  • FAO's 2011 State of the World's Forests report, published to coincide with the International Year of Forests, highlights some positive and encouraging trends. Asia and the Near East are showing an increase in forest regeneration and replanting projects.One such project is the "Advancing the Application of Assisted Natural Regeneration for Effective Low-cost Forest Restoration" project, carried out on the Philippine Island of Bohol.
    Presented in this video, it highlights the vital role of local communities in managing, conserving and developing forests. In particular, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) partnered with the Philippines government to promote ANR (Assisted Natural Regeneration) as a way of regenerating the forests

    I live in europe for more than 20 years now, and my heart still in the Philippines, when I went for vacation 5 years ago I bought thousands of seedlings of different kinds of forest trees to plant to support forest regeneration. If everyone of us filippinos living abroad contribute to plant trees or buy trees for re planting as I do then this is a good help to our mother land,instead of buying new gadgets like iphone,dslr etc. to show to others para mag payabang! It's time to be AWARE of what's happening in our environment due to deforestation. CORRUPT POLITICIANS,tama na yang hindi makatao na ginagawa nyo mahiya kayo sa sarili nyo!

      Without a camera of some type how do you "show" politicians what they are condoning? And calling a cell phone a 'gadget' is kind of dumb because it is used by many who do not have regular phones although I don't own one.
      I do agree with you people should be taught that it's good to culitivate trees, if for nothing else than to clean the air and cut back on global warming. We need trees badly.
      I've watched what they have done to part of Alberta, Canada and their destructive practice of cutting down trees and then doing hydraulic fracturing of that once beautiful boreal forest. Bless you.

      Planting tree is easy, maintaining it is hard and preserving it for the next centuries is impossible. Why? It's all in economics. Learn it.

    Philippines has a very unique and rich bio-diversity, where each island has a potentential to develop their own eco tourism economy that is sustainable, enviromentally friendly, and at the same time will provide local jobs and support wildlife conservation. Take for example the island of Mindoro; an island blessed with unique species such as Tamaraw, Mindoro bleedingbheart, and mindoro owl. Those are 2 marketable ecotourism activities already; birdwatching and wild like safari/ treking. Add museums, native biosphere, recreational activities with low environmental impact such as biking, hiking, jungle treking, scuba diving etc. Philippines is a very beautiful country if only people take pride in it, protect it, nurture it, and it will give back to the people.

    Thank you for caring about the forests - hope you are including the Moringa Oleifera - malunggay - among the plants/trees to be planted. As you know Moringa in addition to being commercially viable and nutritionally sound, has a high carbon absorptive capacity and contributes to the dialogue on climate change. We would be grateful if you can share your story on our website Moringa Partners. Good luck in this wonderful activity to help the planet breathe.

    When I visited the Philippines in 1989 many trees now nothing and this is why no ground water is retained in Cebu. Plenty of rain just run directly into the ocean because of cutting down all the trees. Very very sad when a area in the world with plenty of rain will have to entirely rely on ocean desalination.

If we want to see significant forest Improvement and reduced carbon footprint in this country the national and local government should have effective nature rehabilitation and protection policies, and enough power to enforce it.

    One problem is the lowlands, what they only knew is that the mountains should be a forest while they are turning lowlands into an industrialized area. they even conquer highlands for gold.. but how about people living in the highlands? should they have no chance for agriculture to supports their livings and educations? If you really want to restore forest why not do it in your own backyard, on your own farms? because in the first place, everywhere is a forest, its the people in the lowlands who started the destructions, and now complaining on the people living in the mountains.

    • @danielmanuel2653
      @danielmanuel2653 Рік тому

      The lowlands in the Philippines were once highly dense forests too. In fact only in the lowlands our dipterocarps have been thriving. Most of the huge trees like Lawaan, Bagtikan.. trees in dipterocarpacae family have already vanished due to its high market value. This happened because of massive logging events recent decades only most likely during '60s and 80s, Conversion of residual (devastated after kaingin and logging) forests into agricultural use and settlements, overindustrialization. Road widening, monoculture, monocropping and introduction of non-native and invasive trees worsen deforestation allover the country. Todays, only in the highlands our dense forests thrive where trees looks shorter and thin. Sad to say Philippine lowland forests which are almost similar to tropical lowland rainforest in Borneo where dense towering trees only find remaining homes in Subic, Palawan, Sierra Madre Eastern Visayas and Mindanao

    Forest denudation/deforestation is primarily caused by human activities purposely for survival. As a response to it, the government spends so much amount in law enforcement, reforestation and other related activities to bring back forests, however, all of these steps turned futile. As a suggestion, why not the government gives a commensurate incentives for land owners who would let their lands grow trees of whatever kind rather than destroying them for purposes of producing crops which aggravates the destruction of forests like the kaingin system which majority of our farmers do. Countries and leaders of the world... please think about this!

      +MaharlikaMuayThai Coming from my experience as a forest conservative Initiation, one of the things I learn from around the world is the loggers are poor folks who need the money to sustain themselves. Wherever you go, from the Amazon to the Congo, the main culprit for illegal logging is simply poverty. The final solution then is to divert the attention of the villagers that rely on the forest for sustaining means to working towards forest conservation, and make ecotourism a goal. Not only will ecotourism provide the means of delivering income to impoverished areas, but it'll foremost preserve the biodiversity which makes such a place special.
