Hyouka is so nostalgic for me. I love how the story presents deep topics through the solving of mystery cases. It's one of my favorite slice of life high school animes.
Hyouka is fantastic. It visually stunning, the plot is very smart and unique, calm pacing, and interesting characters. I recommend reacting to the barakamon op and Ed. The ending had made it on many best ending lists. Also, nice Christmas top. Hope you have a happy Christmas.
Kotenbu Series (which first volume is called Hyouka, here the name of the anime) is not a mystery anime but more a masterpiece and beautiful parody of classical mystery novels, where each Volume is an obvious reference to a popular novel (most of them from Madamme Agatha Christie) Also, each character is also a parody The main guy is a reference to Sherlock Holmes, the short little girl is a reference to Hercules Poirot and Miss Marple (which is funnier considering she is, in the novels, an actual fangirl of both of them), the other guy is a parody of both Hastings and Watson (even his relationship with the other two) and the main girl is actually a representation of the average mystery novel reader full of curiosity If somebody is interested, each volume references and parodies a novel and the subtitle of each volume is a hint, here the list: 1- The Niece of Time - The Daughter of Time 2- Why didnt they ask Eba? - Why didnt they ask Evans? 3- The Kudryavka Sequence - The ABC Murder 4- Little Birds can Remember - Elephants can Remember 5- It walks by past - It walks by night 6- Last seen bearing - Last seen wearing
You more or less got the gist, however the second ED isn't actually random. Basically what the series is about is Hotaro Oreki, upon entering highschool has no interesting in joining clubs, excelling in studies, or finding romance. He finds those things tiresome and instead of going for a "Rose Colored Life" he prefers a Calm and Safe Life of Grey. He lives his life by the motto. "I don't have to do it, I won't, If I have to do it, Make it Quick!" However from a request from his older sister in college he joins the Classic Literature Club, that she use to be a part of, in order to keep it from closing, planning to just use it too chill after school. However he meets Eru Chitanda who has insatiable curiosity and finds out he has a knack for solving mysteries, and thus his energy conserving way of life comes to an end, as he can't say no to her, as he "begrudgingly" finds himself enchanted by her. His friend Satoshi Fukube and Frenemy Mayaka Ibara also join the club, Satoshi because he wants to see if Chitanda can break Oreki out of his shell, and Mayaka because while she can't stand Oreki she has a one sided crush on Satoshi. Basically the story is a bunch of whodunnit mysteries in the style of Holmes or Poirot, but with less high stakes than murder. Some are longer arc mysteries some are more one offs for an episode. But basically through solving these mysteries and bonding with the Club Oreki learns what it means to live a "Rose Colored Life." The Second ED is a reference to both girls trying to get the boy they like, but for whatever reason aren't ready to commit. Chitanda's catchphrase " Kininarimasu" is a very important motif in the anime, it basically means "I'm curious" both in an intellectual I want to know sense, but also in a more passionate, romantic sense of building desire to want to be close to and know about something, whether its a topic or a person. Its a beautiful coming of age story, and Kyoani's magnum opus In my opinion. There are more Novels that happen past where the anime left off, and sadly for various reasons we might never get a season 2. But I'd say Season 1 leaves off at a good enough place. BTW you reacted to Shoshomin a few days ago, well the person that wrote the source novels for both Shoshomin and Hyouka are the same person, both are about coming of age stories about young people that feel they don't fit in that use whodunnit mysteries to tell the story. Although Shoshomin is a bit darker than Hyouka and takes its main characters in a completely different direction.
So fun fact about that second ending theme: not only is it referencing Sherlock Holmes with the two girls, the two boys are referencing the phantom thief Arsene Lupin. Just thought you might find that interesting :) For OP/ED recommendations, if you want something very unique, I highly recommend looking at the OPs of Last Exile or Air. Both are absolutely fantastic, but I don't see them get reacted to very much.

This is a masterpiece, like high school detective stuff, nothing supernatural. Just school mysteries, rumors, and legends.
Older sister's deduction skill is definitely supernatural 😂.
This anime remains one of my favorite sleeper hits of all-time. I didn't know the show could get me so emotional at times.

Thank you ❤️ have a wonderful Christmas
This is masterpiece because so little anime that can recreate some vibe and nice animation from that old time year
I don't think there are many animes that deserve the word "beautiful" more than Hyouka in every aspect.
About the second ED, if not obvious - Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot vs James Moriarty and Arsène Lupin.

Mayaka is actually referencing Hercules Poirot, whats even more interesting it's that Mayaka is actually a heavy Poirot fangirl
