The best thing to do is buy the largest tank you can afford and have the room for and that way you can buy all of your propane in the summer when it's the cheapest.
They want to install smaller so you have to fill more. Hazmat and transport charge on every delivery. I know I worked for a major propane company in ohio. I bought a 1000 gallon tank. Fill it once every 2 years when the price is low
Depends. When power goes out what is the typical length in time you can expect it to be out? For me, it's rare to be without power for more than 24 hours. So a 420 shown in the beginning is all I need.
On residential propane tanks (the 250 gallon, 500 gallon sizes) is there a plate or id tag that tells you what the size is? The tank on the property I rent is old and has been painted over a number of times. I'm guessing by the meter amount that it is probably a 500 gallon, but I would like to see if I can find a tag, plate or some official way to knowthe size.
I would only want to use propane on my stove, I dislike electric cooktops. A standard propane tank for the Bbq has a 10 year life. I wonder if the larger tanks are the same? You would need to add the replacement costs of the tank to your heating to compare.
I live in a regular neighborhood its not a closed community , do I need to get some type of permit to have a propane tank installed in my back yard above ground or underground ?
Under 125 gallon capacity just needs to be 5ft from a door or window and 10ft from a source of ignition. So a 420lb tank which has a capacity of 120 gallons can be next to a house.
@@debraduhon958 You are correct. After doing some research I discovered that to be the case. When I purchase my dual fuel portable generator for emergency backup power, I'm going to be purchasing a 420 pound tank to fuel it.

How much does a 1,000 tank cost
@@inezmickel1274 about $3k
I have a 1000 gallon. Heat, hot water, range, fireplace, grill and future generator.
Do you get a whole year out of your tank?
Thanks for this, I am looking to diversify from all electric, this was informative.
What size would I need for a whole house emergency generator?

You guys sell propane and propane accessories?
I just installed a line for cooktop/stove only. I added 2 100# tanks (54 gal). Guessing I’ll get at least a year from this?
What size do you recommend to run a generac 24kw stand by generator?
How do I get a gas company to transfer gas from one underground 1000 gallon tank to another one 450' away ?

I just added two 100# tanks for cooking only.
Why would he determine size, if I come in as a customer and want a 500 gallon tank and you tell me the 325 is better, why is that ,
Its Hank Hill ;)

1:43 - I thought that propane tanks had to be at least 10 feet from a building.

We'll probably be getting 2 420s for our house for our generator and stove.
