      I am a medic, It’s advised we invest in ETF’s and mutual funds until you hit about $50K to 100k, then if you feel like you’ve got a grasp on how to invest in individual securities after that, then branch off and diversify your portfolio further. How ever I have a pro I work with.

    The market itself is unlikely to see the gains of the past 75 years repeated. Over that time the stock market grew 7.6% over inflation. And that required 2% annual productivity growth and a 25-54 year old labor participation rate increase from 65% to 83%.
    Over the past 20 years, we have seen productivity gains of 1.3% and have not seen labor participation increase meaningfully for 35 years. The 4.8% annual returns we have seen over the past 25 years is a reflection of that slower economic growth.
    Unless we see some huge productivity gains from things like AI, stock market returns of 5% will be the new normal. It's still good compared to the last 500-year average, but nowhere near the glory days of the 1900s.

    If markets are so efficient as he says.. why are there profitable stocks at cheap valuations sometimes, at all? Those funds with factor exposure.. aren't they stock picking?

    The question is, how long can you handle underperforming the market? If you’re factors do outperform, but it takes 20 years to see the outperformance, you’ll be miserable and probably will not hang in there. Being a value investor over the last decade has been like getting punched in the face nonstop, without being knocked out.

      Pure math and look at Buffet picks over the years, +60% buys failed or lagged years vs great performers, you're telling me he's a genius? Keep sniffing glue kid. He sold pure bottoms on some of the best stocks in the world, like TSM.

    • @handymanird1632
      @handymanird1632 Місяць тому

      @@user-yq7rr9lh9c no absolutely not pure math (otherwise why so many math genius and most of them didn’t become good investor?). I think … it’s rationality, principle, discipline, wisdom & experience, plus his genius instincts. I personally disagree with TSMC selling and feel the AAPL stake too high. But this is what he follows his principles and decision making framework. High quality decision making may not guarantee good outcome short term, but that’s what makes him and Berkshire so successful for 60 years. My thoughts. The interview in this clip just full of crap

    Individual stock picking does work. Check out the long term results of an advisory service like the Motley Fool. Its picks have crushed the markets, if held and discipline kept.

    He cranks out a book every year or two, advertising a new secret sauce. Swedroe is a DFA factor fanboy, he does not believe that the stock market is efficient. The alleged small cap value has not shown up in many years. Value in general has underperformed Growth in the last few years. Swedroe is comparing DFA and AQR, etc. to Buffett which is absurd. He is just another snake oil salesman.
