- Lana Del Rey is the stage name of Elizabeth (Lizzy) Grant (born 1986 or 1987), an American singer songwriter
Grant was born in New York City and grew up in Lake Placid, New York. She is the daughter of domain investor Rob Grant. She currently lives in London. The stage name Lana Del Rey came about from managers who believed that a name reminiscent of Hollywood glamour would better suit the kind of music that Grant was making.
She released an EP entitled "Kill Kill" in 2009, under the name Lizzy Grant. She also recorded a full-length album with producer David Kahne, which was shelved for unknown reasons.
Her song "Video Games" was named "Best New Track" by Pitchfork and was featured on The CW TV-Series Ringer. Grant played her first U.S. show on September 21, 2011, at The Box in New York City. Her debut single "Video Games" b/w "Blue Jeans" was released by Stranger Records on vinyl on October 10, and October 11 digitally. Tickets for Grant's show in London sold out in half an hour.
The EP for both of the singles "Video Games" and "Blue Jeans" reached the US Top 5 iTunes Album Downloads hours only after its release. On October 11, 2011 she performed "Video Games" live on Later... with Jools Holland, her first live performance on UK television.
i love how she's nervous but still confident at same time. really want to go to her concert.
I don't think she looked nervous
She probably performed that song millions of times
Wouldn’t bother mate, she’d only turn up late
@@unclebadgerLMAO
She’s has an intoxicating mix of nerves, beauty, sex appeal and a beautiful emotional voice , absolutely love her one of the most wonderful performances I’ve seen
This still blows me away all these years later. Sublime performance. She had nowhere to hide and she hit it into the stratosphere. Goosebumps!
I like skinny Lana best.
Story time into the void: i first heard this song on this show. I woke/came to on the couch just as jools was introducing her, surrounded by bottles and ashtrays. My highschool sweetheart wife and infant daughter had moved out a week before and I was in a bleak place.
I listened to that first verse entranced. The first "and now you do" and i broke in floods of tears, experiencing something other than numbness since she said was leaving.
It was cathartic beyond any way i can articulate.
No real point or uplifting end to this stream of consciousness. Just a thing that happened to a stranger alone in the lounge one night about twelve years ago
The magic of music, it’s can elevate you, or bring you to all states of consciousness and emotion, transcendental, there is no power greater than music, if there’s a day or days I don’t want music I know I’m in a bad place
Truly one of the most beautiful songs I've heard.
it’s funny to come back to this video and see how wrong everyone was in the comments/press reviews.😂
she had it all from the very beginning.❤️🔥
u don’t understand the amount of love i have for this performance omgggg
I wish I could relive listening to her for the first time. It was like nothing I had ever heard before. This sense of nostalgia and love lost. Haunting and beautiful. I played Video Games and Born to Die nonstop for months.
I will forever love this performance.
I'm obsessed by this performance. I couldn't tell you why.
Il mondo corre ad alta velocità e noi purtroppo con lui, ad un tratto ti fermi, ascolti, ti emozioni.......grazie signorina Lana Del Rey
Remember watching this been broadcasted like it was yesterday. 17 year old. Time flies.
She absolutely blew me away with this 12 years ago - she still does! Amazing!
She's not nervous, it's part of her act.
She looks like she’s just got of the album cover
Wow, reading back through these comments is a trip...
None of you could see the genius here? And how the way shes singing is deliberate?
actually iconic
She is so beautiful ❤
Literally been following her journey right from the very start. Remembered her performance here and how nervous she was. Now she’s like a completely different person with a cult dedicated fan base.
Can't wait to see her in Hyde Park. Keep coming back to this mesmerising performance ❤
It feels real with her nerves but its a great performance. Her goddess appearance and unique voice and the bare bones backing make it special. What a song
She's just beautiful...
Beautiful soul
the song is extraordinary , music and lyrics, her corky voice suits the mood pretty well. good job.
11 years later you're still right ✨

Heaven is a Place on earth with you, Lana , yes ❤
Great song and performance.

Gentle and electrifying at the same time, simply the best singer/songwriter since Kate Bush.
Stunning
I actually like this ❤
Extraordinary
She started off great compare to other live performances but since this is song is hard- wide range vocal notes- , plus, she's nervous, she seems so shaky in her voice. But GREAT SONG WITH GREAT VOICE

I like the lyrics so... So true
Love this...
I love her imperfections

@MokeyMcMoke Nah..she's nervous, you can tell by her body language, not quite comfortable. Every now and then her voice trembles in a strange way. She is a little flat on some notes. Also because its totally quiet she has no feedback from the crowd so she's in the dark until she's done singing. Totally nerve racking especially for someone who's been catapulted into the spotlight. She hasn't had the amount of practice time that comes with years of performing.
Jeez..if you want it to sound like the record put the record on. There are no mistakes..its just real music without the bells and whistles
Iloveyyou❤
Video Games reminds me of the Innocent the West has lost ,The carefree attitude and the safety
Fucking amazing
M ❤
Criticizing is how one determines whether or not something is worth your time. And no she does not always perform like, this. It's not about movement its about constistency of tone and vocal confidence. Which she didn't really have in this. I saw her live at the Bowery Ball room early on. Where she said out loud "I don't get much time to practice so I'm practicing with you all." If you look at more recent performances, there's a marked improvement.
some mistakes, but i like her :)
Sings way off key but its still amazing

THE most important artist of the 21st century. Only Taylor Swift is on the same level.
Lmfao
Anyone thinks she looks like Julia Roberts?
Me
No
wow this is a really shaky performance, she seems to get more confident as the song goes on though. She should blast it out because she has an amazing voice. She seems soo nervous!
:(
Shes nervous. poor girl.
is it really just me that thinks that she was much better back then? like now it's just so bad... like she lost that special something or just maybe she put off her acting? maybe she was acting here some character and now she is her true self? either way i only like Lana from this period of time as this performance.
finally someone says what we’re all thinking
Some cracking legs as well!!!...❤
Nice legs
If she wasn’t beautiful I would have fallen asleep trying get through this videoLol
What a dullard you are.
@@amandalorian105 she is terrible and fucked her way to where she got. She has admitted as much
