They don't get enough credit. Watching someone that you love suffer and go through so much and not being able to do anything is so, so hard. They don't know what it's like for us, but we don't know what it's like for them them.

@MT TheNoctHunter There is a sense of duty for giving birth, yes, but there is always a Well Done for afterwards so I would say women ARE applauded. And Fathers ought to be applauded too. The sense of helplessness when there are midwives being busy and the mother in obvious pain and discomfort is a distressing thing. And anything that causes distress deserves a "Well Done, Good Job, You did Great" for when you get through it afterwards. Then comes the "Congratulations, here is your Child" and THAT is when it turns into a duty. But yes, emotional fathers like this should be normalised, I agree.

After becoming a mother I cannot tell you how many posts I've seen of unsupportive, abusive and uncaring father's. This right here is how it should be. Just because women are built to give birth and we are the reason for the continuation of the human race doesn't mean it's not a hard ass thing to do. Support your mamas! Our bodies go through such incredible changes to be able to give life, support.. be there. try. That's what we need.. I am so thankful that my husband is just like these men in this video. He went to every appointment, every ultrasound, every birthing class... You just gotta be there. True, I don't know what it's like to be the guy in that situation, but as a mama just wanting to be there and be involved matters SO much.

Your dad reminded me of my neighbour. Just a little over a year ago my neighbours had a baby girl. They live downstairs so we're in the same building. I've never seen a man this happy before, he was very drunk but he mentioned that his daughter was born at least 50 times in one hour, he was so happy I almost cried. His wife was still in the hospital, but he had to go home because they have a 7 year old son, and someone had to watch over him.

When i was in labour, even pre labour, i was in another plane of pain. I was suffering. Every 5 mins you could literally run a clock of off it i was having contractions. My man didnt get a wink of sleep. He tried and so did i but i just couldnt the pain was so intense and consistent. When it came to active labout where i had to push, id never see him so scared. He supported me and tried his hardest to help amd not look but the dummy kept looking and grimacing. He was so pale. Like you wouldnt believe. He looked so stressed. I had an epidural so there wasnt any pain for me. He looked more stressed than i was coz he watched as she literally snipped me to help the baby come. He told me later he was so scared because there was so much blood he thought something might be wrong. When they put her on my chest he cried and just stared trying not to watch as she stitched me up. After 17 hours of labour, he finally got to hold her. And he was to happy. He had to leave because the wards didnt allow overnight visitors. He was distraught. Going through pregnancy and giving birth was one of the most stressful times of my life. But it was hard for him too amd im grateful he was right by my side.

I didn't have a chance to experience that kind of emotion because we had twins and required an emergency c-section for the second one; It got insane pretty quick. First was okay and we got to enjoy that knowledge for about 30 seconds before the doctor announced there was a problem. We didn't get to hold him as he's whisked away and I'm now being instructed to help unplug the bed, monitors, etc so they can get my wife to a surgery room. I'm trying to be reassuring to her as we're making our way down the hall, but we're both aware shit just got serious. She's rushed off into a room, I'm given medical coverings to put on and by the time I walked in...my wife is splayed open on my right and my son, who's not breathing, is to my left. And I'm standing in the middle of the room, freaking the fuck out and frozen like time stops when you're in a car wreck. Then I heard him cry and it was like a bomb of relief went off in the room. I was pretty much just in the way so they sent me back out. I was probably in there for like 3-4 minutes. After a short while that also seemed forever, they let me know all three were okay and doing good. I was relieved and happy, but also kind of numb. By the time I got to see my wife and sons in our room, it was quiet and content, and that was just fine. 😉

During the birth of my first child I was put into a really tough position to make a life-changing decision because my wife was unable to, and it was the most difficult thing I've had to do while remaining strong and not falling apart. I did this for my wife and for my now (thank god) healthy child. Some time later, I had to lock myself in the bathroom and let the river flow. It's true what they say, having children is like having your heart outside your body. And seeing your wife/loved one in such a critical state is not easy. I believe strongly that we should save all the drama of day to day nonsense for the big shit in life. You will need every ounce of positive energy when life comes kicking at the door.
