- A quick trip to Upton Village, on The Wirral to see how this old photograph compares to today.
Labelled as Upton by Birkenhead, not Upton by Chester.

Another interesting video, thanks 👍
Love it mate
That last shot on the wall... I remember in mid 80s my mum saying there used to be some display of Mary or something. It got smashed up by vandals. Mad they haven't filled the hole in yet 40 years later .
Great work again Mr Wirral. Everyone, listen to what this man has to say 😊! Unchanged from your photos, but the density of housing in and around Upton has increased dramatically, replacing the fields and meadows etc. - I’m guessing the population reflects this. Thank you again.
Would be interested to know more about the Champion Spark plug factory.
In the second photo, what is now Molineux Close was a street full of prefabricated houses built after WW2. As I remember, this street ran all the way through to Arrowe Park Road. The pre-fabs were demolished in the mid-60s to build more modern houses. If you come from the traffic lights towards Greasby, on the right there was the girls convent school before Saughall Massie Lane, and on the left there were two shops, which were abandoned by the mid-60s, and then, where the undertakers is now, was a very old and creepy graveyard, which must have been full by the mid 19th century because there were no tombstones dated after about 1850. I believe those steps were more-or-less as they are now. The second photo is how it looked when I was a kid. At the bottom of the hill, on the right, is Upton Cricket Club.
Thanks for watching. Good bit of info . thanks
