supposed to benefit you? like the extra jump should be shown so you don't easily forget you have it.
As for the case that Lunars are broken: I had a run where i broke 7 watches i printed. I thought it was surely a dead run but i got a shaped glass from a pod and proceeded to still win with ridiculous damage even after losing all the items i scrapped for broken watches. I use lunars only when the runs are looking quite dead cause of that
ive only played the game for maybe 10 hours and my opinion of lunars is that theyre there. sometimes theyre funny and other times i barely notice them.
A total lunar economy rebalance is definitely in order. The ephemeral coins mod does a good job at it with some config changes for drop chances and such. One reroll, much more scarce coins, and generally choice matter much much more rather than ooga booga reroll funny slab
im not good enough yet to play on eclipse 1 yet even need to get good at moonsoon first so idk if it has to do with something that eclipse stuff adds in
also couldnt you enter the thing under stage 5 and put in the artifact of command when you looped to confirm some squid polyps and maybe the drink machine but ig that would be pretty boring since just like 5 command items can make your build go from meh to pretty solid
@@kreokrok no artifact portal on eclipse ever, so no command. As for the damage, it's bc perma damage is taken for hits above 2.5 % according to the wiki, and heretic has such high health that the threshold is a lot higher than the damage being taken

I think that one of the eclipse modifiers should remove newt portals, it essentially removes lunar items and also adds a lot of difficulty because you cant just get 2 free cauldrons every stage and then pick what stage 4 you get. Dont think that lunars should be changed to much themselves though. There are a lot of people who aren't here to grind eclipse and play all of their runs with artifact of command on drizze with swarms and sacrifice, and thats totally valid. Not personally something that I enjoy as much as the base game, atleast not very often, maybe in small doses now and again to mess around {would prob still play on atleast monsoon tho). I dont really like using lunars that much anyway. The only 2 that even seem decent to me are gesture and glass, buth of which are pretty op given that their downsides are irrelevant, but theres no need to force others not to use them.

They could add a modifier for eclipse that you can only get them from buds and they cost more or something. That way it's not as controllable

Run in a team with a bungus engi, the turrets can be used to heal the polyp and the shield barrier can help protect it
and you can place your turrets inside eachother so only the squids do damage. Add remote caffenator and you've got my favorite build in the game.
