I have a 20" mirror ball and it's my favorite centerpiece! I normally hit it with 2 Saberspot rgbw's at 45° from each corner of the stage. If I hit it with 2 focus spot 4z's...all hell breaks loose even in broad daylight! It will light up a 700 seat auditorium like nobody's business. If you have an extra moving head or two, may I suggest trying them since you may have an issue with where to place the lights. Thanks bro'!
The classic old school incandescent pin-spot is the bees knees - The only better lighting fixture is a tight beam follow-spot which I use when the mirrored ball is hung from the center of a gymnasium. I've also invested in a road case (Road Cases USA) to transport my mirrored ball.
For the best effect, we recommend using a separate stand with pin spots. For the ultimate effect, use movers (profiles) with 3 degree beams or narrower (w/zoom).
I use 2, 4 color pins spots I got on Amazon. I use ADJ fixture brackets and attach them at the bottom of the stand works pretty well. I never tried an ape light, I'm gonna give that a try! :) Thanks for the video
Hey Brian, I used the ADJ Saber Spots in the past and they are nice but only 15 watts. To me the ultimate "Pinspot" type lighting effect is the Cameo Q-Spot 40RGBW. It has a 4 degree angle (also has other lenses) and 40 Watts of power so it's much brighter than the Saber Spot. It lights up my mirror ball really well. I also bought an American made mirror ball that has 1 inch tiles. Makes a huge difference. It barely fits on my eliminator MBSK. I also use a K&M white lighting stand that has a square heavy base. Love this setup
Adj has the color gobo go series lights that also has a magnetic base where you could mount it to the bracket of the mirror ball and still adjust the beam to your preference
The effect of the sabre spot looks more classic to me, while the rgb lights look very now. Maybe alternate both during the event? I'm imagining the sabre will look great at night time specially if the dots shine towards the pool water 😊
Alright I get what you mean, lighting a mirrorball is tricky, but I think personally that the apelab thing is to much crazyness. A mirrorball should not be lit by a multi source led fixture because you get more pokedots, because of the light source and personally I like it a lot more if the dots are just nice white. Maybe what you could do is clamp a pipe on to the tripod and then put like the saber spot or something like that on the pipe thats stikking out. Or if you set the mirrorball behind you you can maybe use like a little beam movinghead like the adj pocket beam and shine that on it because that has a small beam angle. At least I wish you good luck. Greetings from the netherlands. Davy Gademan
Hi Brian. With the mirror balls unfortunately you need to get your hand in yer pocket.. I run 2 x 20" m.b but to light it i use 2 x chauvet followspot 120st. Wow studio 54 ain't in it. Sadly i cant put pic on here but if you look on my UA-cam channel you'll find me doing my Motown show. With the 120 on the M.B Cheers buddy love the vids

you need at least 2 LED spots (so the projected dots don't look like donuts) with focusing rings. The stand looks ridiculous, it'e better to spend some time mounting the motor somewhere and placing the spots correctly. The only way to not get an eclipse halo is to not mount too close to a wall
@@villanousspyder405 also over $100 more a piece, that's $800 more if you buy 8 of them. $1200 more if you bought a dozen. That's insane, the only people who have them are the vloggers who get them free. Up lights to me are not worth that much
@@oldschooldjernie I recently bought some Maxis for less than 300$ each. You don't need to pay MAP pricing. I could have gotten them for less if I would have bought them sooner. For some reason they raised the price on the deals.

Okay this is a weak point for me. I get the basics of lighting and that. I feel I lack knowledge on disco 🕺 💃 I assume this is an older crowd? Where would I even begin to dive into knowing what to play.(personally I would not take this contract as it’s a weak point) Make me better. Lol
Brian, how about the ADJ Pinpoint GO? Wouldn't it be a better option? You seemed to like it on your video titled "A Mirror Ball & The ADJ Pinpoint Go" from Aug 6, 2015. ua-cam.com/video/tOGuaEhdHxA/v-deo.html
I don't like it... Fit and finish leaves a lot to be desired on the shape of that unit. They need to make an internally powered mirror ball where all you do is set it up on on a regular tripod or vertical truss. Like DJ Mikey Mike. made.

Awesome video Brian! Great innovation, love my Ape Labs fixtures. The possibilities are endless.

Looks great. I did a disco party in 2019. It was great. Love disco music

where di you get your ball from?

There is no need to reinvent the wheel here. Pinspot.
LED ones with focusing lenses

I like the ape lab. Move the on the floor so that it’s up light pattern feel the other side and eliminates the shadow if necessary
Dont you have those ADJ LED discoballs from a few years back? Starbursts i think they are called
A cheap led flashlight with focusable beam held by a microphone stand can work ok in case there isn't a better solution.
Hi
I have a question, how many revolutions per minute does this ball make in the video?
Hi Brian, is there a source for the mount?
I use moving head lights with Dmx
If you take off the lens on the saber spot doesn’t it go down to 4 or 5 degrees?
Hey B, why not use the Ape Sticks?

I've seen led pinspots on Amazon for under $15 each that may not be that bright but hey $15 lol!
Wow….all those albums….
The rest of the story begins when you see where they want you to set up, and your surroundings. Then and only then you can get the right effect.

I like the Ape Lab Maxi, too bad you dont have a Chauvet Freedom Par Tri 6, it has 3 more LEDs
That would be 2 more. The Maxi is RGBW =4

Get a ADJ STARBURST way nicer
Terrible choice.. awful light

They demanded a mirror ball. That's the problem.
