I can't wait for sequel! I expect for shao kahn, kuai liang sub zero, noob saibot, johnny cage, ermac, stryker, kitana, jade, quan chi, smoke and lots of new characters are in the sequel movie. And hope they use johnny cage as main character, too.
I'd prefer no Johnny Cage as a main character, maybe a 4th main. It should probably be Kuai Liang as the main character. Johny Cage could be used as comedic relief. Cole should be used to give the audience a sense of relatability while being scared, yet brave in the new world he is experiencing, that's how the audience connects. While Kuai Liang should be the main character and his story could be working with earth realm, reconnecting with Bi Han(noob saibot), dealing with scorpion? More lin quie lore, and kuai liang perhaps wanting some vengeance towards Cole, but having to bully yet work with Cole. Cole is boring. But the other characters can build around Cole. So Kuai Liang Sub Zero should be main, Cole 2nd, Liu Kang 3rd, Johny Cage 4-5, in terms of the good guys. But then they should compete with Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung for spotlight becauss those characters have the potential to carry the over arching story by their presence
So Kuai Liang (Sub Zero) should be the main focus. Could make up for Cole and just build Cole into something more interesting as the other characters and the lore gets built more, Cole can find his place in the movie later. It's not bad if old characters carry new ones until the new ones can be good. Sort of like metal gear solid series with raiden
The movie really needs to pull them into outworld. Introducing characters like Bo Rai Cho , death pits, tarkatins, quan chi, neather realm, is what makes it so good. It makes you forget about the irl world

This movie had a lot of problems, but the cast is definitelly the highlight.
