I remember this video was the one that opened my eyes to how creative you could be in dark souls. This is still my favorite playthrough... its like the Anarchists cookbook for dark souls
@@adjustingmythreshold233 He's been active on reddit every now and then - I think he just wanted to stop which is totally understandable, although I would kill to see a video of his style with the new Demon's Soul's remake out. No one's ever quite done it like him.
6 years have passed and I really have to thank you since you made my Dark Souls experience way more dangerous but awesome as well, back in the first days. From the day I saw those videos Undead Burg became one of the last areas I would go after reaching Firelink.
I learned a lot from this series when I was first starting out during my middle school years. I’m now in my last year in med school and still watch this from time to time just for the comfort it brings. Cheers.
Quick tip for anyone watching this video, if you want to go through the tomb of giants and basically everything up until 12:34 but don't want to risk the souls being lost then you can get a ring to save them. If you go up the stairs to the hollowed soldiers and jump across to the bridge, then you have to hug the walls and get to an item, the ring of sacrifice. If you equip this then all of the souls and humanity you had with you when you died you keep. Hope this helps!
Catacombs are always the best way to start the game. Counting the souls I got from both Catacombs and Tomb of the Giants, and including Pinwheel, you end up with a little more than 40,000 souls and the Right of Kindling. Pretty much what I do every time I start a new build. If You have enough dex, you can get the Estoc from New Londo, traverse the Catacombs to Vamos, and upgrade it to a fire. Go down to Blighttown and get green shards. Kill the hydra in Darkroot basin, climb up the ladder, and get the hornet ring. If you're good at parrying, Then you now have a weapon that can effectively one shot (Two hits, two shot?). This always makes farming for chunks easier before finishing Sens fortress(Go join Dickwraiths for funsies). Iron Golem was always too hard for me anyways, rest of the game is cake.
This is so broken. But you know what? I like it in some way,DaS1 you had this feeling of freedom, you could go almost anywhere as long as you know what you're doing.DaS2 the places to go is pretty limited and don't give you acess to almost nothing, that is why it takes more time to make builds than the actual DaS1 even with Soul vessel.
Dark Souls 2 has made many improvements, but it has lost some of the things that really made me put hours into it. I suppose this is evident in the fact that I've got 200 hours+ on Dark Souls 1, and little more than 60-70 hours on Dark Souls 2. Part 2 feels a bit more artificial, many of the attacks from bosses and even some regular enemies have rather wide hit boxes despite showing an animation that suggests less, a poor attempt to portray difficulty. In Dark Souls 1, you'll get the range you see. More so then that, despite having four roads to travel in Dark Souls 2, and despite the vibrant areas you travel to, the game does a rather poor job of tying it together, many areas don't seem to fit in the world. In Dark Souls 1, you get rather breath taking connections, and originally, the hope that there's something more, like being able to see some of Ash Lake from Nito's Lair. That convinced me that there were still a lot of things to be found in the game, and inspired countless more hours of gameplay, and more interaction with other people than any other game I've played.
Max Jerker One of the things that drives me mad is that the awkward AI sometimes recovers fastest than the normal from their attacks like pursuer and some archers, and there is some attacks that doesn't even finish the animation to hit you.I like DaS2 but I don't think that is the best from the series
Almost a decade after and i still call my friends to attention with this line 12:37 that i got from you :) , also hundred of hours played in soulsborn games and i still come back to this videos and enjoy a lot to watch them again and again, this were the videos that got me into souls games, thank you Vageta.
Thanks guys for all the kind words. I really do enjoy doing playthrough videos, they're just a huge time investment especially with added commentary. When the PTD edition comes out I'm sure I'll be in the thick of it with new footage and eventually a new playthrough. I'd love to do a "gravelord curse" playthough with all areas cursed as I think it'd be an awesome challenge. I'd have to find a way to get people to curse each area, and apparently it's possible to quit out and make it permanent.
This is the bible to me. I was completely blown away by this series back then. I still play from time to time, and all those tricks that seem so obvious now, I learned them right here.
Oh man I miss these videos I miss dark souls 1 and I miss the good old days where all I had to worry about was homework. I’m on a nostalgia binge where I’m watching all the videos I use to watch when I was a kid and it brings back son many memories.
when i saw this video i instantly subscribed, that was some great speed run tips and tricks. I don't know who would try pinwheel first but you pulled it off
This video series was mostly to show that you don't "have" to use the BBG in order to have good gear at low levels. Anytime someone invades at low levels it's assumed that they cheated which I find sad since obviously those that accuse really have no grasp at what is possible in this game, and most likely lose not because of being outgeared, but because they are simply bad players. Anyone who is worth their salt in pvp already knows what is possible and probably have the skills to achive it.
As someone who just started playing dark souls when it released for pc I have to say thanks for the wealth of knowledge available on your channel, I appreciate the effort and time you've put into the videos and am learning a ton.
You didn't simply point out a small mistake, you said you hated it when people pronounce zweihander incorrectly. Others have already pointed this out to me in a much nicer way. You're annoyed I said a word wrong. I'm annoyed that you brought it up the way you did. Others are annoyed that we're spending time arguing about such petty things. Look man, I don't make money on UA-cam, I just make videos for fun. I'm a regular guy who can get annoyed just like you. Remember that.

Hey vageta, just wanted to say that your Dark Souls videos are by far the most enjoyable videos on UA-cam (regarding DS of course). Thanks for your hard effort.
This is the most amazing Dark Souls video I've ever seen. You're as solid in your mechanics as a speed runner would be and your knowledge is spectacular.
That was purely for educational purposes which is the entire point of the video. Pinwheel is one more drop down from where I dropped to jump into the coffin. It's faster and safer to get to Pinwheel that way since you don't have to get passed the Titanite Demon. Since I was getting the GL sword anyways I simply showed people a cool little trick. I assure you I could have gotten back into the coffin and beat him normally, but then no one else would have learned that little secret.
There are secrets in the game, you learn the game and then they aren't secrets. You should consider yourself lucky you have access to help. In the 8 bit era, the only help was a 900 number (5 bucks a minute) if you wanted help, otherwise it was shut up and figure it out.

This is mind blowing. This is awesome. This is so completely and utterly bullshit that I didn't know I could get the Gravelord Sword before...well..anything. Kudos, dude, for completely mastering the game.
Man just because of your walkthrough i had the inspiration to play the game, i thought i would never continue playing it, i was totaly suck at it, now im at least moving on a bit, just beat the gaping dragon :) thank you!
I think the BK in Tomb of Giants right past the first fog gate uses one. That gives you a 2nd chance, but to be safe I'd make sure your item discovery is at 410 or else you'll have to wait until you get to the Kiln. By that point though the game is pretty much over.
I really love the fact that you speed up the video instead of just cutting it out. It's something I've always wanted to do if I ever made videos, because I feel that it's nice to get an idea of how long something takes, but being able to view it in a smaller amount of time. For example, when you killed the undead dragon, I probably wouldn't have any idea as to how many hits it would take to kill him if you just cut it out.
It takes awhile to get used to the timing, but it works everytime. Just make sure you wait to hit the button till after the animation of switching hands completes, and also you should walk forward as well to ensure you're close enough. Practice at Firelink with the weaker guys until you get it down.
That kind of "Tutorial" you did is really great work and really great help for me, since on begin I didn't even know how to get to the catacombs. But I am not so good as you, kind of beginner and after not beeing able to do the run on begin with a new char I'll took my lvl 27 Pyromancer (allthough I killed Gargoyles with him already, it didn't really bothered me) So, just want to thank you for showing those tricks and ways, and the Commentary was really helpfull. Thanks ;)
Thanks for doing this! I did something like this once although i was just exploring and found out some of these things but even my friends didnt believe me. For instance i found out how to get to the gargoyles without fighting taurus through new lando by using the master key in a similar way to getting to blighttown but now that i have found this playlist i can send it to them and they will believe me!
Thank you for all the videos and guides, they have helped me become a much better player. My first character I beat the game with was a low vit light armor challenge and I was able to kill Seath and the 4 kings on my very first try with him. I am looking forward to seeing your DkS 2 videos! Thank you again.
Yeah, I know I am late but I discovered your video just yet. I think it is an awesome idea. It is fascinating how everything you do looks soooo easy. :D A few days ago I started a new play through of Dark Souls, because my old save game was destroyed by my defect HDD.... So there I am again facing the twin archers in Anor Londo and I hate that part so much :D. Anyway, thanks for this nice set of videos and have a good one! Best wishes from Germany.
Pretty much what saladin said, though you can reach the vendor without getting the basement key pretty much right after you hit the Burg. There is a shorcut down into the lower Burg and can suicide past the 2nd set of dogs/thieves to make it to her. This shortcut will be in part 3. Also prepatch you can trade a cracked red eye orb for 2x purging stones at snuggly and do it multiple times. All you have to do is run to the parish and make it to the elevator to get back to the asylum.
Also, this guy is seriously pro. For everything involved in the catacomb/tomb of giants run, if you hesitate for half a second, miss a roll, or miss a parry, you will be starting over due to your no armor status. If you want to follow this route, you either need to have great twitch reaction or be a complete sadist with a LOT of spare time to burn.
Completely agree with you there. Someone will have their own little advantage that will get you beaten. Its just having the skill imo to be able to beat your opponent even when you're at a disadvantage. Good vid.

A few days ago I started a new play through of Dark Souls, because my old save game was destroyed by my defect HDD.... So there I am again facing the twin archers in Anor Londo and I hate that part so much :D.
Anyway, thanks for this nice set of videos and have a good one!
Best wishes from Germany.
God back in the day, you don't need to kill pinwheel and activate that blacksmith to get the gravelord sword also ( i miss this dude)
You are a very good player. Not a speed run but a very very good play i watch all this series and it was a real pleasure. GG
I love the videos dude! Keep it up, you really helped me out with my dark souls progression and knowing certain tips / tricks. Screw the haters.
I still rewatch this occasionally. I've beaten dark souls multiple times and still play it but damn watching this series makes me feel cozy
this series has helped me a lot! I really learned a lot from this!
Good vid.
yesss cant wait you and epicnamebro are my favorite youtubers
keep it up man. You do some amazing work, for new players and veterans alike. A+++
Epic video man. I like how you cut right to the chase and have the skill to back it up. *Subscribes*
re-watching this makes me realize where i learned all my tricks that I do
I am a new player of dark souls on the pc and watching this makes me drop my jaw.
This guy must be one of the most skilled player in the game.
The best ds1 player! U was my senpai many years and many souls ago.
That reduced fall damage by jumping trick just blew my mind. Even now this game is still surprising me.
Thank you Vageta311 for being the start of my fromsoft journey. If only you could see elden ring. I hope you are well and hope you are content knowing how many people your series have helped. In 2016 I didn’t know these games would change my life.
We still think of you.
yo Vageta, EnB brought me here really. I really enjoy your vids so far especially the parrying ones. Greetings from Korea!!!
Looking forward to this series! I hope you continue with it!
