What do you think, is this a use case that you would use this device for? I'd love to hear your thoughts about what uses you intend for using your e-ink tablets! *Boox Note Max* :13.3" Ultra Thin (4.6 mm) Carta 1300 300PPI with Keyboard Cover US and HK shop.boox.com/products/notemax?ref=0t1qqbSDWLMb EU & UK euroshop.boox.com/products/boox-note-max?ref=my_f5MKKrpQRge&variant=51671673110891 (These are affiliate links and the small commissions that I earn from sales made through them support me to keep making content for you, kind thanks for your understanding and support! :-)
IMHO, the Note Max is "neither fish nor meat," meaning that it's too big to be a normal hand-held e-ink tablet, but too small to be a portable e-ink monitor. Even at just 600g, it's just slightly lighter than my iPad Pro 12.9" screen.
Is it possible to use this as an external monitor on Mac? A wired connection, preferably. It would be a huge selling point to me if you could simply plug it in and use it with the Mira software.
Can't really fault him for this. It's the question most people tend to want to know. Also, every person isn't the same so it does depend on their specific use case. So he's not wrong, and it's not like he doesn't tell you what their use case needs to be the be for it to be their best or most ideal E-ink option. Really nothing to be upset about tbh🤷♂️
Very impressed with what the Note Max can do, especially as an eInk „PC replacement“ for typing with a Bluetooth keyboard! That said, the Boox UI really overwhelms me, which is why I ended up not waiting for the Note Max, but rather getting the Supernote Manta, instead. No regrets about that whatsoever, though - even less so if and when Ratta gets around to optimizing the typing latency on the Manta. The huge form factor of the Note Max is certainly a breath of fresh air for the market, though.
Thanks for this demonstration. I don't understand why being able to type on a USB keyboard while getting a minimal amount of latency would be too much to ask of e-ink. Is it fair to say the different current Boox models type similarly well with BT keyboards (assuming the tablet is set to a fast mode)? Looking to order a Boox but do want one you can do some low-frustration monochrome typing with.
Why weren’t you happy with the keyboard and the Manta? Is the latency too slow? You mentioned the Nomad was better for using with a Bluetooth keyboard, better latency or what are your thoughts here? Thanks! :)
Kit, I'd love to hear your thoughts about data privacy for teachers and university faculty -- if I understand correctly, Boox doesn't encrypt on the devices. So... I don't think I could use Boox (or Supernote) for reading or commenting on student work. Am I misreading the specs?
I wish the Note 4c came in that gorgeous white color... in fact, Boox should just do white for everything tbh, makes it feel more like a real notebook.
Mmm... No, I feel like a dark bezzel makes it feel more like a notebook because a notebook doesn't have a bezzel, and it's easier for the brain to cancel a dark color and concentrate on only the screen. I love their blue/ green/ grey Note Air line variants.
I am really looking forward to trying this as my main typewriter with Google Docs. Let's see how good the keyboard is. Otherwise I will be happy typing away on my MX Keys mini.
Could you pleeeeeease use your connection with Onyx to make them do extended monitor over usb...? It would be soooo nice to use it as a second monitor from a macbook to read resource material or run music notation apps... My eyes would thank you eternally! 😂
Sort of disappointed about the BSR modes. If it’s to preserve better I say they should have battery saving moves and the performance mode and having the ability to switch. This would be great for all their BSR devices

Could you please make more content on the Manta?

I think it's not exactly 600g, it's a bit less (even though specs say 615g), it's 595g

Everytime some new thing comes out, ‘is this the best?’ And then goes on to ‘it depends on your use case’. So tiring now.

@gamechanger114 not at all upset. Just tired. And as someone who spends the currency of time on the channel, had to express it too.
I am not sure I’d use any e-ink tablet for typing, but writing
I'm forever using my mouse when typing, and the curser on e-ink is still more than frustrating... so I get your point.

Will this one, the 4c, and the 3c all work and display properly while being held upsidedown for us left handed people?

Can you use Goodnotes on this?
Kit, would it be possible for you to review sunvisions new monitor line up, looks like they have added a switchable light on it

If you're typing a novel, and want to split-screen, just get an iPad. If you want to handwrite, get an e-ink device.
