Same! Most of the time I'd just take a whatever photo of my buddy to get the heart but sometimes I'd put actual effort in and it was fun. Now if I'm in my own house, it doesn't recognise any of my surfaces as flat - including the floor, a desk, and a table. So I can't even take a photo of my buddy at home.
You put a clip of a Mew at the beginning and guess what: Mythical Pokemon encounters with AR are NO LONGER POSSIBLE ANYMORE. They only work with the original AR, not AR+ (except Zarude) Edit: and recently, the second Poipole works with AR+
(I catched my Shiny Mew today and it had the regular background, no option to make it go AR+. Good thing is I could just take a photo of it *after* I catched it)

I just came back to Pokemon GO from a few years' break, and let me tell you, the game is better than when I left. It has only gotten better over the years. In the beginning, AR mode never worked on my phone. Now it works! That's an improvement in my book.
I liked using it, not because I would catch it faster, but because the entire purpose of pokemon go is to have them in the real world. My phone doesnt support ar plus and now the game is alot less interesting.
When i used AR to catch something... It full on crashed my phone, twice and when i say crash i mean it made my phone go to the black screen with the phone logo/build
I'm happy they added better backgrounds. And there's a small chance the pokemon does a small animation upon encounter, which was removed. (or maybe I'm tweaking out)
Hold the berry bag and drag it out a little as you throw the ball, click “Run” and if you caught the mon, it’ll be in your inventory, if you didn’t catch it and broke out. It will still be clickable on the main screen with the avatar walking and you just have to throw another ball to catch it. Speed catching is what I call this especially on community days it comes in very handy.
There is a plus side to the reseting effect, all those annoying pokemon that go off to the side (always the side that de-synergizes with your handedness) now get re centered
I did not know this, I'd been saving up that Celebi quest for years waiting till I was at a nature preserve or something with an abundance of beautiful trees and flowers... only to find out this is no longer a thing. I didn't care about this feature... but it was heartbreaking in that moment, in March when I finally came across the perfect place for Celebi.
This update has really slowed down my spotlight hour. I used to have AR turned on just to shiny check and turn it back on to catch a shiny or decent CP mon. Sadly can no longer do this so am having to linger to check clusters when I'd rather just keep walking. I do like being able to interact with my buddy faster when AR+ settings are turn off though.
Idk if this is just cuz I have a 3 year old phone, but now that they've added different effects in the background of the catching screen, based on what event is currently happening, my framerate for when I'm trying to catch a Mon is so so so slow and AR mode improved the framerate so much. Now that it's gone and the stupid different backgrounds are still there, my frame rate is so slow and changing the settings doesn't do anything at all. So it sucks :/
Instead of removing AR, they should remove the scan pokestop bs bruh it's such a pain and also doesn't work for a decent amount of phones without a 3rd party app.
I feel like catching has been ruined because the ball is so slow compared to my finger when im trying to throw a curveball, and its weird because i traveled to different states it and it worked like before but in the state im from it doesn't

For me it's made petting and taking a picture of my buddy hell since my phone has issues with running AR+. So I literally have to hope the game doesn't crash while taking a picture and petting my buddy. Alongside the new visuals crashing PoGO during day 1 of them being added. It's not as bad now but that was awful also

I loved using AR mode to get cool pictures of catching pokemon in interesting locations. I once found and caught a blastoise near Tower Bridge, I think that was the best pokemon go screenshot I ever had. Never saw another blastoise near there again and since it’s such an iconic landmark too it looked like a scene from an old monster movie

I can't just open it and give him his attention and feed him etc anymore without a flat surface to first put him on wich wastes tons of time and is often not even possible depending on what Imm doing at the time so I now have it turned off

I thought this was a glitch I'm so mad I often play when I'm a passenger of a car and ar mode made it so I could encounter more Pokemon before they despawn but know I end up missing half of the Pokemon that spawn I don't want to know how many shinys I have missed because couldn't encounter them fast enough

i just put together a scrapbook for last year and included pictures hanging out at the dog park with my pup standing next to a wild bulbasaur. bummer that i wouldn’t be able to take more cute pics like that
I would totally be one of the people who would be upset because the AR thing made it more realistic it made you feel like an actual Pokémon trainer, and as somebody who always wanted to live in the world of Pokémon, I loved that feature! But I stopped playing Pokémon go a while ago I’m impatient and getting newer Pokemon took too long.

I'm not personally effected by it's removal, but it is weird they'd remove something that was a part of it's initial marketing.

Turn AR buddy off in the settings and you can feed pet and do whatever with your pet anywhere you want.

Scratch bringing back the Astral Tadpole was the highlight of my day.

It fucked up the buddy system. I don't have time to waste finding my buddy for a buddy heart.
You can turn off buddy AR specifically, it's under the AR options

It takes practice and experience but it’s way faster than having to deal with the camera panning for every encounter on community days.
