I love the mystery dungeon series. I'm glad a player with a writer's perspective enjoys the game, too (it's validating). I'd love to hear more thoughts you have on these games. And maybe you could convince the Hidden Power podcast team that these are fantastic.
I will never not love this game finally getting some positive internet presence. Just finished replaying this game with my spouse, and the story is just as impactful and moving as the first time I played it way too many years ago.
For this run I had Chimchar and Skitty and my spouse had Mudkip and Bulbasaur (Bulbasaur is their favorite Pokemon). Do you remember your first starter/partner combo? Such a shame that Psyduck was only playable in Blue and Red Rescue Team.
I distinctly remember doing the very first personality test in Blue Rescue Team and being so happy I got Psyduck! I think the first time I played Explorers of Sky I was a Squirtle and my partner was a Charmander!
Same for me with Red Rescue Team except I got one of my favorites Cubone. Squirtle and Charmander is an excellent combo, and their fully evolved sprites look so good in my opinion!
