One thing I've learned about depression is,, if u suffer from depression don't listen to depressing music..
If you want a better life than be better, u gotta put into the world that of which you wish to recieve. Want love, respect, dignity,, start with yourself. If you don't love, respect yourself than don't expect anyone else to. If you want a happier life,,become helpful.. to do good feels good.. think for yourself, speak for yourself,, be yourself.. theres only one of you in this world so stay true to yourself. Pay no mind to judgmental opinions of others, most opinions are like assholes, they stink.. if everything consists of matter, if you're here, you matter. Be the hero of your own story, like you're ment to,, a code , creedo, motto,,, multiple if u want. Something simple that allows you to look yourself in the eye tha mirror each morning & able to get to sleepea night.. one of mine "cause no harm but take no shit.. cuz tho we're all the hero of our own stories ...in someone elses,, we're the villain... keep yourself accountable,, learn to say no, set boundaries..take chances, don't be afraid to fail. The only way u fail is not to try.. if it's good pay it forward, if it's not grill it and kill. Get yourself/house in order, start living right & the right ppl will come into your life.. and the wrong
ones will leaven.. assessing constantly, progress continually, rate of speed of your progression, N/A for you are not...I am not in competition with, & don't compare myself to anyone, except who I was yesterday.... likewise don't compete for or chase anyone. Women or for any one else's time & or affections.... whatever you do in this life, do it for you. Can't make everyone happy so best start with oneself. Become content and go from there..
Rambles over, over and out, bonne chance, bon nuit,, adieux from a deud.

It is quite sad and indeed telling a lot about us. I come from India, and for me growing up as a millennial, traveling outside India was like a dream, next to impossible. Today, I am married to a beautiful woman, I have been to Dubai (lived there rather), lived in London, lived in Taiwan and basically lived across the entirety of India. But, I have bipolar disorder. Once I (or my family) reached a state of comfortable life, our priorities turned upside down. Today, my wife and I are deeply scared of bringing another life in this world. We have more than we could ever ask for and yet we feel we dont have enough to support our baby. We have become paralyzed by our comfort.

  • @highestsettings

Yeah and watching films is a substitute for not being able to watch Alan Rickman fall out of the window at the top of Nakatomi Plaza in real life.
Or maybe I just enjoy watching Alan Rickman play a character who falls out of the window at the top of Nakatomi Plaza. And likewise, maybe I just enjoy playing games. People who enjoy media as a form of escapism have ruined media, because now you can't just enjoy anything without people thinking that you're running away from your problems. That's only true for a very small subset of people. There's more to art and media than just being training wheels for life. Its not purely functional, there's something else there. I'm an independent professional musician, but I do a lot more things to make money than just perform I have to wear a lot of hats in fact, so in reality I run a business and I'm the product. But that doesn't mean I don't want to play business simulator games. I'm not thinking "this is a replacement for running a real business and living a real life", I'm enjoying playing with the mechanics and the challenge of being the best at the game. Its like saying people only play Call of Duty because they really want to go to war. No I love playing Call of Duty, but I really really don't want to go to war and even if I did there's absolutely no comparison anyway.
Men are running away from life because there's very little incentive to engage with a society that doesn't respect, value, or reward them for doing so and in fact actually punishes them. People should do it for themselves, but its not so easy to see or even want that when the result of building a life worth living doesn't appear until you've put in 10-20 years of effort and created that life for yourself. Most people in my generation won't own their own home until they're 40 or 50, if at all. 30% of my generation are single, and that percentage is growing. We are looking at a future where so many people are childless, lonely, and won't even get the pleasure of owning our own home, and certainly won't have enough money to retire, and to top it all off you have women saying they won't date anyone unless they're 7', a millionaire and have the looks of Brad Pitt, whilst labelling any man attempting to achieve that as toxic.
Our society has systematically DESTROYED the very notion of what masculinity even is whilst also removing all forms of opportunity for success, and we wonder why men don't want to do anything anymore? Stop redirecting the blame away from what's really happening.

3:14 the Maslow illustration is interesting. By not having the base of the pyramid figured out, it created a greater sense of individual purpose and identity, but it also fostered greater cooperation for survival. Now, most societies have guaranteed basic human needs, causing a detachment from the group and promoting individualism and a lack of cohesion within society. Interestingly enough, more people than ever feel lost and hopeless. 🤯

Don't put too much emphasis on being a "real man". Emphasize being the best version of yourself instead and stay true to yourself regardless of what anybody else thinks. There's no such thing as a "real man", only the real you. Being a stereotype won't make you happy, it will just make you even more confused. It's easy to say, "you can change that". But when wages are a fifth of what they were 50 years ago and housing is five times more expensive than 50 years ago due to inflation, it is almost impossible to change. The average worker's wage for the week is often less than the poverty line. Notice I said worker, not someone unemployed. If you are working you should at least be able to buy basic essentials like housing, food, utilities, education, transport, medical and entertainment (recognized as a basic need by the UN human rights (no, I am not talking about a personal yacht. Just a TV, local library or sports equipment)).
You are a funny man, but you clearly know nothing about economics or social structures

It’s at 5:35 - where he lets it slip ‘……..and it is good….’ Living in the land of milk and honey
Because we have centralized money as the only variable that means anything - like corn is the only crop we should ever grow - we just have to figure out how to make everything out of corn! Money is the god, goddess, the key, the solution…….and the cause of a ton of problems. The only thing that separates you, and me, from Jimmy is that he is a multi millionaire>……………and you’re not!
Statistically speaking you will also never be a millionaire, the odds are against you - but as critics will say - you have to be in it to win it - but if the lottery has taught us anything - most people are losers ??? And I have to disagree with that!
We have to stop our addiction to money, take away its power somehow and start valuing our humanity, skill, abilities adaptability and perfection. If money is our only metric then we will be berated by economic addicts that have no place in power, or critiquing the system that they have benefitted from.

Yeh gotta be clever, bold, and observant to make a real living as a stand-up comedian. So it's not surprising that once established, many of the best become excellent commentators on modern society. I won't say that I want any one comic writing policy papers, and I'm doubtful any one of them would like to do so, but they have an inside track on revealing ourselves to us.

I am 63 I live in Australia… I have been diving in the ocean all my adult life and even now still go spearfishing in open ocean every week and come home with a stunning catches of seafood. I love my life. Jimmy Carr’s words couldn’t be more true. Life is to be lived. It is short and precious. Bad choices results in bad outcomes… actions have consequences. Some fear dying Some fear living.

My advice to anyone is to pick up the Bible and read Matthew, listen to the teachings of Jesus and understand that good things come for good deeds, you don't need to know why or how, you only need to know what to do. Jimmy nailed it perfectly. Too many Christians try to tell the gentiles to believe in Jesus, instead they should be showing them what he stood for.
Our comfortable society is falling apart because we all go 'not my job' 'the council will sort that' etc and the reality is, no one's coming to save you. We can't all sit about and expect the world to run itself, or become better by itself.

This is only one small part of the equation, but it is one of the easy to articulate components of it, and one that most people do not think about often enough.
On the theme of philosophy, I'd like for people to ask themselves three questions:
    Who are you?
    What do you want?
    Where are you going?

I agree with him, but I think he tells half of the story from a position of privilege.
If you do great in your career, love life or in any field you do not understand what it takes to move from the problem to something better, to find what really works for people that actually have the problems you need to listen from people that walked that path, there are some out there and youtube has given them a voice, that is good. It’s Milei in Argentina, the selfmade people, the rags to riches or the fat to fit stories, that’s the other half.

Not sure that religion argument really works: the idea that coming together is "a good thing about religion", and that other things are therefore proxies for religion.
If the coming together is the good bit, as he said (and I'd be inclined to agree), that means that religion is a proxy for pure, for-its-own-sake togetherness, not that other promoters of togetherness are proxies for religion.

Read "Amusing Ourselves To Death." The author posits that George Orwell was wrong. Authoritarians won't prevent us from living full lives. Aldus Huxley, in his novel "Brave New World" WAS correct in that our obsession with pleasure will cause us to "amuse ourselves to death" and live meaningless hedonistic lives. Good book.

I like JImmy Carr, but his logic is flawed. People come together for various reasons, both good and bad. Having the power to "bring people together" does not make an institution or idea good. The cost of coming together religiously is higher than its benefits. I would propose that a person of low intelligence (an idiot) is one that accepts propositions with no evidence or warrant. This is precisely what religion expects of its adherents. If one dismisses a proposition out of ignorance then perhaps they too are an idiot?

What is your obsessions with video games? Have you ever got into one? It's pure entertainment. That does not necessarily mean that people are not living in their reality. Not everyone's reality is as priviledged as yours to make those insinuations. I know many older folk who still play games because all there is to do is go out and drink in order to socialize. For me, it's the crime in my country.
