Thanks you for your comments! I do my best to keep up with them for the first few days after a video comes out, but due to the volume of comments on all of my videos, and to the general hustle and bustle of life, I must give up the fight after a while. If you are leaving a question four or more days after a video comes out I can't guarantee I'll see it, but perhaps one of my other viewers knows the answer and can help out. Thanks in advance to those who contribute and share their knowledge. Cheers and stay safe everyone!

I'm Gen X and a lifelong, year-round rider who's only mode of transport has been a big twin cruiser for well over 30+ years. The sad truth is that we do live in a deeply divided world. I've never owned a Harley because of the bad taste left from when I started riding street bikes back in the early 90s. HD riders were mostly Boomer assholes who looked down on me for my first bike being an 800cc Intruder, because that's what I could afford. Being alienated simply because the bike I could afford wasn't HD resulted in prolonged bullying and literal abuse. I ride year round, I don't own an F-150, or a trailer, and I don't give a damn what you ride so long as you are poking a hole in the wind with your knees in the breeze.
Regardless of where HD culture may be currently, I was never accepted as a "Real Biker" even though I ride Every Damned Day come rain or shine.
There is a legitimate cultural issue of elitism and bigotry within the biker and hobbyist motorcyclist community that needs to be addressed.
Politics aside, we need to close the divide and bring an end to the classism still prevalent between HD riders and non-HD riders.
Whether you are wearing a three-piece cut, an HOG patch, or just an enthusiast, we are all in this together.
Keep the shiny side up brother

Also, the term "Woke" is fuckin meaningless. Seriously, define "Woke". What does it actually mean? It's nothing more than a tired ass buzzword meant to get folks riled up about a bunch of nothin just to keep us fighting amongst ourselves. Simply acknowledging that non-white, non-straight people deserve the same basic rights as everyone else is now, apparently, "Woke". I thought we had moved on from that ignorant shit. My niece is queer, and has been happily married for ten years. Just like any of you would, and rightly so, if you come for my family you gotta go through me first. It ain't "Woke" to say that everyone ought to have the same basic human rights.
The fact this is now somehow "Political" is just plain sad.
Let people live their lives as they see fit. If ain't got nothing to do with you, and when everyone involved are consenting adults, then it's none of our damned business. It's just sad how obsessed some folks are these days with what other folks get up to and how much they want the government to be involved in their personal lives.
Two words that ought to put that into perspective. D.E.A. and A.T.F. Since when are we all so Pro-Cop? Pro-law enforcement? Pro-Government?
Is that not the whole point of biker culture? Just leave us the hell alone!

Gen Xer here and I’ve been riding something with T wheels and a motor for as long as I can remember. Why do you care about the classism between bike riders. Why do you care what HD riders think of you? Your a real biker because you think your a real biker, who cares. You don’t want people to define you don’t let it. Simple. As far as “woke” as a term it is not simply a buzzword. You are not “Woke” if you believe in equality. Equality of opportunity. It’s the people who want to force Equality of Outcome who are “woke” If you don’t know the difference you are ignorant. I don’t care what you do in your bedroom and if that’s all it was me and most of the “deporlables” wouldn’t care but that’s not what they are forcing.. is laws and policies that force me to accept their reality. You think I won’t affect you till your kid wants to cut off body parts at 12 and can do it without your consent simply by telling a teacher. Or your kid can’t get a job because of hiring quotas. Or you loose your job because of outsourcing to countries that hate us and use the money we give them to attack us or peaceful neighboring countries and then the politicians here want to give more of your money and your kids lives to those countries to defend themselves. These are not trivial issues and putting your live and let live head in the sand won’t help when it gets to the point when it eventually affects you. For me and many it’s not about the politics itself it’s about the results seen in everyday living.

I'm from the UK, although I now live in Poland. I used to look down on the changes in political discourse and consider myself above them. Unfortunately while I was doing so, our politics altered to the point where the demographic makeup of the country is being radically changed by mass immigration, equal treatment under law is a thing of the past, Britain now has de facto blasphemy laws, and thousands of people are now in jail for social media posts - and it's all been done by the DEI fellow travellers.

Harley IS DONE, until they show the faithful that THEY will be faithful. If they want to be a builder of cheap ass bikes with stickers on them, like the AMF years, STILL living off the history and mystique of the past, they should continue down this road.
DEI: NO ONE has said, "If you're not like me you can't ride a Harley." In fact riding a Harley will help welcome a minority into a group of riders. Riders want great bikes at good prices. That is all. If Zeitz wants to change the world, he should run for president of a country.
Your take on this is condescending to faithful HD riders. It probably doesn't matter to you what bike you ride. You'll just change to another brand giving no thought to anything other than the price and riding position. HD is important. HD riders are important. Your opinion of them is like paper blowing in the wind.

I do think that the ESG and DEI corporate trends are bad, but that’s because they are trends. I think that requiring companies to be more sustainable, efficient and aware of the externalities and consequences of their business, is good, but I also think that just hoping companies will make the correct choices for the greater good, without being required to by law, is a pipe dream. Companies pursue profit, time for the government to start pursuing quality of life improvements.
I don’t know enough about the real implementation and functionality of DEI programs to make a call on it, but saying companies shouldn’t be concerned about ESG (Environmental Social Governance) is the opposite of what we should be doing. We don’t need corporations to care even LESS about the environment, people and our society.

There was really only a brief era under Willie G (who is now 91 and long retired) where HD was responsive to the customer base. Very well said this was an excellent video. Personally, I find these people that boycotted Harley Davidson, a bunch of hypocrites. They wanted their freedom to ride and their freedom to live the way they want, but they don’t want other people to have that if they’re different than them. I don’t understand why people are so hateful about who others choose to love. The worst part is it doesn’t hurt anybody if two guys are in a relationship or if somebody wants to become trans that’s their choice and they’re not making you have to do it. It just shows that the people that were suckered by this whole thing or a bunch of hateful small minded bigots, and people like that I don’t wanna deal with. I don’t wanna ride with. I don’t wanna be around. I don’t care if my writing person is person I ride with is gay straight, trans. Male female doesn’t matter as long as they’re a good person and I enjoy their company. But there’s so much hate these days directed towards everybody who isn’t a white straight evangelical Christian. America is about a mix of different cultures, different people different views and that’s why this is the best country on earth, have the best of everything but there’s people that wanna take that away and make it a fascist country forcing people to believe what they wanna believe those people are garbage. I prefer to see this is a free country so you’re free to be who you want to do what you want, as long as you’re not harming anybody else but hate harms. I’m Puerto Rican. I’ve dealt with racism from people like this all my life 50 years of being called racial slurs and being treated like I’m less than human by a minority mostly straight evangelical hate mongers, and racist. i’m kind of disappointed and Harley for them caving to this, but it’s there right to do that. It’s a shame that these animals win because they scream even if what they say is trash. The sad part is I’m sure a lot of those people are good people too, but they’ve been tricked their gullible and they’ve been manipulated and don’t even know it. It makes no difference to you and your choice of motorcycle if somebody else is different than you and chooses the same brand to anybody, but these racist homophobic bigots. But I don’t hate them. I just feel sorry for them because they’ve been trained and they’re following enroll that they’ve been put into they never understand how good it is to be kind to other people and to let them live their lives the way they want to. Sad place these days.

A wonderful video! Democracies are tearing themselves apart over "them against us" mentalities. The one thing that kills me is the controversy over where a bike is made. I know Harley promised to only sell bikers in America made in America. However, we all know they have been using foreign parts in their bikes for years. I would be much more upset if, after moving the RevMax bikes to Thai production, they do not lower prices for the U.S. customers. I love Harleys...I have been riding for 46 years and have owned a slew of bikes from all manufacturers, from Aprilia to Yamaha and all the makers in between. There are great bikes being made in many different countries. We are all part of humankind. I love motorcycles and the more folks around the world that ride, the better! Now, as for Harley's problems, they went too far and put themselves in the firing line. I do think the CEO needs to go. He has made too many mistakes, and not just things like DEI, etc., etc. He is totally out of touch with the H-D culture. He needs to pay the price.

A company that survived two world wars, the great depression, AMF, turbulent financial markets should know that business and politics is never a winning strategy. If I had to say just one word about your video it would be Wisdom! 👍
But I have a little more to say.
The Heavenly Blues/Peter Fonda speech on Wild Angels made me remember that in Easy Rider George Hanson (Jack Nicholson's character) explains brillianty to Billy/Dennis Hopper that no one is free if they (their souls) are being bought and sold in the market. And he (Hanson) adds that those who are really free are andangerd by those who aren't.
Didactically, after that "potentially harmful" (to the greedy establishment) explanation the trio (Wyatt/Fonda, Billy/Hopper and Hanson/Nicholson) is attacked by extremists while sleeping near a bonfire on the roadside and the last one ended up beaten to death. Murdered by those extremists.
Regards from Brazil, a country that not in the same level of U.S., I guess, is also having problems related to political radicalism from the right wing and from left wing as well instead of thinking united about how to build a better, sane and balanced place for every citzen.
Maybe the treats to democracy are a symtom of a deeper Western World crisis.
Who knows? Only History will tell.
Meanwhile lets ride until even that little freedom is denied to us.

So I'll offer some hopefully polite thoughts that both align and differ from your perspective:
If this issue is resolved--and it doesn't seem to be from the politically extreme comments and pledges of the CEO--it probably is only so because it was brought to the attention from UA-camrs to the actual grass-roots community and actual Harley riders. I wouldn't blame youtubers too much, even if the rage industry is a real thing. It's a small part of the politicization that was initiated into everyday life, consumerism, and work by the far left.
Ideally there should not be anything political about a motorcycle. I too look forward to a return to this. That might not happen until the EU ceases to disproportionately focus on motorcycle emissions, of all possible tiny things in the midst of behemoth causes of CO2. Unfortunately politics is an adversarial endeavor. One side does not cease it's extremeness until it is just too tired to push for unreasonable compliance.
By the way, the real libertarian position on marriage is why would anyone get government privileges in taxation, criminal due process, or many other areas just because they are recognized in a state sponsored marriage? That goes for anyone of any orientation. Many disadvantaged, disabled, and unfortunate people have never been married through no fault of their own. Saying that one additional group gets those privileges too is a nice gesture, but it has nothing to do with the real libertarian issue.

    • @DifferentSpokesTV
      @DifferentSpokesTV  Місяць тому

Good points. I look at marriage as more of a symbolic commitment of love between two people. I don’t ask for extra rights because I’m married.
