I had the opportunity to see this tank in person while I was a member of MAST. It is a great tank and Dayne definitely knows his stuff. His room setup in the basement was also impressive.
Thank you Dimitry and Dayne for sharing such a beautiful system. The old reefer syndrome is such a rare thing nowadays. I remember starting reefing 15 years ago as a teenager and everyone was so nice sharing their experience and making sure I would not make the same mistake. Back them, most corals did not have such branding according to their names and high prices. Dayne, is there a reason why you kept 1/4 of your sand? If you had to redo a tank, would you go bare bottom? I think I noticed a leopard wrasse and you may have many others. Have you noticed any change with them without as much sand as you used to have? I did not know how you could aim for 1500 MG until I saw your fish room. I never seen anyone having both calcium reactor AND dosing. I recently ask GHL about doing the same for my tank and I am happy to see the results from your tank. Was calcium reactor with those chambers full of media and MG media not enough to keep up the demand of your corals? On top of that, you are using a kalkwasser and refugium that you just add recently. Was it because it was hard to keep the pH over 8 without the sand? I usually see people feeding the UV light from the return pump and not from the overflow box return. Any reason for doing so? Is it for the flow lost of having to go through a few more elbows? Love the idea of the heater, unfortunately I do not have the knowledge to do such a thing. That is some high level of creativity!
Amazing set up, you can tell he makes use of all the old gear, and if it ain't broke. Do you know wamhay pellets and flakes he feeds? those tangs look huge.
Interesting watch, what was the PAR Dayne was attempting to get, turnover flow rate in display tank and around the sump?? If he could do it again anything he would change or improve?? Anything he wished he hadn't done?? Also didn't see a QT tank for fish, what is Dayne's process for adding new fish and corals?? Thanks
Beautiful tank and system. How can I get more detail info on the heating system. I also am planning a 400 g DT and would like to not have to use 1200W of electricity to heat it.
Building my 7'x4' reef next year when I build my house. Contemplating btw 27" and 30". Does reaching to the bottom bother you and do you have to do it often? I too would love 30" tall tank, but don't want to regret it. LOVE the system btw!
Dayne might answer this, I know getting to the bottom of the tank is a challenge and he does use forceps a lot to access bottom stuff, but the view simply can't be beat. Tough call.
How exactly is redundant heater setup? He said the apex temp controller controls the tankless water heater "and there's a redundant one". Is this another apex? And how do 2 different controllers talk to one tankless heater, how does that wiring work? Is the heat exchanger tubing pex? Lastly what is probability of tankless heater failure, any old schools heaters in there for that?
This is NOT it ,but it reminds me a vid I want to see again..it was so crazy that a guy with 150 gallon reef, had a room that looked like a submarine,so high tech with filtration..all for a small cube reef. Anybody link that? I should have bookmarked it. Never seen anybody spend so much for so little reef.

Wow best fish tank I've seen in years!
Dmitry and Dayne, thank you for informative video. This is how we grown in knowledge of our hobby, please continue to do more of these!
Fantastic reef Dayne, great overview! Thank you for sharing!
A beautiful setup! Thanks for sharing.
This is a beautiful system. Thank you for sharing.

Great feedback Richard, I'll pass this along to Dayne.
Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing the great video. 👍 big like 👍Glad to watch your video, Have a great Time
WOW!!!!THAT WAS TRULY AWESOME

Beautiful reef tank 👌👌👌
Nice video and tank! Curious about ventilation in the basement and humidity management- would like to know if there are moisture problems.
Awesome aquarium!
Great videos, however I’m surprised you didn’t film from the sides! Is there more footage?
You should get it in Part 2, being filmed today.
Dream tank.. Just started my 50g with 15g sump and its doing well..

We talk about this in the latest video we've shot, check it out.
Such a beauty..
Amazing man !!Love these types of videos!!

Dayne does go fairly extensively into the heating towards the end of the video. Is there something you want to understand better?

Great questions that I'll try to get Dayne to answer during the next session. Pretty sure it is PEX.
What’s your mixture of food?name?
I'm voting this up to go into the next time I shoot video
Very Nice Video thanks
Calcium is kept at about 4:20 to 450 alkalinity 8 1/2 to 9
Could you show the fish tank from the other sides? This view is nice but doesn’t give the whole picture. Awesome setup. #reefgoals
Good idea, David. I plan to shoot a Part 2 with greater focus on coral/fish shots, will definitely keep this in mind

What does he keep his calcium and alkalinity at
Alk is around 8.5, mag is close to 1,500, calcium is probably somewhere around 400
