Gene I have been watching your videos for a couple of years now. The amount that you have helped me is unquantifiable. The break down of specific techniques is unique to your channel. Thank you!! Keep on fishing
Gene, the way you explain and breakdown these techniques works so well. Thank you for these videos. Even though I feel like I know a decent amount about bassin, I take away something new from each vid. Tight lines my man! Also, if anyone has a free minute, any feedback on my videos is beyond appreciated!
Glad to see something about chatterbaits, the way they behave in the water always seemed logical for the fish to hit them hard, but I wasn't sure exactly how to fish it. Now I do!
Gene, thank you so much for all of the how to videos! If i ever have a question about a bait or anything I come to your channel and always find exactly what i need! Keep up the amazing work!
First saw you fishing the chatterbait a few years ago and had a heck of a time catching a fish on them. Now it's my favorite bait. I've been fishing them at dusk and at night lately and killing them. Keep the great videos coming!
Perfect timing I've got a tournament this weekend on a lake with a lot of grass I'm going to give this a shot I'll let you know how I do thank you so much Gene keep the videos coming!!!
Gene, this is why I love you and your videos.Your videos are always on point and your videos aren't full of a bunch of stupid crap that doesn't relate to fishing, like many of the more popular fishing UA-camrs videos.Your also very humble and actually communicate and listen with/to your subscribers.Keep up the awesome work Gene👍🏼.
LOVE using a chatterbait, prob the lure I've caught the most fish on here in El Paso. A lot of times I don't even have a trailer on it and the bass are still smashing them. Thanks for another great instructional video, keep up the good work! Also, awesome shout out to LFG. Its amazing to see the UA-cam fishing community really doing all they can to help Justin out in his current situation. My shirt will hopefully be here this week.
I love this technique I was doing this today I find that braid helps slowing the fall of the Bait therefore perfect grass fishing. Helps keep depth. Love the z-man
Flukemaster I"ve been watching your channel for over a year and a half. You've taught me how to fish and I thank you for that. Just bought my Big Rig a few weeks ago and love it. Just wanted to comment that I appreciate the part of this video that you go over what the bite feels like. Often times I wonder if I'm missing bites altogether - would be helpful if on some of the questionable baits that you briefly comment on "what the bite feels like". You have the best videos, thank you!
Ordered 1 of Justins shirts it's 1 thing that I honestly can say I understand he needs the help and the shirt looks sweet hope for his speed recovery once he goes to surgery
Thank's for the response, I would like to add that two days ago I went out with a baitcaster for the first time.. I watched your video's on tuning and casting and surprising enough only had 1 minor backlash (my first cast and didn't realize that I had to stop the spool before it hit the water). Thank you very much for making my experience as painless as possible. BTW I'd really like to see how Clark has come along.
Got my 1st chatter bait fish using your tips brother! Ty ty ty. 28 inch pike and a 3.5 lb smallmouth! Great shout out to LFG! Got my shirt already man...keep castin
And btw been fishing tournies in cwood n lived on the lake my whole life you have helped me so damn much as i am a recovered addict 3 andba half years clean your an inspiration for me i love ya bud!
Great video when I was learning how to fish the chatterbait your channel was the number one video on UA-cam now it's become my confidence bait I don't even throw spinnerbaits anymore maybe we will catch you out at Rocky Mountain pfa
I hope UA-cam is paying you good. 5 commercial during your vid. And whatever they pay you it isn't enough. Love the videos. Thanks for getting me hooked on fishing again
Gene I need to fish some shallow grass like a couple feet and I think a t-rig should work well but not sure what plastic to use the water clarity is fairly clear
Awesome video man. Always love yoyr videos and so much information my friend and always appreciate it alot.. sent u a message on Facebook regarding the Mayfly again. KEEP up the great work bud.. Tight Lines
I met you up here in NJ at the tournament the Ike Foundation held not too long ago. I still have the hat you and Ike signed. Its hanging on my wall. Haha! For those of ya who haven't met him yet, yes, he is as cool as you think. We talked for about an hour or so all together. Glad to see you're doing well Mr. Jensen.
Great Chatterbait video. Love the chatterbait but do not always use a trailer. Might use a trailer more often. Just ordered a t-shirt from Lakeforkguy because of you....and he seems like a good dude like you. Economics have been a real challenge the last couple of years but...Trust in the Man and the Man will take care of you. He keeps coming through for me. Keep up the educational videos. Details make your videos stand out over all the other channels.
Give Nate's Custom Baits a try. They make great jigs, under blade spinners, chatterbaits, and weedless chatterbaits. I love the color choices, they work really well around me in northeast pa. Lures are a buck tail (deer hair) skirt hand tied with a material skirt. I was concerned with trying a new company out but now that I have, I dont want anything else as far as jigs and chatterbaits go. The underblade spinner can also be worked with a jerking motion so it darts. I know I sound like a damn advertisement but this is just something I really think all fisherman should try. Was at a lake surrounded by 3 guys catching nothing, threw a Nate's Custom Baits jig and pulled out a 3lber. If you like chatterbaits and jigs, try them!
Hi Gene. First off, I love your video man. Your UA-cam channel was the first channel I've ever subscribed too if that means anything. I just recently got into Largemouth and smallmouth fishing and you have taught me a lot. I was just wondering if you have a video or can make one on how to read fishfinders. Just got my first kayak and a fishfinder(Lowrance 4) and I'm having some trouble reading it.
Thanks for your videos they are very helpful, I am new to bass fishing and study videos, techniques, and best practices but have been striking out more times then not. This question is also for viewers as well. W/o the use of a fish finder, how common is it to go days-weeks w/o a catch?
It all depends on the condition. I spend more time looking for concentrations of life when I'm fishing than I do looking at my fish finder. It small lakes it's all about paying attention to the details. What parts of the lake as the most life. Both little fish on the bank and birds that eat fish. Just find the life and you will probably find the bass.
Should’ve got spent the extra $10 and got the 7’5”. Really regretting it now, nothing against the rod, I’m in love with the Muse Black, actually my favorite rod I’ve ever used, just wanted a longer and a beefier handle section that’s present on the rod with the extra 2 inches
Hey fluke master i live in candlewood lake in ct n dont have grass have actual seaweed could ya do a video on best way to fish it i normally hit the edges, but seaweed is pretty tricky to me landed some great 6 lb smallies but they were on rocks n the weeds just stump me somtime
Great information. But: Have you compared chatter baits to jigs in grass? I've seen numerous videos on jigging in grass as a superior tactic. What is your experience? And I see you use the paddle tail swim trailer with tail down. Does it work better for you vs tail up? Or clipping the paddle? The reasoning I ask is some anglers found tail down action was restricted due to water flow through the skirt. So tail up was shown to increase performance of paddle tail trailers.
Hey Gene, AWESOME video! Do you have a video on how to help me fish a shallow bayou that is plumb full of grass, all the way to the surface? There is a creek coming in and that's the only soot that's deep (over 6 ft) Basin Bayou/Florida for the record
Hi Gene, really enjoy your videos. I notice that most of your reels are an 8:1:1 ratio, at least from most of the videos I recall. What situations would you want to use a lower ratio and what is the lowest ratio you would use?
5.3 and 6.6 I use for cranking big crankbaits, 7.6 I use for squarebills and spinnerbaits and I would even use it for this technique. I just didn't have it on that particular rod.
Another great teaching video, Gene. We got a T-Shirt in support of Papa "Fishing Freak - LFG " . You two need to get together and make a video when he recovers....Just one thing I ask - Please, no Peric.
Hey Gene I'm looking into getting Either a concept a or a concept c and I I'm torn between them I'm going to get the concept z bearing when it comes out but is the any differences that I should be aware of other than the c have 8 + 1rb and the A has 6 + 1rb Thank you
Knas Twd DO NOT BUY A CONCEPT!!!!!! My friend did and I bought a shimano chronarch mgl and mine is better by a very considerable amount. I'd go daiwa or shimano and maybe lews, but NOT 13 FISHING
Are there large size chatterbaits? It looks like the ideal replacement for bucktails when casting for muskies in Canada. The grass was about two feet below the surface and I think it will work for me next year.
The local lakes in my area of central NC have this grass on on the bank out to about 2 feet. Some of the dead stalks will extend out underwater about 5-6 feet. It's very sturdy grass with thick stalks. The bass live in this stuff all year long but it's very easy to get hung up in it because the stalks are so thick. You absolutely need braid. I wish I knew the name of it. Anyway, I usually fish weightless flukes, senkos because they tend not to get hung up in it so much. It's not really submerged grass except for the old stalks left over from when the water was low so I don't know how to fish it with a chatterbait. I guess I"ll just have to experiment. Appreciate any tips.
Hey Fluke, I just picked up a blackout and was wondering since they don't sell them anymore, is there a difference between the blackout and 13 Fishing Fate Chrome?
Hi Gene, what size trailer are you using on your chatterbait in this video and is it the Strike King Rage Swimmer Swimbait? PS. Love the videos. They helped me out more times then I can remember. Anytime one of my fishing buddies ask me anything about what I’m fishing or how I’m fishing it I tell them to just watch your channel.
Gene- does this work with milfoil too? I ask because I have a spot here locally that's full of milfoil. I know I can punch it but that hard to do from a kayak.
Caught my first bass on a Zman chatterbait today. Caught 3 bass on my chatterbait green with red flakes twin tail grub trailer black n blue zman custom chatterbait. After 2 years those chatterbait was collecting dust those bass knock the dust off em today.
Realistic Fishing keep trying, its an incredible bait. change your retrieval speeds up... i like to kinda fish it as if I were slow rollin a spinnerbait
The Elite Series is the one you want to throw. I've caught two eight pounders so far this year and several in the 5 pound range. Especially good in dirty water. In deeper water I yo yo it for a reaction bite.
We have dirty water and current. I caught Thanksgiving dinner camping last year on a blue/black on current break just off a point in 6 feet, deeper on both sides. Dynamite technique. And don't hate, I was truly thankful, and he was delicious!
For the most part. I've got a few things in the works that will be different than the normal flukemaster, but I'm not going to quit or slow down with the instructionals
What's your water clarity like do you throw them in clear water? I usually fish really clean clear water and tend not to throw chatter baits as much. Just wondering
I bought a shirt for LFG great shirts guys! Buy one! Another thing seaweed in candlewood lake is just so damn thick n everywhere. Hello Flukemaster, just wanted to say I enjoy your videos and have learned quite a bit from them , stay safe and tight lines.
I have been watching you for years and I can say half of my fishing knowledge has came from you!
Thanks Nolan. I'm glad I can help.
I've never fished a chatter bait. Looks like something I should try. Thanks for the tips, keep them coming.

I love fishing chatterbaits in the grass. Top producer of smallmouth in the fall. Caught plenty of 4-5lb fish ripping free from weeds.

+Michael Jones I throw something that will catch some grass and bring it back to me.

I'm sorry Jean but Z-Man will always be my favorite brand of chatterbait. I caught my biggest on it so I'll always love'em.
+DJ and Friends project z chatterbait is a zman.
Flukemaster Oh sorry
Love ya Gene, one day I have to fish with you!!
Thanks Shane
Flukemaster C:
Dude saw you at the FWC today! I was the kid on the 2nd floor beside the Ranger giving you that stare. 😂

Gene, what brand paddle tail are you throwing on the back of that chatterbait?

Awesome video Fluke! Would you say that boat position should be roughly the same for when you're fishing out of kayaks?
Yes
Do a video series where you go out... And pattern the lake based on condition.. like water temp and wind... And try to find the fish
I've got a few of those and that's my favorite type of video to do just difficult to film.
It's great to hear the working mind of a fishing genius while figuring out the pattern.
Are there large size chatterbaits? It looks like the ideal replacement for bucktails when casting for muskies in Canada. The grass was about two feet below the surface and I think it will work for me next year.
Actually there are bucktail chatterbaits, best of both
SixPointFive Millimeter Thanks for the information. I will look for them.
Down here on Seminole most of the grass/hydrilla is topped out. Tip video?
Any giveaways coming up for the fishing shirt of the month club members?
Will you be replacing the bearings in your current reels with the polymer disks from the concept Zs?
I probably will.
Love it
Thanks John
Welp I must say I found this video a bit late. However I fished a chatter bait thru the grass today and swiped a 5 pounder. Same conditions.
Hey Fluke, I just picked up a blackout and was wondering since they don't sell them anymore, is there a difference between the blackout and 13 Fishing Fate Chrome?
New reel seat, guides and grips
Hi Gene, what size trailer are you using on your chatterbait in this video and is it the Strike King Rage Swimmer Swimbait? PS. Love the videos. They helped me out more times then I can remember. Anytime one of my fishing buddies ask me anything about what I’m fishing or how I’m fishing it I tell them to just watch your channel.
By the way love your vids
Thanks Jason
Your like a celebrity to me.
I still haven't caught one on a chatterbait 🤔
Realistic Fishing lol
Realistic Fishing keep trying, its an incredible bait. change your retrieval speeds up... i like to kinda fish it as if I were slow rollin a spinnerbait
its okay I never caught one on a spinnerbait
The Elite Series is the one you want to throw. I've caught two eight pounders so far this year and several in the 5 pound range. Especially good in dirty water. In deeper water I yo yo it for a reaction bite.
We have dirty water and current. I caught Thanksgiving dinner camping last year on a blue/black on current break just off a point in 6 feet, deeper on both sides. Dynamite technique. And don't hate, I was truly thankful, and he was delicious!
Great vid great tips love your support for lfg fishermen stick together!!
Do you ever fish tournaments?
old school fluke master is back
For the most part. I've got a few things in the works that will be different than the normal flukemaster, but I'm not going to quit or slow down with the instructionals
What's your water clarity like do you throw them in clear water? I usually fish really clean clear water and tend not to throw chatter baits as much. Just wondering
I'll do it in clear or muddy water but you usually don't have very muddy water on a grass lake.
What paddletail is that and what color skirt
Hi Gene! Jasper, GA here. Do ya do a lot of kayak fishing?
Yes I do. I'm leaving on a kayak trip tomorrow.
