Brian Clough, the best manager England should have had,but because he was a straight talker, the FA never gave him a chance to show his style. RIP a true giant of English football
@PaulRay-r3f I always think England could have been a lot more successful with a Brian Clough in charge 🤔 other than the World Cup in 1966. The FA have always cherry-picked managers that suit their style and a yes man
Brian Clough would be delighted to see how well Nottingham Forest are performing this season. Even though they lost yesterday to Bournemouth. I think they have massively exceeded expectations, and it's refreshing to see teams like Forest upsetting the apple cart and beating the "big" Teams. Rip 🙏 to a truly great British football manager. To win the European Cup twice back to back in 1979 and 1980 is extraordinary
What made those European Cup wins even more extraordinary was when Clough and Taylor arrived at Nottingham Forest in 1975, the club was in the old second division. For better or worse, the game has changed and I doubt that feat will be repeated. Clough's final game in charge of Nottingham Forest was against Ipswich Town at Portman Road, and I am proud to say that I was there.
@geoffpoole483 Yes, absolutely, I love watching back games from them, eras, even the state of the pitches made it feel raw and old school. Football was more enjoyable than it is nowadays and the players actually cared about their clubs unlike you get in today's messed up society
Enjoyed this. I live very near the church. I met Brian once, he asked me if I had any children and I said no. He said get some - it’s the best thing you will do!
What a legend Brian was still love listening to stories about him from ex professionals and watching him being interviewed brilliant. The greatest England manager there NEVER was. All because he wasn't a yes man. Thanks Paul it's always a pleasure again thanks for all you do for us all 👍🍻
As a die hard Derby fan, (female) and a teenager when Cloughie left Derby I admit I cried when he left!! My older sister said I was mad and I'd grow out of football!! I'm 66, she is still waiting!! Derby 'til I die. Rip Mr Clough, who was always a Derby fan through and through!!
Many years ago, when i was a apprentice carpet fitter, me and my boss went to cloughies house when he lived in derby, to fit a bedroom carpet, his wife was one of the nicest people you could have met , when we had finished, Brian came home went upstairs to inspect what we had done came back downstairs with a big grin on his face and gave me and my mate £ 5 each , bearing in mind i got paid £4, 10 shillings a week i was gobsmacked, what a guy ,😁👍
i remember a pitch invasion. he got hold of one of them and clipped them round the ear. proper old school. called a spade a spade. thanks paul. what a nice frosty sunny morning there.🙏🙏☝
Yes i was there that night in the away end, Forest beat my team QPR 5-2 in a league cup match and Forest fans just celebrating, a short time later Cloughie made up with the fan on tv, brilliant manager.
I am not a football fan but my husband always said what a great manager he was and he liked his straight talking. Whatever you think of him he well deserves a mention. Thank you Paul.
Thanks Paul, this was great. We could do with Brian again!! Loved his final comment, " I answer the questions, if you don't like the answer, that's your problem". Priceless. Lovely location too. 😄
Thanks Paul I’m not a great football fan but what I loved about Brian clough was his no nonsense opinions so straight to the point I admire that true honesty rip Brian ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻😊
I'm currently reading "Be Good, Love Brian" which is about how Brian and his family family took 2 boys from Sunderland into their home. It shows a really caring side to Cloughie. Definitely worth a read.
Hi ya Paul I'm a massive Nottingham Forest supporter ,comes from being born in Nottingham I guess but I'm on the other side of the world now in Invercargill New Zealand, once Forest always Forest ,was great to see ole bigheads last resting place , FTID cheers Andy
When you consider Cough said the 3 greatest Mananers were Busby, Shankly and Steini shows how good his judgement was, brilliant video as always. Douglas J A Roxburgh MBE.
Great character, from my home town, born on the same street as him. Lovely bronze statue of him in the local park with his boots slung over his shoulder. It's situated on the path he took to get to Ayresome park football ground
The best English manager we never had ...we could have won the World cup with him in charge....he took a Football club Nottingham forest from the bottom of of DIV 1 and then into the Premier League and into Europe ..the only manger ever to do this ....a sad sad loss to football..
This is a video I've really been waiting for, a great tribute to a legend being a derby fan not old enough to experience him but as long as we have videos and clips to relieve his achievements and memories as well as the film the damned united thanks Paul ❤ up the rams 🐏
I am so glad you did a video on Brian Clough he was talented and great person in football and manger for a great football team Nottingham forest Paul what a great video again take care look forward to your next one
Derby County and Nottingham Forest Legend🐏🌳 Remembered Fondly in these parts. Thanks for doing this one Paul and good to see you back in Derbyshire. Love your channel 👌🏻
One incredible manager who got the best out of players. One incredible character and one incredible human being. Thanks for the memories Brian from a Claret
Clough was born in Middlesbrough, North Riding of Yorkshire..His main ambition was to play cricket for Yorkshire CCC..He was a good manager only when he worked with Peter Taylor..On is own he was a loose cannon..Had he come to Elland Road with Peter Taylor in 1974 I believe it would have been a different story altogether..RIP Cloughie.
As usual you showed the uttermost respect . Love the way you mentioned Brian's Wife Barbera . And the last remark about them being together was very touching and heart felt.
Just watched it and shocked to learn that I shared the same birthday 21st of March As Brian,he would have been exactly 41 years older than me….. what a surprise, chuffed and honoured…. Thanks Paul for the great video
Superb great player for us until he broke his leg in Dec 62. Greatest manager England never had, and he was right about Revie. Many thanks, Still miss Cloughie. Thanks.
I remember him so well even though I'm not into football couldn't help it he was everywhere lol. Lovely church and grounds. Thanks for sharing love from Holmfirth West Yorkshire 💜 🫰
Mir war er nicht bekannt, schade. Er war grandios und erfolgreich gewesen für sein Land wie du berichten konntest. Nun habe ich auch von ihm erfahren. Dankeschön Paul 👍🏻
He achieved an awful lot with some unfashionable teams ! He was a great character and loved the game through and through ! The best of his generation ! A good man too !
Loved this video loved watching Brian Clough and thought his comments were very funny but he had a serious side when it came to football. The man was sorry is a legend and what a successful Manager he was.
Hi Paul !. I'm very pleased you're featuring Brian, ( Cloughie ) in your review, he was manager of hartlepool utd in the mid 60s and team did quite well? Somethings gone desperately wrong since then (joke) his teeside accent was widely impersoñated all the best John
I know Brian didn't have the best time at the club i support but what a great straight talking man who should have been the England Manager. A Legend in football R.I.P Brian.
Old "bighead" played his last game for my club sunderland. He was a great but strange manager, can you imagine brian trying to live in a woke world. Thanks for paying our respect Paul.
Brilliant man straight no nonsense talking that a lot of people on authority didn’t want to hear imagine him nowadays. He should have been England manager instead we got Don Revie and Ron Greenwood who played boring pass the ball back football we didn’t qualify for the World or European Cup Finals for over 10 years as a result. Great video Paul as usual. AFC Bournemouth fan.
Thanks for this one Paul it’s great that you chose the greatest manager my club ever had (Nottingham Forest)and the best manager England never had. I hope you do Peter Taylor as well as he was born in the meadows in Nottingham.
Nice find...found him very strange growing up in the late 70's as being an Ipswich fan and we had gentleman Sir Booby Robson as a manager, but as time has gone by there's no doubt one of the managerial legends of the game.
Brian Clough, the best manager England should have had,but because he was a straight talker, the FA never gave him a chance to show his style. RIP a true giant of English football

Totally true...polar opposite to a 'yes man' Gareth Southgate of today.
Didn't Clough take a bung.
Agreed 100%!😊
He was a brilliant manager called a spade a spade RIP ❤

Thanks Paul for a great episode. Legend of a manager. Didn’t realise his fantastic career which was cut short. Only two caps for an England???
Brian’s sons Nigel and Simon both work at Mansfield Town Football club.
Nigel is the manager and Simon works on transfers for the club
Didn’t he once say about one of his players - “ He’s got the speed of a racehorse, strength of a carthorse and the brains of a rocking horse 🐴 “ 🤣
Haha brilliant xx
😂😂
Cloughs famous quote. “It only takes a second to score a goal” how right he was
As a die hard Derby fan, (female) and a teenager when Cloughie left Derby I admit I cried when he left!! My older sister said I was mad and I'd grow out of football!! I'm 66, she is still waiting!! Derby 'til I die. Rip Mr Clough, who was always a Derby fan through and through!!
