Hi mate I have e a BMW F20 and my Air filter housing is the same as yours but I heard a rattling in my engine when I popped the bonnet and when I pushed down on the box the rattling stopped so something is loose what could it I'm guessing it's a bolt or screw at the top do u have any idea ?
The vibration comes from the air duct on the passenger side. There is a "pipe" from the headlight to the air filter box below. You just have to remove the air filter box and stick felt tape around the fresh air supply. BMW doesn't do it any other way and the vibrations and their noises are gone. Or you buy new rubber grommets that are holding the filter box.
I have a 2010 e88. 218i petrol.. every now and again when driving along it looses power to engine and radio cuts out, then comes back on again and drives fine…. Wtf could the problem be…have recently changed abs sensors and rings and crankshaft sensor.. plz help it’s doin my head in
Well is all about where you drive I use to change them every service about 6 - 8 miles but to be honest they look brand new at the moment is over 20k and still looks very good .
Hi George I have the n47 320d engine is there any way to test the pcv valve I have a couple of oil leaks and I wanted to eliminate the valve Cheers pal
I preach this all the time: change fluids and filters. Runs so much better and uses less fuel. But it doesn´t solve all problems: I discovered a oil leak from the engine on my F11 250d this evening. Sucks....😡
Two years without air filter change? Wow. It's worth stripping it down to clean debris out of the box. Also, I mark the new filter with the date of replacement .
Recently got an m47 engined 320d which has a receipt for a well known tyre chain garage changing the air filter as part of a full service. I highly expect they looked at how much is involved and said nah we'll be leaving that be 😂
George do you have a video.on glow.plug removal for this car? I know yiu have an n47 one but it differe to this engine bay, this one in this video is same as mine 63 plate.120d msport
Due to the low hood design on these, the air box design is terrible. The X3 with the same engine has the air filter on top of the engine and has a much better design. With that said, I rarely replace air filters. Testing shows that the loss in airflow is miniscule and especially on Turbocharged engines, make little to no difference. The EPA looked into air filters and their impact and fuel economy, once again, a dirty air filter had little impact on the MPG. In fact, a dirty air filter filters the air better than a clean one.

George the date on the filter is when it was made. It could have been on a shelf for 6 months before being sold.
Of course👍🏻
Hi,what you can say about M57 engine which is in 335d (e90,e92)? Is the M57 engine reliable?
Finally got rid of my e90 318i ,
Bought an e87 116i noticed it has really slow throttle response and acceleration, still need to service it
what's beneath that tightly sealed box with the heat warning right next to the engine?
Fusebox or ECU
@@GeorgeAusters thanks
What's the pipe/tube underneath the airbox you mention at 4:25?
Think it’s just water drain
@@GeorgeAusters Doesn't it go straight into the intake pipe though?

My 2006 330d owners hand book states 20,000 mile interval. Way too long. Change after 10,000 miles along with oil and filter
Even 10k is stretching it on my opinion

I found mine hadn't been changed for 7 years and about 100,000 miles
Haven’t done mine for 40k miles 😆
I drive a lot and the fuel economy hasn’t budged.
Not good.. Air filters are cheap so doesn’t make sense to not replace it

For peace of mind just replace it mate👍🏻

What causes the oily filter ?

My Bmw1 series I never changed air it's 7 years lol

Hahaha
Come on George don't keep us in suspense, what did happen to the X5?
Haven’t had a chance to look yet as it’s been raining heavy all day here
It should be a Year and the Week of production 🙂

I have your engine in my E91 from Birmingham
@@GeorgeAusters not with you? Sorry
You have the N47D20C engine.. I have the same in my BMW 318d touring
