What a great talk. the Jesus Prayer and the Philokalia are important parts of my prayer and devotional life.

I'm listening to this video at 3:10am. Now I can learn about Jesus and prayer and listen to lectures at any time.
A worthy point... however. The prayer of the heart culminates in Godly Vision (i.e., theoria) and accomplishes (theosis). Godly vision is synonymous with the prayer of the heart, and is spoken of as such by the Fathers... even if the prayer of the heart is not necessarily synonymous with Godly vision. Furthermore, transverberation and Godly Vision are in fact synonyms. Ergo, insofar as I meant it, it is just so.

Thank You Brother! I have been praying this prayer for a little over a decade. The prayer does deepen and broaden our heart spiritually and sets aright our lives and we sense the presence of The living God and a deep wound is revealed in which we see our weakness and spiritual infirmities and we have a tender pain which causes us to mourn, not in despair, but in hope and God continues to clean out the garbage from our hearts. We may feel we are a spiritual leper and in truth we are and yet we experience fruits, peace,joy,hope,and inner strength to keep His commandments and ability to accept our crosses more gracefully and to see His will in our life and the life of our neighbor. "When we experience dryness in prayer God is preparing and testing our will and intention and in time this passes and we experience consolation as God is rewarding and encouraging our efforts," however both conditions our good.( Paraphrase Way of the Pilgrim). May God bless you in your practice of the Jesus prayer and in your Journey into the kingdom of Heaven. "The Kingdom of Heaven is within you".
Yeah man. Hesychasm is a safe and calm haven in times of distress. There we can commune directly with God. Sometimes its not even about the Jesus.Prayer, sometimes we just need.to talk to God in the secret.place of our heart. With love of course, because only love abides forever and does not fail.

Michael you should change this image of Jesus, it is a catholic invention and totally heretic. Orthodoxy does not separate our Lord in pieces - heart, body, ears ecc. This way you are giving the wrong impression that we worship His heart and not the connection with Him through OUR heart.

No they can't they rejected the theology of Gregory Palamas and the Fathers of Athos. You can only say the prayer in fullness by being a member of the Orthodox Church.
Catholics call "The Prayer of the Heart," or what some Orthodox call," Godly Vision,"... "Transverberation." But understand that this is the highest form of prayer... something not everyone can have. I mean practically. God chooses these. St. Teresa of Avila had this. St. Paul had this, being caught up into the 3rd Heaven.

Yeah it seems almost unreal but it must be listened to with sincerity and humbleness. Also you won't find a better teaching than from Greek Orthodox priest (who this talk was adapted from). He has a website www.saintnicodemos.com/
Its one thing to listen, entire another to do what he says. You have to initiate the teachings into your life, you have to sort of become a poet to even try to pray, it is an Art, the highest form of art there is. There is a book called "The Art of Prayer: An Orthodox Anthology" that you might want to read. This just introduces you to many good concepts of prayer spoken in a wise way.

The grace of Christ give us the power of watching in ours mind, and, if recieved this power, but not before, His Spirit comes in us and intercedes for us.
This is entirely a Divine work; nothing human is in it.

Only baptism in the Holy Spirit unites the heart to Jesus.He is the reason for the life and suffering of Jesus.
The prayee really isnt even about the other words. Eventually you will only need to say the words "Jesus Christ" in your mind and then you will have the effects of the prayer. It truly is a miracle working name and prayer. Its scientific too because its real. You can see the spirits becoming subject to you in his name.

Its interesting you mention this. I prefer the original pronunciation too, and sometimes wish we did away with the english pronouncing. Even my saint's name I don't like it when people say it in our english language. But I do find when Im desperate and call his jesus name in english-greek he still lets me know he hears me. So Glory to God. =)

The Prayer will open a space that allows you to refrain from anger, gossip, judgment, etc. At a certain point, the Prayer actually works through you, i.e., you consent to be an agent of the Holy Spirit. Slowly, gradually, it is not your will, but His Will that is done. "My yoke is easy and my burden is light." So it should be with the Prayer.
Yeah its pretty amazing I must say. Probably the most tanginle evidence for jesus and god being real is when I say this holy and powerful name.

For our Lord's sake, I'm glad I'm totally blind, because People need to hear the Truth! I'm Orthodox Christian, too, and I'm afraid I'd be too quick to judge the icon of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, because it's Roman Catholic. I understand why some Orthodox Christians would be offended.

What you were saying is very nice and very helpful however the image is quite disturbing it is supremely heretical and all through the talk I was debating whether I could continue to listen and even now have turned it off 7 Minutes. I must pray if I should continue. It is not as one of the commentators said that you are always are debating or arguing. It is much more it is the desire for preservation of Purity as is commanded by our Saviour.

Some of the comments remind me of the few traditional Catholics who attack Pope Francis. I guess it is something we need to work on as Christians. . Yeah I took it a but farther too, God is also WITHIN us, just as the gospel of Thomas would say. The imagination isn't necessarily a bad thing but it can lead to delusion, for sure.
But yeah the church has always persecuted the true saints. I'm kind of on the side that the gnostics who were ocndemned in the early church had something interesting and true to say about the world we live in and ourselves . I just think their teachings get you in your head a little more than I'd like to admit. I have to get out of my head and back into my heart.

No one can improve on Christ. He said God is Spirit. St. Dionysus said God is above spirit. How can God be above himself? St. Dionysus is only a man. Why did he think he could improve on Christ?
Listen to the lecture, stop trying to pick it apart like some kind of pope of orthodoxy. St Dionysius is trying to expand on the teachings of the nature of God. You are so pharisaical doing this. I think you should reconsider your religious walk. Maybe think more agnostically about your beliefs.

The only issue I have Mr. Kolitwenzew is that image of Christ, it appears very Catholic, not the Byzantium image of the orthodox image of our lord and savior. Sissy Brooks Yes there is. This is a catholic use which was firstly introduced around 1600 from a French catholic nun and officially recognized by catholics in 1890. It is not accepted by the Orthodx Church.
