The French team of the 1970s and 80s were special. Brilliant running rugby from talented mesmerising backs and absolute thuggery from the forwards. That French team had some massive games against the NZ All Blacks and the violence on the pitch matched the brilliant rugby.

Cholley was a genuine hard man. The French Packs of the 1970s were hugely intimidating. Steve Finucane, Aussie Hard Man from the 70s had a chapter in his autobiography called a CHOLLEY GOOD TIME
Great watching, as ever. Cheers. Hope you'll do a piece on 6ft 8 policeman and England legend Wade Dooley, who England forward Martin Bayfield described as "the most naturally violent man the game of rugby has ever seen".
@@mattlegg1976Wade Dooley by all accounts asked a referee not to send off a French forward who had kicked him in the head. He wanted to exact his own retribution. He broke the jaw of Welsh forward Phil Davies with one punch. Dooley was feared. Known as the Blackpool Tower.

Great concept Matt, those music videos have really cheered me up in our rather gloomy flat in Copenhagen this morning! I’m South African so I’m very excited to see which SA rugby players you’re going to profile in your upcoming videos. An obvious choice right now would be Eben Elzebeth just for his sheer size but of course there are “smaller” Springboks like Pieter Steph du Toit and the late James Small - both known for their physicality and fearlessness, skill and both tough as nails. That’s a difficult list to compile of course because pretty much all the Springbok players through the decades have been tough as nails on field but mostly all very sweet lads off the field. Great video...yes these were 3 very hard players particularly Mr Cholley from the amateur game of Rugby Union. The other code, Rugby League ( professional ) also had it's quota of hard men particularly Cumbrian Frank Foster and Cockney Cliff Watson. Andy MacDonald. Springbok. Colin was wary of him, and said as much. That, coming from a proper old-school All Blacks 'enforcer' is testimony enough. R.I.P Sir Colin Meads. GBNF.
I love your content Matt, but any list of this kind would not be complete without South Africans and Kiwis. Lomu was the most feared player of his generation - both bigger and faster than anyone you've featured here - but he never scored a try against the South Africans because no one - and I mean no one - shows more heart on the field than they do. This is why they've won four World Cups while the French have choked in three finals. The great England side of the early 2000s also had some really tough men in it.
Haha, I spoke to soon. Also, didn't realise the last guy was 6'8, which makes him almost as tall as Eben Eztebeth (South African prop who comes from a well known family in Cape Town - well known for being able to take care of themselves). You can watch some hilarious videos of Eztebeth ragdolling 17-stone men like they were kids. Apparently he can do incline dumbell presses of 175lb in each hand without breaking a sweat. He can run flat out for eighty minutes. @@mattlegg1976

Another great presentation, thank you Matt. This may be of interest to you it's about a Welsh karate man who's name is Howard Collins. He went to Japan and trained in a style called Kyokushinkai a type of karate that advocates a lot of heavy contact and a type of competition called knockdown the aim of which is to knock your opponent down or knock him out. There's lots more I can write about Howard Collins but I would be writing for a long time. I enjoy your presentations so much Matt, thanks again.👍

Let me tell you, as a 16yo lad you don't want Gordon Brown chapping your door after midnight to get his daughter & pals from a party they shouldn't have been at. 😇
Don't know much about Rugby, but always love learning about sports. These guys remind me of the Hockey enforcers from the 80's, but I understand these men did more than protect the shooter and fight on ice.

Long story short, II want to say Thank You for uploading this video. Very informative and interesting, even for me. Me like. :)
Ah great. Thank you very much 🥊👊
Great video and information as always Matt. Have you read up on Bobby Windsor? The iron Duke absolute Welsh legend 🙌
Yep, Bobby and Graham were a real handful.
One third of the Pontypool Front Row
That French dude 😂😂😂 love it! Really good content Matt cheers mate 🙏
Andy MacDonald. Springbok. Colin was wary of him, and said as much. That, coming from a proper old-school All Blacks 'enforcer' is testimony enough. R.I.P Sir Colin Meads. GBNF.
Really cool video man, I loved the background on the players.
Thank you very much 🥊👍👊
Great video.
Thank you Stephen 🥊👊
Three absolute legends. Looking forward to more videos.
Yeah I'm definitely doing a South African video, I did mention it at the end of this video 👍🥊
They are wrong kid that French fella would do the Boks shit houses to a man
Us Yanks across the pond need more knowledge of this sport and it's heroes (rules ) would help too. Signed, tired James Workshop fed up and disillusioned NFL fan who is not a huge Frenchman fan. These frog guys are monstrous and great video. Subbed.
nice change of content matt, enjoyed that mate nice one👍
Brilliant. Thank you.
I'm working on Jonah Lomu and Jerry Collins at the moment 🥊👊
This Chabal guy rules, his music videos are great😂
🤣 100% 👍🥊
Thanks mate, definitely worth a subscription
Thank you very much 👊🥊

Seeing the caveman in a dress gave me ptsd
🤣🤣👊🥊
Chabal patrimonio dell'umanità! La perfezione assoluta! Bellissimo, forte, colto, ironico, filosofo, saggio, ottimo marito e padre. Andrebbe clonato❤
🥊👊
:-)))
Esteve was the absolute most scariest rugby player of all time, chabel nowhere near
Really! Yeah Esteve was a giant aswell 🥊👍
Chabal had the disadvantage of having to contend with the Maori players and other Islanders 🙂
Beautiful place at the end!
Keep these videos coming. Great work!
Cheers!
Brilliant. Thank you very much 🥊👊
Good vid Matt, cheers
Thank you 👍🥊
Very humble and fascinating comments, thank you.
Thank you very much 🥊👊
Love it Matty. It keeps opening my eyes to tough men who you wouldnt necessarily think about.
Thanks
Hakuho, Harumafuji, Kisenosato had one of the coolest rivalries in Sumo 2016/2017.
One of the best tournaments ever.
🥊👍👍🥊
Love content. I respect the tough athletes of 70s. Being from America I don’t watch lot of rugby and ur football but respect the men who play with heart. Thank you for both educational and entertaining vids. Just subbed. Will be watching all vids. First one was of Rooney. Was great. Congrats on getting in shape. I born in 71. Trying to do that myself. Look forward to content.
Hi, thank you for the message, and thank you for the sub.
And great to hear your getting in shape aswell. Important as we get older.
👊🥊👍
Great video Matt, those Chabal videos are like dreams you have after eating too much cheese late at night. Scary.
🤣 I know what you mean 🥊👊
Great vid again Matt
Nice one Shaun 🥊👊
Great video again Matt.
Thank you very much 👊🥊
Really enjoyed the content again, love the rugby ones. More more more please
Brilliant, thank you 🥊👊
You must look up clips of Jonah Lomu Matt
Definitely bro. He's on the list 🥊👊
Personally, I’ve never played or watched Rugby but I found this video pretty interesting. Nice job.
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you very much for the message aswell 🥊👊
All three tough guys with different personalities shows that you can be tough without having to act tough. Man they look scary , LOVE THE VIDEO, THE STORY and The choice of people.
Thoroughly enjoyed that Matt
Brilliant. Thank you very much 👊🥊
Thank you for the respect you gave to our most dangerous players.
Thank you for watching 👊🥊
Classic, thanks for sharing! I love it!
Thank you Robert 👊🥊
Another great presentation, thank you Matt. This may be of interest to you it's about a Welsh karate man who's name is Howard Collins. He went to Japan and trained in a style called Kyokushinkai a type of karate that advocates a lot of heavy contact and a type of competition called knockdown the aim of which is to knock your opponent down or knock him out. There's lots more I can write about Howard Collins but I would be writing for a long time. I enjoy your presentations so much Matt, thanks again.👍
Ah brilliant, thank you very much. I'll look in to Howard 🥊👊
Dolph Lundgren is a Kyokushin black belt , he was European champion at one point
great video, thanks from France
These rugby players are big hard guys but as ever they are true gents. This will be a good series of videos. Cheers Matt. Just getting ready for the Callum Smith fight. Sadly, I can't see him beating the beast 'Beterbiev'.
Thank you, I appreciate that.
And you were right 🥊👊
Brilliant! Thanks Matt!
Pete 🏴
Thank you Pete 👊🥊
Loving the prolific style.. away a few days n i got some catching up to do! Great stuff.. thanks Matt! 🫡
Love it Matt. I'm a rugby man, grew up around lots of excellent players: the Brown brothers (Scotland & Lions) & Bill Cuthbertson (Scotland). Let me tell you, as a 16yo lad you don't want Gordon Brown chapping your door after midnight to get his daughter & pals from a party they shouldn't have been at. 😇
🤣🤣 Brilliant, lol Thank you 👊🥊
Great video Matt... your perspective is always educational and entertaining!!
Great content as always😊😊
Thank you mate 🥊👊
Don't know much about Rugby, but always love learning about sports. These guys remind me of the Hockey enforcers from the 80's, but I understand these men did more than protect the shooter and fight on ice.
Nice one. Thank you, I'm going to look in to the hockey lads 🥊👊
