  • Hey guys, what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained. As requested, today we’ll be diving into The Void, the 2016 horror film directed by Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski.
Starring Aaron Poole, Kenneth Welsh, Daniel Fathers, Kathleen Munroe, and Ellen Wong, The Void is a chilling, atmospheric journey into the realm of cosmic horror.
The story revolves around a small group in a hospital that find themself caught in a nightmarish situation. As the characters grapple with personal demons and unravelling relationships, they quickly realize that they are trapped and surrounded by a mysterious cult and interdimensional creatures that defy explanation.
At the heart of The Void lies an engaging, suspenseful story that explores the limits of human understanding and the terrifying unknown that lurks beyond our comprehension.
In this video, I’ll do my best to decipher the unfathomable, exploring the story, characters, the overarching cosmic entity, in addition to the ending.

I thought it was fairly Lowe budget but the SFX are as good as any. Everything seems like it does have a high production value
I bet it was still inexpensive, but they got the most of every dollar.

The "Nyarlathotep" artwork at 15:43 has always been a personal favorite bit of Lovecraftian artwork for me... I forget the name of the artist who created it, but it's a really neat take on the Outer god. Most depictions of the Crawling Chaos are overwhelmingly drab with heavy use of blacks and greys, but I love how they flipped that concept on its head and went with a more radiantly colorful approach with all of the purple/violet, magenta, and orange/yellow. I've just always adored that piece...

My favorite personal interpretation for eldritch entities being all tentacles/gorey/etc is that from their original realm they don't have a kind of physical form, but upon being summoned they are forcefully given one that is struggling to adapt to its noneuclidean form. An analogy would be like trying to force a word document into a different format, and thus getting a corrupted file

    • @dysn3961
      @dysn3961 4 місяці тому

As for the mind effects, I had always seen it as the presence of the human psyche being reflected back onto the environment/themselves, the eldritch entity not *intentionally* creating fear and illusion onto subjects, but rather a human conscience within its vicinity becomes as warped as much as it warps time, space, and living organisms.

      - Moons of Madness
      - Lust for Darkness & Lust from Beyond
      - The Solus Project
      - The Shore
      - Apsulov: End of Gods (to a degree)
      - Mass Effect (the main threat, the Reapers, probably in the same sense, for me, as the "Skyline" movie)
      - Control
      - Bloodborne
      - The Darkest Dungeon
      - Returnal (but ONLY on the surface)
      - Edge of Nowhere (VR)
And that's just what I can think of right now...

Another horror explained channel introduced me to this film a couple years ago. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but it looks like it may be one of those gems found among a sea of scary films. A lot of cool concepts and sick practical effects.

The Void was an excellent and beautifully executed Lovecraftian and body horror film in recent cinema history.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🖤 That reminds the audience of fearing the unknown and beyond human understanding. This also reminds me of those good old Lovecraftian films back in the 80s. Like the Reanimator.💀

Amazing, fascinating, and horrifying. I've read about half of Lovecraft's works and can see all the elements involved. I enjoy your reviews of the films that you do. This one seemed different, it was a big project and a lot to unpack. You did a wonderful job. I may not want to see the film, but I am grateful for making it understandable and comprehensible.

The first time I ran into this movie, I was totally unprepared! Everything about this movie is entirely next level. From a a relatively unknown cast and stunning practical effects it's almost like when I first saw The Thing. Always amazes me how some silly CGI gory type films get so popular when stuff like this gets overlooked.

A great cosmic horror movie that had a lot of unknowns but the only certain knowing that things was growing in escalation into madness leading to a complete moment of awe and unknowingness with no certainty of what happens afterwards like waking up from a fever dream before getting any clear answers.

The tortured beings in the basement were diliciously macabe and horrible. You could feel theur silent anger at theur plight and theur eagerness to take it out on any other living being. I wish this genre of horror movie was more widespread. My eyes were glued to the screen.

It's a shame that critics were so hard on this movie because of the script when the rest of it is a well crafted indie horror experience with some great practical effects and imagery.
It's pretty amazing how some of the best Lovecraftian movies are those which are inspired by rather than based on his works.
