Such a beautiful car. Love the lines , just gorgeous. To bad they don’t have the power to match the great looks. Still one of my all time favorite cars.
With your years as a programmer the detail oriented methodology makes sense. That you had the motivation and will to keep going also speaks to a programming background. Not a lot of people would spend even a fraction of the time you've put into this. And you're documenting it for any help it might bring to other enthusiasts. (APPLAUSE)
I agree well done.. It's soooo frustrating when you have an intermittent problem. Mine cuts out after about ten mins, re starts but cuts out.. Going to start off by changing the vacuume lines.. Keep it up, love the vids, looking forward to you giving it a good run out..👍
@@MrToddgibbs Yes mate - badly. I think I have similar issues with the fuel distributor and a problem with the warm up regulator. So your video was very instructional. I think like you I did not spend too much money on the purchase...but
Great video! Impressive problem-solving process. I understand your car already has some patina, but I cringe every time you put a tool on the fenders. I'm also worried about your dangling hoodie ties around the running engine. Seems a bit risky that they could get wrapped up in the fan or belts... Keep up the good work! I learn something from all your videos.
Thanks for the comment John. 3rd person to mention the fenders…. Promise I will protect them now. I was assuming I would respray or replace them but no point denying carelessly. Totally agree about the hoddie/fan…. I noticed it as well
I guess now would be a good time to mention that you can buy brand new injectors and them be defective straight out of the box. Not counting the ones that have bad spray patterns. Yours seem to be ok though just keep that in mind if it starts running weird.
Good job narrowing it down to a single plug. Are those new plugs? If not, I would order a full set. Same with the wires; if those are the spark plug wires it came with I would think they are probably due to be replaced.
@@MrToddgibbs I had the 7 cylinder problem on my 928 at idle, mucked around for weeks then I opened the bonnet at night with the engine running, and there was a tiny spark arcing from the joint of the HT lead to the spark plug rubber boot only visible in the dark. HT leads were thoroughly checked, this was not an obvious failure. New HT leads all round fixed it.
Hello Todd, My M28/09 had a broken Valve Spring on the #8 intake valve and was not trapping compression causing a misfire. I would perform a compression Test in each cylinder to determine if the valves are seating correctly.
I appreciate your endless and passionate videos….and you saved me some time easily looking how things went together!!!….but please use some fender covers…..I cringe every time you plop a tools on aluminum fenders….and think how much more work poor panel beater has to fix for you!! And how much more £ that’s gonna cost ya….but Bravo to you!!!
Hi Scott, thats a fair point. I always ignored it because everything will be resprayed, but dents is a good point. I am still considering replacing both front wings as there are corrosion issues along the top/inside bonnet shut. I'll see what I can do though to ease your pain :)
well done to find, good process of elimination, if you ever get chance to get a cheap oscilloscope it can completely cut to the chase with misfire without removing anything
Kudos to you for your patience in tracking it down. I will say you’re “killing me” setting the tools down on the aluminum fenders!
Thanks David. I’ll see if I can put a protector down :)

@@MrToddgibbs Lol!! If you haven't checked out Jay Read he's another brave Brit tackling a 928 rebuild. Nothing beats Brit wit!

Very impressive systematic approach to identify and fix what could have been a very difficult problem. Bravo!
Thanks George, logic usually works.
If not I reach for a big hammer :)
Well done. Great diagnostic skills and result. You focused right to the problem. I would still be scratching my head.
Thanks Tony, I spent 27 years as a programmer, so its not the first bug I've had to track down :)

Thanks Quemada :) Your problem - have you posted on Rennlist? They are sure to know the solution...
Nice work, how annoying to have a faulty spark plug, but a good cheap fix, superb.
Yeah crazy really, but pleased to track it down
You have inspired me. I have a 1982 4.5 base model, with the wrong wheels....
Hi Robert! Great to hear you have a similar car! Does it run?

Yes good call. Mine do seem fine luckily. Thanks!
Great result.
Thanks John :)
Good work!

Hey Todd! I've just noticed that your bonnet struts are on upside down! The thick end should be at the top, not the bottom.
I’m sure you are here to make me look (more) stupid :)

996 Turbo with X50 and Aerokit. It’s in a few of the older videos
