The dollar store in my area put up a sign on the first day they were open. saying that everything was at least $1.51. And that Dollar General was just a name.

This reminds me of when they closed K-Mart. I was able to use my Sears credit card there. Convenient location and some good deals. Now it's a parking lot. The bad policy of California politicians...These two .99 cents stores are in our neighborhood "Miracle Mile" and both suffered rampant shoplifting. The big one on Wilshire .. close to Fairfax has a homeless encampment next to it...We see them filling up their luggage and duffel bags with candy, chips, sodas, etc.. Lots of hard-working low paid employees will lose their jobs.. most of them... have been working for the store for more than 15 years. Too Sad..

I was at San Dimas, California 99 Cents store at 10 this morning .Parking lot was full. Lots of merch in stock. I talked to many customers they were telling me any minute all items go on a lower discount price . Lots of peeps buying had a lot and are holding their merch with them waiting for the PA announcement to buy at a lower discounted price. So sad to see this happening . I ❤ the 99 Cents Store. Hey Mike! 🎆That was 🌴THE BEST 99 cent store in LA especially back in the day!🌴 I found name brand quality items at this store that were selling for $5 to $20 each at retail stores and these items were only 99 cents! I stocked up big time on these items! Back in the day this store would have huge boxes of clothes mens, womens and kids and every item was only 99 cents. Every time I saw these boxes in the stores I was looking through the entire huge box everything was just mixed together. I found some really cool vintage 1980s clothing in these boxes and still have some of the items to this day. The clothes looked like brand new and some of them still had the original manufacture hang tags on them.🎆

I once encountered a Person who didnt want money, just was very honest about wantng bread and a can of Sardines. I gladly bought that for Him and decided to start eating Sardines Myself. I remember when I would go to the 99cent store back in the late 90's and early 2000's every other time the cashier would scan the item for whatever reason the register would go "uh oh" in a high pitched up-beat voice and since there were several rows of registers you'd hear it constantly "uh oh uh oh uh oh" it was the weirdest thing and has stuck with me as a memory all these years lol

You should talk about the fast food restaurants. Government raises the maximum wage to $20 hours. Lots of restaurants and Ma Ma and Pa Pa restaurants close the door 🚪. California like a ghost town.

Closed my fast food place in Ventura, now we’re in a process of applying for welfare, ebt. Might as well draining from this state like many people do. I’m still can’t figure out why california wants us to do this. But I do enjoy sleeping till 10 o’clock 😅

you know things are bad when dollar stores are shutting down.
My dolor tree is randomly closed all the time with a sign saying they have no employees today. You cant have 6 minimum wage employees working 60hr+ week to run your store. That $40,000 year pay is a joke in 2024.
You can’t expect people to survive on 40k or less in todays world, with outrageous rent, mortgages, food, gas, insurance, utilities, daily living expenses, automobiles, drs. Visits, unexpected expenses, I’m not just talking LA, I mean even the rural areas of this country. Factor in inflation which is caused by the capitalist employer class raising prices at will for any reason they like, or what excuse they make up for doing it!
And, then they are made to share the profits by paying their employees and adequate wage, they throw a hissy fit. It was fine when the workers we’re taking it on the chin ; but when equal compensation time comes, capitalism cries and says, “We can’t make it. The real truth is, they can make it; it’s just not a big enough profit margin for them like they were used to. They rather take their money and go milk someone else.
Truth is they need their employees. They don’t make money with out their employees. No workers, no profits. They love INFLATION, it’s money in their pocket. They set the prices, only them. They have board meetings to raise prices. I don’t do it, you don’t do it. Even politicians don’t do it. The FED doesn’t even do it. Only the Company, CEO, shareholders, have the power to do it.
The politicians and employers will try to blame the Fed. They’ll try to say the Fed pumped to much money in the economy that caused it. Wrong. The money supply has nothing ti do with it. In 1999-2023 the Fed has pumped money into the economy all these years solid. And, the quantitative easing. From 99-21 there was no inflation. Then, suddenly we had inflation? Why? Well, 99-21 proves that money supply has nothing to do with inflation. What happened from ‘21 onward? The Capitalist. Normally, in the preceding years, they would keep inventories full! Hire lots of people to flood the inventories. Supply and demand were meet. Warehouses full. No problems. BUT, this time around after the pandemic, and the presidental election, the barons of capitalism decided “we are going to not hire people, deplete the warehouses, inventories, and create SCARCITY! Thus, we shall have raise prices and create Inflation!! And, then we kick our boots up in the desk, and make excuses why it’s happening. LIES, we tell the American public lies like supply lines, logistics, a ship sank, weather etc etc We don’t want them angry at us!
So, now they just raise prices! Inflation. Greed flation. Shrink flation. Everything across the board.
So, they blame Biden. So, that’s why MBS and Putin are raising gas prices. The Saudis have cut crud oil production down, and Trump allowed the Saudis to buy the oil refineries down in Galveston TX that turns oil to gas. Putin and MBS want Biden out this fall. They dictator Trumo back in to destroy democracy.
And, that’s what all this inflation is about! Make a Democrat look bad. The fed never works on the side of democrats. That was just proved the other day on the news. Fed always leans towards republicans. Powell was appointed by Trump. Historically has been true through all presidents.

My partners mom was a hoarder. We cleaned her property. 3 HUGE dumpsters filled to the brim. One year later, she had accumulated just as much junk as we had cleared once again.🤬 Dealing with the mental dysfunction of a hoarder is the most frustrating, infuriating thing I have ever done.

I feel bad for the Homeless, who can eat something for a couple dollars. It will definitely impact Them. I once encountered a Person who didnt want money, just was very honest about wantng bread and a can of Sardines. I gladly bought that for Him and decided to start eating Sardines Myself. I think of the .99cent store and that encounter when I have them. I actually learned to pour them in Top Ramen, its actually makes a descent lunch.
They're the ones doing the most stealing from these places.

I left CA in 2016 and used to always shop at 99cent only. When I left CA everything was 99cents only, my new location did not have a 99cent only store close by. I was "shocked" to see their recent prices :)

I remember when I would go to the 99cent store back in the late 90's and early 2000's every other time the cashier would scan the item for whatever reason the register would go "uh oh" in a high pitched up-beat voice and since there were several rows of registers you'd hear it constantly "uh oh uh oh uh oh" it was the weirdest thing and has stuck with me as a memory all these years lol

Who here remembers going to the 99 cent only store and purchasing a malty fruit flavored 6 pack of, “Bicycle Beer”, an audio cassette tape of Hulk Hogan singing, a 20 year old Live Aid t shirt, and a delicious chicken Kiev for dinner all for 5 bucks?

They've not been a true 99c only store for probably 20 years. But they were far more generous and had a variety of things most couldn't afford for a long time. It's just another end to an era of our existence.
