I had the Johnny Eagle Luitenant set with M-14 and 1911 pistol when they came out , I told my parents that was all I wanted . Funny I end up being a Marine like my father and now my son !
Man I'm jealous, these toys looked awesome. I could only imagine the excitement the children of that time would have when opening something like this up on christmas morning.
The 1911 of is from the Johnny Eagle line. It is indeed from the 60s. They started phasing out toy guns in the 70s. So the 60s were the last big decade. There were three sets in the Johnny Eagle line. A military rifle with the 1911, a Winchester and Colt 45, and a big game hunting rifle with what looked like a Ruger target pistol. They all came with gun racks to hang on the wall.
I had the 1911, it was not a cheap toy. I ended up trading it to the kid across the street for my first GI Joe. That was a big trade, both items were expensive.
The one on the left, my best mate had that one when we were kids. His dad had a West End studio near Hamleys in Regent St, so he got all the cool toys. Never seen one since then, was beginning to think I had imagined it. His one was blue rather than black, but other than that identical.
BROTHER DID THIS BRING BACK good old times!!!! WHEN BOYS WERE LEFT to be boys!! we had the machine gun version as well as the 50 cal tripod version what cool toys!!! just saying
Oh and by the way that one pistol is shaped just like a 1911 pistol .45 caliber . It even works just like one I have the real one from when I was in the NAVY on subs .
Too much PC to have toys like this now days.... I grew up in the 60's and 70's and had these toys... when we moved my mom tossed them or gave them away? At least my dad replaced them with BB guns otherwise I'd still have them.

Why can't they make more toys like these? I know they look realistic but...
The realism is the whole point!
Topper toy company went bankrupt in 1973
A old toys but may be a first models of actuals airsofts, same the Mauser 5.
