The comics was better simply for the fact of the overall story and characters within it. I recently finished the comics and this video makes me want to read them again!
I love the comic. Andrea is hands down one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and I hate how the show ruined her. She was basically the Daryl of the comics.
Yeah but the same could be said with Carol in the comics so your point is a bit invalid, I dont like the comics because carol was a useless character who did nothing. The same could be said with shane, morgan and hershel who are all massive down grades from the tv show counterparts. Also daryl is better than andrea in the comic for me, so having andrea in the tv show just be like him causes daryl to be worse.
@@nani4249 the point of Carol’s character in the comics was showing how the mayhem and isolation of the apocalypse can drive someone crazy. And she ultimately took her own life because she couldn’t handle and evolve to the new world like everyone else. She was so isolated and lonely she suggested a polygamous marriage with Rick and Lori, only to get heartbroken and angry when Lori understandably didn’t want that. I think something cool you do with this series is focus in on a particular character and talk in depth about the differences from comic to show, like Andrea, or Caroll
I have a funny memory involving both versions of this series. I was in high school back when we were waiting for part B of season 5 of the show and one of my teachers made the Terminus sign for out in the hall around Halloween. We started talking about the series one day just us two, and I mentioned how the comic was so different because at the time I liked both. They enthusiastically asked me if they should read the comics since they liked the show. I immediately thought of the Governor Arc and said "I don't recommend it, it has SA and a lot more messed up stuff." and their reply was "O-oh...."
Something I love about the comics is that the tell tale games are connect to the book! The game makes little nods and cameos that really build the world of the walking dead comic (unlike the show trying to become the next MCU by having a bunch of spin offs that frankly are failures since no one cares about them) You should do a review on the walking dead spin offs like Rick grimes 2000 and walking dead the Alien!
I am a huge fan of both but i mostly prefer the show. Yeah, they extended certain storylines out WAY too long but with a few exceptions like Andrea and Carl, the characters in the show were so much better and fleshed out. This is because of the greatest person in The Walking Dead show: the casting director. Even when the storylines or drama or dialogue were a bit clunky, every last performance in the show was top notch. The cast really gave it their all. I understand why people prefer the novels, i understand why people prefer the show. They both have pros and cons, and both of them have far more pros than cons. And as a fan of both, i really love that for people that watched the show first or read the novels first, you can enjoy the other one and really be on the edge of your seat the whole time because of how many differences there are with only the broad strokes being the same. Also, the soundtrack in the TV show is phenomenal and really enhances the story. So now when i am reading the novels (Yeah, baby, Deluxe collection!) I hear the songs and soundtrack in my head.
I have read the entire walking dead comic and it is much much better than the show. I was really disappointed about how much they changed the governor on the show.
What I love about the comics is how more realistic and darker they are than the show. It shows how terrible life as gotten and how it psychologically affected the characters. Michonne talks to her died boyfriend, Ricks group questioning his leadership, When the governor attacks the prison half of the people in Ricks group die. I also think the dialogue is far more superior and has a better impact for the reader.
Really liked your review Ryan! Have you ever watched David lynch's Twin peaks. if yes it would be nice if you can make a series analysis on the tv show
Please do the rest of the series! I remember reading this and attack on titan consistently when i was in high school and they were my favorites. So much better than the show and you’ll appreciate a lot of whats to come.
I love the show alot, i think they did alot of great things with the series. Up until S7 episode 1. Once that episode aired it started going downhill real quick. I love season 7s opening episode but everything after just. Idk i feel like they kinda gave up and started to milking the series for everything its worth. Which could have been fine if they were still going strong but they didnt. I think season 7 and 8 were good for binheing but for week to week it was aeful. Everything after there were only moments i liked a lot but the writing got so damn bad. The comics is definitely the only version of the show ill ever watch/read all the way thru ever again. I might watch the first 8 seasons with someone if they wanna blast through it but i aint continuing after that lol
By the end it didn't feel unbelievable it felt bittersweet tbh which was the perfect ending anyone could ask for yeah it's sad and horrible but what the best part is everyone knows because of what their lives were back then and the people forced them to be. It didn't make them bad people a d frankly it's a cycle of life sadly now we all come back as the dead and have to rebuild
I hope you continue to the end of the seires. The comic only gets better from there. It was such a great ride for the amazing telling. It's a shame how the tv series really pissed all over the source material

As my only complaint about the comics, if I had to force one is that it was colourless, but that never ruined anything for me, it just would have been better in colour.
Going 16 episodes a season was too much, I'm not a huge comic book reader in general but The Walking Dead is amazing and the show is fun overall but the comics are superior on every level.
ok idk about every level, if there’s one thing i might prefer from the show, are some of the characters getting more attention, but if you don’t want to be disappointed read the book because that’ll at least have semi satisfying ending.
I disagree. The characters are definitely better in the show. They have more depth to them. Just look at Rick, Morgan, Shane, Carol, Tyrese, the governor, Negan, Abraham, Herschel, Gabriel. Their stories, epic moments, and character are just so much better and that’s because the show allows them to be better. The comics are scarier and more gritty, more raw, but I always felt the writing was dull. I did wish to see more comic Jesus in the show.
Keeping up with comics when they were still being written so was so fun theorizing of what will happen next issue. I always prefer the comic over the show. I stopped watching the show after season 8 and don’t plan to go back to watch it.
The Governor's arc is even more fucked up if you read the novels. Originally he was a big coward and a big fuck up, unlike his younger brother Philip. Philip did the same shit in the novels that the Governor did in the comics. Philip almost even killed him because he wasn't able to protect Penny and let her die. The Governor started to act like his brother because he convinced himself that the world needs you to act like Philip in order to survive. At the same time, The Governor fights his real persona hiding underneath the new one, often feeling sick to his stomach and crying while trying to maintain the Philip persona. Comic doesn't show that until the last issue where he really gets scared and let's the Brian (the Governor's real name) come out.
oh my if you have so much of a good story left to read i envy you! as someone who has been a lover of zombie fiction my entire life i can say the walking dead comic is one of the absolute high points of the medium, and well worth finishing if you liked it even remotely up to this point
way better than the show, if the black and white turns you off you can read the newly released color comics, i believe they are on the 90th issue out of 193 so you can start reading em in color as they release
I remember being super excited to read the comics, I purchased the first 3 and I was super into it during the first book. Super excited for the second one, I was shocked to see the the change of art style. I just couldn't get into it, the art style was unimmersive for me.
while there are many things that are better than the show, i prefer the shows version of the characters such as shane and negan. i think negans/saviors introduction is wayyyy better in the show.
Read this as it was releasing almost every aspect is better then the show but that’s normally how it goes not enough budget or air time to really flesh out these Storys in a short run time
Hot take ig but if im being honest i liked the first two seasons of the show better then the first two chapters of the book, i think they end at around the same time
I started reading the comic during the farm season of the show(you know, nothing happened there, so...), the comic was extremely great and far superior to the show ALWAYS, BUT, the comic overextended its existence the same way the show did, it should have ended with All Out War(the "final battle" arc with Negan, I don't remember if thats the correct name, anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong), but it kept going... After that it was all downhill for me, everything felt so "unimportant" compared to Negan's "saga", like DBZ after the Cell Saga, imagine if Berserk keeps going after the Godhand are all dead... Oh and by the way, I stopped watching the show as soon as I started reading the comic
comics overall is better. many of its characters (like Tyreese, Andrea, Negan, Carl, Michonne, and Maggie) are better than their tv show counterparts. the zombies are more consistent. the story moves faster. there are less plotholes, and most deaths in the first half of the comic series are pretty cool and arent just for shock value. there are some stupid shit like the commonwealth and the whisperers. but its a comic book so its pretty excusable. like the show, the second half isnt nearly as good as the first. the show has better individual moments like the CDC, Hershel getting his leg chopped off, many scenes with The Governor, many Rick moments etc. and there are many characters in the show who is much cooler in the show than in the comics (Shane, Rick, Glenn, Carol, The Governor, Dwight, Hershel). some rewritten story lines are much better in the show like Terminus/The Hunters, Shane and Rick's conflict in the second half of season 2, the barn story line, etc. But the show is super inconsistent with its quality. season 1 was pretty solid. but the whole first half of season 2 was a complete poorly written, soap opera-y slog. season 3 was also pretty solid, despite some stupid and overly-comical scenes. season 4 would switch from being boring to being good again. first half of season 5 was good right up until Beth's death, and it picked right back up at the finale, which shouldve been the end of the show. season 6 was boring and the whole Glenn dumpster scene made me stop watching the show for an entire two months before picking it up again. the episode where everyone killed all the zombies in Alexandria is prob the only decent episodes, minus the scenes with Enid. and then the rest of the show is just another poorly written, plot-hole ridden, zombie soap operah. Negan is a terrible villain who isnt scary and just gets on my nerves. imo he doesnt rlly work as a villain at all and seems more like an anti hero. tho he needed to be dumbed down a bit and maybe even recasted. Steven Ogg wouldve prob made for a better Negan than JDM. SO the comics is overall pretty good, with one half consistently being awesome for a comic book and the second half being alright and a bit too long. the show's first half is pretty good. a bit of a mixed bag but its best moments are probably some of the best in all of TV. THE SECOND HALF is terrible. some of the worst writting and worst moments ive ever seen in TV and there isnt a single character i liked aside from maybe Morgan, Simon, Dwight, and sometimes Eugene (as the whole plan he made to help Rick defeat the saviors was pretty cool)
The comics was better simply for the fact of the overall story and characters within it. I recently finished the comics and this video makes me want to read them again!

Hmm i didn't know there was a comic book
way better than the show, if the black and white turns you off you can read the newly released color comics, i believe they are on the 90th issue out of 193 so you can start reading em in color as they release
I remember being super excited to read the comics, I purchased the first 3 and I was super into it during the first book. Super excited for the second one, I was shocked to see the the change of art style. I just couldn't get into it, the art style was unimmersive for me.
First couple.of seasons were so goated man
You might have convinced me to give it a read
More reviews please! 🙏
Id love to see u review the rest of them please🤓
This was great thanks! I’m here for more
Idk, the show still clears for me. Better characters, better dynamics, less unnecessary edginess, and better decisions.
It would have been better if you'd used the colored version of the comic.
please, PLEASE, continue with it
while there are many things that are better than the show, i prefer the shows version of the characters such as shane and negan. i think negans/saviors introduction is wayyyy better in the show.
Will this review series be a berserk style analysis series??
I started reading it right at the begging but never finished. I think the tv show killed the hype for me...Maybe I should finish it now.
It had the same issue as the show of after Negan, it really drug on.
Read this as it was releasing almost every aspect is better then the show but that’s normally how it goes not enough budget or air time to really flesh out these Storys in a short run time
Yes, more please and thank you.
I remember reading the first volume at the library years ago. Seems worth checking out again
Oh boy, the govenor isnt even the worst one in the comics
Bro mew berserk is out go get it!
The killing joke is the dumbest Batman movie ever, they literally made Batgirl a sex device for the plot and immediately paralyzed her after
Plz do more reviews!
Are you reading the comic online or physically?
The only thing the show did better was Shane and The Governor imo
Please more love the Twd comics
Of course is not better what is wrong with all the people i like the stories from the characters that were not from the comic specially Daryl
Yes please more reviews
comics overall is better. many of its characters (like Tyreese, Andrea, Negan, Carl, Michonne, and Maggie) are better than their tv show counterparts. the zombies are more consistent. the story moves faster. there are less plotholes, and most deaths in the first half of the comic series are pretty cool and arent just for shock value. there are some stupid shit like the commonwealth and the whisperers. but its a comic book so its pretty excusable. like the show, the second half isnt nearly as good as the first.
the show has better individual moments like the CDC, Hershel getting his leg chopped off, many scenes with The Governor, many Rick moments etc. and there are many characters in the show who is much cooler in the show than in the comics (Shane, Rick, Glenn, Carol, The Governor, Dwight, Hershel). some rewritten story lines are much better in the show like Terminus/The Hunters, Shane and Rick's conflict in the second half of season 2, the barn story line, etc.
