Arizona's Volcanic Hotspot

June 4th, 2023: On my journey through Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, I share some information about northern Arizona's San Francisco Volcanic Field. This is an expansive volcanic landscape caused by a geological hotspot beneath the earth's crust. The most recent eruption occurred less than 1,000 years ago at Sunset Crater. Further eruptions are likely to the east of Sunset Crater in the geologically near-future as the North American Plate continues to move westward over the hotspot.
