  • Trail riding with my son Finn at the Hawarden trail ride.
    This is one of our favourite rides run by Adventure Trailride Events, with an awesome 35km forestry track, and this is our second time riding here.
    I had a close encounter with a tree at 11:45 and did a bit of damage to my bike, but fortunately not much to me. That was one of several crashes of the day thanks to my poor choice not to fit a new front tyre and the slippery conditions.
    Today was also the day that finally came when I couldn't keep up with Finn. He arrived back at the pits 15 minutes before me, so I may have to put the camera on him next time!
    Riders:
    Ben - KTM 350 XCF
    Finn (age 11)- KTM 85 SX

    Another awesome video thanks for sharing Ben. Yes bittersweet ( not sure if that's the right choice of words ) but sounds like young Finn is well on his way to showing Dad how it's done! First time riding there myself after traveling over from the Coast... although we were pleased to get back to the West Coast sunshine after the cool day riding. Well done to you and Finn, looks you had a great time!! Cheers, Hamish.

      Thanks Hamish! I was quite surprised at how far ahead he was at this one. Normally I can match his pace, but maybe not anymore 😁. I just watched some of your videos and noticed that at this ride I had the exact same crash into exactly the same tree as you at 11:45 ! 🤣

      Thanks! It's a very cool trail, although I bet it's warmer there in Maui, it was only about 8°C here! (about 46°F )

    nice riding, those tracks with all the trees so close to the track can be a bit bewildering

    Hello! i came across your channel couple days ago! I've been enjoying the footage that you uploaded and this has peaked my interest of wanting to learn/operate a trail/dirt motorbike and to just get out more! (for me atleast ;) ) If you have any suggestions on for what type of motorbike, engine etc. for a complete beginner I would love to hear it!
    Again great vids, look foward to more!

      Great to hear my videos have spurred your interest in riding. The best beginner bike will depend on a lot of factors including your age and weight, but assuming teen / adult you could look at KLX140, TTR125, TTR230, CRF150, CRF230 etc. Best be would be to head to a local bike shop for a look and to sit on some bikes to get an idea of size and get some advice from them.

      @@bentowse Thank you for replying! yea I'm a adult but small (5'5'' - 5'7'') I will try to go to a local bike dealer sometime to see what would fit me the best and advice. I've also looked into some of the bikes you have listed some of them looks like they will fit me.
      Again Great Vid! Look foward to more! :)

      @@gurd158 id would suggest a ktm 230 exc 4 stroke its ok for a beginner has the correct power you,l need and ya maybe pop along to your local bike shop with questions they're quiet helpful in many fields when it comes to off road bikes and what to buy.

    Shoo Ben it seems that your son Finn has left you behind is it old age or has he got a lot faster now.

    • @bentowse
      @bentowse  Місяць тому +2

      He's definitely getting faster, and not just a little bit on this ride - he got back 15 minutes before me! I did disadvantage myself a bit running a very worn front tyre which made it tricky in the mud, but still...

      Aye Ben ya i noticed you had a wipe out it does certainly delay ones ride when it happens. Yol that is quick 15mins before u. Well enjoy i was out riding on Saturday afternoon in our local forest some good tech sections but great.

    Been there, done that with a tree. That's why my Freeride has masking tape where the headlight used to be 🤦‍♂️ 😂!

    • @bentowse
      @bentowse  Місяць тому +1

      🤣 thankfully the XC-F only has a plastic number board! If I was riding an EXC-F that would have been the end of the headlight and the dash!

    Love your videos dude, have just gotten into dirt biking myself.
    That trail looked a lot more technical than most of your other rides. How would you rate that on a scale from easy to difficult?

    • @bentowse
      @bentowse  Місяць тому

      A bit of rain always adds to the difficulty / fun level of a ride. This ride also has quite a bit more single track through the trees with some trickier spots, although Grenville does a great job of making a novice and kids bypass for the harder bits so that the course suits everyone. You can see a novice bypass at 39:27 and 41:34.
      The muddy uphill at 46:05 was the one part that I don't think couldn't be bypassed and people seemed to find the hardest.

      @joezapr0 Its a big wheel. We did run small wheels for a little bit, but found the big wheels better for rolling over stuff, and plus he's pretty tall for his age so can stand flat footed even with the big wheels.
