I totally agree! I was a poor metalhead as a kid, buying random black clothes and boots because I had no money. Now that I have it, my wardrobe can make any version of catwoman jealous, it's a faux leather and latex paradise xD
I’m 30 and the fact that no one stops me from smearing black liner aalllll the way round me eyes is not only intoxicating but also one of the few reasons why I haven’t chilled meself
It's so precious hearing you talk about how the "child you" would have loved this. And the amazing thing about this is that in fact you are nurturing the child version of you that always wanted this. In spirituality the younger version of us has never truly left our souls, it exists within us and everything we experienced or didn't get to experience as children stays with us. So what you did for this video, is actually very healing to your child self!!
Oh my god THANK YOUUUU. Thaaank you for acknowledging the “the younger version has never truly left our souls” cause it’s so true. I try telling people all the time that who you were as a kid is basically who you are. Everything that happened to you in your childhood shapes your personality and has a way bigger effect on you than people think I think. Maybe not this specific thing - the scene/emo phases we had, but u get it lol. But everything U said is v v truuuueeee
i believe the biggest difference in emo and scene is the music. most emo music is like ur typical mcr sounding stuff. but music for scene kids was very electronic, still within the emo range but not exactly that. and the appearance also plays part. emo’s definitely dressed a lot darker, typically had dark hair and dark clothing. but scene kids weren’t afraid to have colorful hair and not only wear dark colors
Scene girls also had drastic layering, leaving the bottom part of their hair super long, with layers to be able to backcomb the shit out of the top of the hair!
I could start to gate keep emo and tell you that McR iS nOt ReAlLy EmO, yOu gOtTa LiStEn tO rItEs Of SpRInG oR CaP'nJaZz but I'm not gonna do that because gate keeping is the devil

This is what I looked like when I met my husband and the father of my kids in early 2011. But instead of pink and purple I was dark green; turquoise and obviously black. My parting was from the top of me ear all the way to the other side and back combed within an inch of its life! He had the biggest septum piercing and had the baggy trousers with all the chains!
i don’t think scene and emo kids ever went away, while most grew out of it i’ve seen many more from my generation trying it out. if anything, its coming back already and i love it
Your scene transformation is SO on point! The striped extensions, the necklaces, the hair clips, the color, down to the clothing - I love it! :D I am 31 now and when I was 16-18 I was such an emo - oh boy! I had striped extensions and way to much jewelry ;)
I'm 25 and this transformation made me smile SO much, I totally get your exitement, I wanted to look exactly the same back then. Actually I did tease and straighten my hair daily for two years or so :D
Same, I used to watch scene girls like Leda monster bunny on youtube and would try to recreate their hairstyles but my haircut wouldn't allow it to look like theirs. I didn't have enough layers to make it look simultaneously poofy and spiky 🥲
Difference between emo and scene: emo usually was your darker, black loos while scene kinda incorporates some of this but also adds pops of color, super loud and extroverted, hyper, etc. Both came from the same broccoli stalk, but just different florets ❤️🥦
I am SO here for bringing back scene and emo fashion. I’m absolutely up for doing custom extensions and stripes for my salon clients and I am so up for all the colour corrections and treatments I’ll get as clients too 😂 But yeah emo was less severe than scene, little bit of fluffy hair with a side part, generally no extensions, loads of eyeliner, more colour, less black, less neon and more skinny jeans, converse and a cute t-shirt, definitely little bead necklaces. At least around where I lived 😂 and scene kids were the ones who took it to the next level and we all secretly simped over them.
When I was 14-17 I actually had scene hair 😂 The hairdresser just gave me so many layers and I couldn‘t really style it correctly. After that I cut my own hair and achieved the hair cut I was going for. Then I had platinum blonde, blue, blue-black and black hair throughout the years. Everyday before school I teased my hair sooo much and I went through so much hairspray bottles. I fried my hair of with so much bleach and straightening I had to pay 300€ at the hairdresser to kind of fix it. It took me like 3 years to outgrow all the layers in my hair. And I was the only girl in my school having such crazy hair but I loved it 😂
bruuh i went to a hairdresser and said i want this hairstyle, she literally just did hairspray on a strand of hair and made it pink, and needed to pay 150 € for this shit
I was scene in High School and yeah, my hair was super damaged 😅 I teased it everyday and sometimes I turned my hair into cat ears with MASSIVE amounts of Göt 2b hairspray. It was fun, but my hair was crying lol
I couldn't straighten my hair without my biological sister giving me the "why" game I did have a friend in high school who was a "scene kid" & I admired her alot because she had the confidence to be herself & not care who said what to her. As an ex scene gurl lemme say you pretty much nailed it Naomi. I used drug store face paint and or eyeliner to put my eyebrows on and drug store extensions too. Such a throwback thinking about how much time I spent teasing and dying and gelling my hair back in the day. I do kinda miss the aggressive colourfulness of it sometimes.
this is the most accurate attempt at the scene look I’ve seen in ages. inspired me to go back to my roots and finally achieve the look I was always going for. thanks, Naomi. LOL
This touched on something so deep for me! I VIVIDLY remember dying my hair wearing a whole eyeshadow trio on my eyelids. And the dry powdered skin! 😂 I can't express how much I loved this video.
I had a strong emo era back in 2009. I cut my hair short, died black, teased the f of them lol. I had piercings and fake tattoos and I was quite popular in school and in my circles on myspace lol. I had the confidence to stand out like no one. I couldn't do this now lol. I'm happy for you though Naomi, enjoy! ✌🏻

I am getting mad flashbacks to this! I was 15 round about the height of the scene style and I had rainbow dyed extensions, dyed my hair like Hayley Williams, and wore A LOT of dream matte mousse and black liner 🤣 those cheapy long beaded necklaces were * the * accessory. Love love love this so much. NOSTALGIA!
I was around the same age. Found myself for a moment thinking „which beaded necklace do they mean?“ and then it hit me. THE ONES THAT LOOKED LIKE CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATION COMING ON A ROLL!
@@linarama2297 yes! The specific beaded necklace was a M O O D. I'm loving seeing all the styles come back now. Seeing a green day tshirt marketed as "vintage" did make me feel old though 😅
THIS IS IT!!!!! It’s literally PERFECT. EXACTLY. GOD THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE I DID TO MY HAIR TEASING IT EVERY DAY. And probably my lungs with the amount of hair spray I used. You would have been the SCENE QUEEN back then. I’m having a bit of a existential crisis. I still love this shit hahaha.
Back in the day about 2008-2010 ish I tried being a scene kid aswell so this makes me nostalgic🤗. Only did so for about 2-3 years though and I wasn't very good at it either 😅. Then I moved on to visual kei/gothic lolita or some mishmash of harajuku styles + some ambiguous general alternative style. Ended up settling on the gothic style, mixing different decades of it (80's for example) into my own amalgamation of goth styles. It's so much fun to play with style and fashion and learning about the history of it. it's refreshing to see too so good on you Naomi for experimenting! Have fun! 🖤💕🖤💕
I was never a scene kid but I was low-key emo around 2006-2008, I did not pull it off lol. Was absolutely obsessed with lolita/kawaii styles later too but never had the money or confidence to invest into actually wearing it myself :') Actually I'm more alternative now than I ever was as a teenager.
I was indeed in this era. However when it was happening I was about 12 so I wasn’t allowed to live my full scene girl experience 😭 this video definitely unlocked a memory for me
I just turned 27 a few days ago but this brought me back to my last year of primary school discovering the scene kid world and bringing me into my high school years!Absolutely living for this, scene never looked so good 😂
I got a bit jealous. The outcome was literally my dreams to never come true. Unfortunately I was already out of school and my friend introduced me with this style and everything scene (also alternative styles in general). I never knew this existed in 2010’s bc I didn’t have computer and none of that time socials but my friend took me to that world and I forever aspire to be a scene gal as that was my undreamed dream and I still love that style (and just about every alt style that lives in my daydreams)
"My only mission was to cover my pimples." Same, girl. Same. 😩😩😩 You look good as a scene chick! I was always too quiet to go full scene even though I wanted to.
This definitely brought back memories of the early 2010s. My older sister was 100% that girl during those times. As always, I love the video, and I can't wait for the music video!
Aaaah! YESSS!!! This is an awesome blast from the past! I had a scene kid phase. I would have kept it into early adulthood, if work places weren't so strict about looking natural. Also, some people would use black mascara, instead of dye, to add stripes to their hair! In high-school, I couldn't go ANYWHERE without my fingerless gloves. Purple skinny jeans were my jam! The only makeup I wore was black eye shadow, black eye liner, and black mascara.
Ohhh I loved this! Brought back so many memories! I used to cut so many girls hair like this with kitchen scissors because I somehow just nailed it haha I’m a hairdresser now so makes sense! Also needed to apply the foundation on your lips and leave it and the striped extensions were called COONTAILS HAHA
I remember showing my mom "MySpace" pictures of girls with coontails and asking her if I could do it at 15 and she said no. But that didn't stop me from trying with black permanent marker. -_- ... Hot topic. Nightmare before Christmas merch & happy bunny. Skinny jeans with ballerina flats.
Currently going through a tough depressive episode and am fed up of feeling shit all the time. Your video has given me a moment to just relax and be content. Love you Naomi x
I wanted to be a scene girl so badly 😅 had the septum piercing, wore black, stripped socks, studded belt and a couple of chains around, hair was impossible to nail. The fringe would just not sit were it needed to.. damn this video woke up all of those feelings. Thanks Naomi, your videos are always cool 😎
Omg I was 17 back in 2006 and this is everything I wanted to be!! 😂😂 You honestly did an amazing job, so spot on that I kept laughing out loud remembering how badly I wanted to look like this and Audrey Kitching etc. Thanks for this incredible throwback!
The diff between them is that Emo was generally darker, lots of black and red, self harm and general shyness. While scene was heavily into music, extrovertion and colour. So nothing huge but still huge at the time.
im going to stop you there and just say no. stop acting like U know what u're talking abt, you look ridiculous. not to mention you sound incredibly ignorant with the selfharm comment. stop feeding the stereotype that emos r whiny wrist slitting crybabies, its irritating and generally offensive to people who actually do self harm
self harming is NOT part of being emo, this narrative is extremely harmful and is why so many young people in the past when emo was at it's peak were cutting themselves for "emo cred"... self harm is not a trend or accessory, it is a serious thing that can end up an addiction
Wow this brings back so so many memories! I was a little to young when scene was a thing. Since I’m born 2000, but I remember seeing my sisters as it and on dayviews and being so shocked and impressed. You look so cute honestly omg. Why do I actually still love this whole fit 😭
my sister and i were both SUPER into scene (and emo) and tbh i miss it from time to time. i do see people now doing scene looks which is always fun! i remember giving my friend a coontail in her bathroom before her birthday party started! i think you pulled this off so well
Girl, I've been watching your content sense you were doing makeup tutorials. It has been amazing watching you grow and become comfortable with just being you. You are absolutely gorgeous both inside and outside. You are a huge inspiration and you bring me so much joy! Thank you for being you! You have an absolutely stunning soul and I feel so lucky to be apart of your journey! Also f**k anyone who comes for you about missing a video, so much goes into being a youtuber much less doing all the extra you do. You do an amazing job, dont let them get you down! Much love beautiful lady 🖤 (Also I can't wait for your new song!!! And this style was absolutely me in 2010 just purple not pink 🤣 this brought me back, so thanks for that!)
Naomi this video was the best, totally took me back! I also brought in almost the same picture to the hair dresser and just came out with some subtle layers 😂 I was emo instead of scene but not all the way bc my hair is curly so I just wore really thick black liner, a bunch of bracelets, thin brows, and all black all the time lol
I don't know if you're going to read this, but you've helped me through dark times. I've been following you since day one. I always look for your videos when I'm feeling low. You really do entertain my soul and make me laugh every time I watch one of your uploads. I even do sometimes watch some of them again when there isn't a new video. Just wanted to say thank you so much for being you and may you have a wonderful day .
omg i remember wanting to look like this so much when i was in high school, u going on about the maybelline matte mousse brought me back to my first forays into makeup, it was so badddd i love it. i remember i used to only wear eyeliner and mascara, but like, the eyeliner was super blended into a smoky eye, it was a LOOK i swear
I remember when back in the day I’d watch all these scene hair tutorials on UA-cam and loving them, so now, in my mid twenties, watching one of my fav UA-camrs do a scene makeover is so full circle and my brain is so happy 🌸🖤 go on scene queeeeeen
Holy shit, you just showed my dream aesthetic from when I was 14-17 😂 My side part just became gradually deeper over time and I had red hair. Pretty sure I didn't see out of my right eye for three years because it was permanently covered by my fringe. The tiny black pencil eyeliner was my lifeline ahahaha maybeline dream matte mousse and black eyeshadow applied with the index finger for special occasions 💀
I'm really proud of you Naomi! You've definitely inspired me to just have fun and not be afraid to try things!! So thank you for posting videos here for us to see and releasing your music! You are doing really well despite everything in your way! Fighting!
Glad to know that going into a random hairdresser who never ever did alternative cuts or colour to get an emo haircut with huge disappointment, was a common experience
Wowwww! Absolutely love it!!! Definitely the vibe, always wanted to have this look in middle school but I couldn't dye my hair so it was mostly just the outfits for me 🤣 you should do a modern version of scene and see what you come up with! 😱
Love it. Same experience. I went to the salon and it was nothing like the scene queen look I was going for. Damaged the crap out of my hair teasing. Hell nah, I will never do that to my hair again. But this look is fire. I have been wanting to do this again, but with a wig this time.🤣 especially since I never got the full look down. Well I was young then and broke.
This video speaks to my hormone plagued, insecure teenager heart. This was goals for me back then, but neither my parents nor my confidence allowed me to become the beautiful bustling scenegirl butterfly that you transformed into today. SLAY.
Omg this is my high-school life!!! I've wanted to do exactly this for so long. You have inspired me. ALSO, from my understanding emo was before and was more of a mood than a style. The mood was emo (emotional) so just essentially dark and miserable. Scene was more of an introduction of color and funky style. Emo wanted to fade away and scene wanted to stand out... if that makes any sense

NOSTALGIA!
see also : SKINNY SCARVES.
I feel so “seen” that someone is recreating my daily look from high school 😂 Love it!
Was absolutely obsessed with lolita/kawaii styles later too but never had the money or confidence to invest into actually wearing it myself :')
Actually I'm more alternative now than I ever was as a teenager.
I was indeed in this era. However when it was happening I was about 12 so I wasn’t allowed to live my full scene girl experience 😭 this video definitely unlocked a memory for me
OMG took me straight back to high school. Had the makeup down but could never get the hair scene/emo down to it's full level of chaos. Love this!!!
My husband is over here cracking up at you singing. Love it. I was very emo in highschool lol. Love this video.
oh. my. god. I WAS DEFINIETLY NOT EXPECTING THIS
I just turned 27 a few days ago but this brought me back to my last year of primary school discovering the scene kid world and bringing me into my high school years!Absolutely living for this, scene never looked so good 😂
Girl, that looks so real! The hair is 100% accurate XD
Love how you present so many personalities... That are all you! All unique and fabulous.
We’ll support you no matter what!!! Good luck on all your music and channel! We love you 🥺
"My only mission was to cover my pimples." Same, girl. Same. 😩😩😩 You look good as a scene chick! I was always too quiet to go full scene even though I wanted to.
😂 Same- how many anti-bacterial cover sticks I went through- literally hundreds!
@@Lola-AreaCode212 omfg same but they didn't help at all lol
Naomi can LITERALLY pull of everything ! She look SO GOOD
You did not disappoint!!! I always wanted to have scene hair too but it was too curly so I’m living vicariously through you ♥️😍
Girl take your time, your fans support you and your dreams. Your last song was a banger!!
Sending you some love ❤️
I'm drowning in this pool of adolescent nostalgia I mean the look, the music, myspace, rawr 😂😂😂😂😂
Audrey Kitching… the memories that are coming up in this comment section are on another level…
bruh I was -1 in 2006, I feel so young
The diff between them is that Emo was generally darker, lots of black and red, self harm and general shyness.
While scene was heavily into music, extrovertion and colour.
So nothing huge but still huge at the time.
Like twins. But opposite personalities
I think that's a bit unfair to say that Emo is self harm. Yes some people who are Emo self harm but to classify everyone under that is not true
im going to stop you there and just say no. stop acting like U know what u're talking abt, you look ridiculous. not to mention you sound incredibly ignorant with the selfharm comment. stop feeding the stereotype that emos r whiny wrist slitting crybabies, its irritating and generally offensive to people who actually do self harm
self harming is NOT part of being emo, this narrative is extremely harmful and is why so many young people in the past when emo was at it's peak were cutting themselves for "emo cred"... self harm is not a trend or accessory, it is a serious thing that can end up an addiction
"self harm" bro what??
Wow this brings back so so many memories!
I was a little to young when scene was a thing. Since I’m born 2000, but I remember seeing my sisters as it and on dayviews and being so shocked and impressed. You look so cute honestly omg. Why do I actually still love this whole fit 😭
This is so well done!!! She got everything spot on, bought back so many memories lol I had those coloured fishnet gloves & the beaded necklaces 😂
Omg Naomi, you are absolutely glowing in this look! Gurl you were born for this! 😍😍😍
my sister and i were both SUPER into scene (and emo) and tbh i miss it from time to time. i do see people now doing scene looks which is always fun! i remember giving my friend a coontail in her bathroom before her birthday party started! i think you pulled this off so well
Girl, I've been watching your content sense you were doing makeup tutorials. Much love beautiful lady 🖤
(Also I can't wait for your new song!!! And this style was absolutely me in 2010 just purple not pink 🤣 this brought me back, so thanks for that!)
This is by far one of the best UA-cam videos I’ve watched this year. Bring this back 😩!!!
Naomi this video was the best, totally took me back! I also brought in almost the same picture to the hair dresser and just came out with some subtle layers 😂 I was emo instead of scene but not all the way bc my hair is curly so I just wore really thick black liner, a bunch of bracelets, thin brows, and all black all the time lol
take your time Naomi! We’re okay with waiting for everything that makes you happier :)
btw, thanks for getting those amazing icq vibes! :’D
OH MY GOD THAT'S A DREAM COME TRUE
omg i remember wanting to look like this so much when i was in high school, u going on about the maybelline matte mousse brought me back to my first forays into makeup, it was so badddd i love it. i remember i used to only wear eyeliner and mascara, but like, the eyeliner was super blended into a smoky eye, it was a LOOK i swear
ugh highlight of my week when u upload xx
I remember when back in the day I’d watch all these scene hair tutorials on UA-cam and loving them, so now, in my mid twenties, watching one of my fav UA-camrs do a scene makeover is so full circle and my brain is so happy 🌸🖤 go on scene queeeeeen
Yes Naomi! Take me back to my youth! Those camera angles really got me, sooo perfect! Rawr xb
i also never got to fully live out my scene fantasy (strict dress code), so i’m vicariously doing it through this video 😝😝 you did so good!!
This gave my inner scene teen so much joy, I would have given anything to look like this!
i think Naomi looks STUNNING as an emo scene Queen just saying
I waited soo long for this video because you talkes about it so much on insta thx i love your videos
This is actually how i became a hairdresser 😂 i started doing my own hair as a scene kid because no one could get my hair right
i always did this black kajal thing directly on my waterlines so that the lashes seem to be more full
I am 27 and I absolutely feeling this look! Always loved the looked as well :D
naomi you're literally living my teenage DREAM girl you did the scene look SO WELLLLL
This literally was it. 😂 Absolutely nailed it
naomi! you make me feel more confident to be myself, i love your makeup and different types of coloured hair. thank you :))
Me at 13 years old “searching *how to be scene* *scene girl makeup tutorials* on UA-cam” life has come full circle 😂
She looks amazing like this. I hope that she keeps this look forever more.
😍😩I love her so much ❤️I literally never miss her videos.
This video speaks to my hormone plagued, insecure teenager heart. This was goals for me back then, but neither my parents nor my confidence allowed me to become the beautiful bustling scenegirl butterfly that you transformed into today. SLAY.
I loved this so much😂🖤💗
Omg this is my high-school life!!! I've wanted to do exactly this for so long. You have inspired me. ALSO, from my understanding emo was before and was more of a mood than a style. The mood was emo (emotional) so just essentially dark and miserable. Scene was more of an introduction of color and funky style. Emo wanted to fade away and scene wanted to stand out... if that makes any sense
lmao the last sentence reminded me of that picture going around back then that said something like "we dont blend in, we make a SCENE"
me too, I really wanted to dress up like this since high school!
I was as "scene" as I could be without dyeing my hair cause my mom wouldn't let me, but man I served some pink and green eyeshadow looks.
*discovered Naomi 2 weeks ago and now binging entire channel. After this video i love you even more 🥰
why do u look so good at everything naomi
The only thing you were missing was covering your lips with foundation and just leaving it like that 😂. Scene queen Naomi.
I am SO ready for more music. I listen to your two songs every single day!!!! If you count the acoustic version then 3!
these videos always make my day. love you naomi
Love the long videos idea, don't worry about missing a sunday here and there!
