Hi! I’m a participant in the ultra-niche competition “coffee in good spirits.” It’s a coffee cocktail competition put on through the s.c.a. I got to compete in it and one of my favorite drinks I had was a riff on a penicillin. It uses all the normal base ingredients, but adds two ounces of iced coffee, an ounce of orange liqueur, and two ounces of sparkling water. Give it a shot some time.

I used to use Kahlua all the time for my espresso martinis, but then I started seeing multiple mixologists using this coffee liquor, and daaaamnnnn what a game changer. Especially if you like coffee.
So this might be off-topic for this video. But dude, Greg. Because of all your talking up about Smith & Cross in your Rum videos, I finally got a bottle. That caramelized banana aftertaste I get from it is just *chef kiss*
Just stumbled upon this, I have to say these sounds great and I love the slight slow-mo for the pours and the fact that he spills all over the place. It adds a more organic feel to the pouring rather than a "clean" pour which can seem doctored and less relatable for the average person. Great Job! Will definitely have to try some of these!
Yes Greg! Get that Australian sponsor money 🤑 There’s an Australian bar called The Everleigh that does a spin on the cocktail ‘Coffee House’ by replacing rye with Tequila, and using Mr Black as the coffee liqueur. Somewhat like your old fashioned here but rejigged ratios so it’s 2:1 tequila to Mr Black, absolutely delicious stuff that I recommend trying!
The chiapparoni is fantastic. Ramazzoti works well for the amaro part. Using a local coffee liqueur. I've tried it with both lemon and orange, and the orange definitely has something a little extra. 0.25oz of Tuaca adds a nice little vanilla note as well!
I know I'm late to the party but BOTH of your drinks are fantastic! Chiapparoni tastes like an Italian mocha and next time I build it I'm going to try with a lemon twist for the classic prep. BMK is my favorite, the blanc and coffee go SO WELL together. Well done sir.

Coffee and orange comes up a lot this episode, and I love coffee and oranges, have since I read Wallace Steven's poem Sunday Morning which begins "complacencies of the peignoir, and late coffee and oranges in a sunny chair"
Mr Black is fantastic stuff. 100% Arabica got my attention but I had my doubts until I tasted it! Love it with Tonic too. Wont be going back to kahlua!
Lubs me some Mr. Black. I like coffee, but always drink it black. Most cocktail recipes that call for Kahlua seem way to sweet for me. Mr. Black fits the bill just right. First started using it in Espresso Martinis.
If you're into espresso, I highly recommend putting a small twist of orange peel in there. The bitter citrus oils from the rind really play up the flavors of the coffee... and if you like coffee and amaro, check out James Hoffman's youtube channel- he gives a recipe and instructions of making a coffee infused amaro that's delicious (I also drink that on ice with a twist of orange).
I had been working on my own version of this for a while! Was about to tweet my mix at you when I tried a less sweet version. I added .75 oz simple syrup and was going to try it with just .5 oz this evening! Excited to try your varient and the other mixes with Mr. Black since I love it but really only had one drink for it.
Thanks for the video. I made a drink with the Mr. Black I really like that I call "The Dark Between Stars" 2oz. Mr. Black (Or Jagermeister Cold Brew if you like a more botanical flavor.) 1oz. of Bourbon 3-4 Pumps of Torani Chocolate Syrup 10-12oz. of your favorite Cold Brew Coffee (I like Stok.) Directions: Pour everything into a tumbler with a big chunk of ice roughly the size of a good whiskey rock and stir.
Wow, a year since the last comment (just now getting to this episode). About the "Chiapparoni": I have to agree, you really did create something special here. I've just made one at home making some substitutions based on the fact that I haven't yet been able to get my hands on a bottle of Amaro Angostura, and keeping it equal parts more like a true Negroni (specs to follow). Even with substitutions, the brilliance of the concept comes through, the tequila being an inspired choice that just works. Thank you for creating it; it's now going to be one of my go-to coffee cocktails. Bravo! 3/4oz Amaro Ramazzotti 3/4oz Mr. Black 3/4oz Reposado Tequila 3 dashes Angostura Bitters 2 dashes Chocolate Bitters Stirred. Over rocks, rocks glass.

Oh this is exciting. I just got three new espresso roasts
Well, Tequila is a type of mezcal and cafe con mezcal drinks are a pretty popular combination in southern Mexico. So, it's a classic combination and I can just imagine how good these taste.
To be able to participate in Coffee In Good Spirits has been a life goal of mine for a couple years now!
Great comp!
I played with your slurm recipe and found
1oz Titos vodka
1oz Midori
1/2 oz agwa
1/2 oz lime juice
Shaken on ice
5oz mtn dew
Really does the trick for me
I believe the drink should be called
Greg's No Knife Complement
I actually added a mocha old fashioned to my happy hour menu, so I was excited to see it done another way. These drinks look really good!
Since he got sponsored he really be spilling the booze today
It should be some type of war crime that the Chiapparoni hasn't gotten world wide attention as the new trend drink. It's truly outstanding.
You have been talking about Mr. Black for a while... you finally got me I just ordered my very first bottle, I hope is better than Khalua.
It's less sweet.
Legend.
I used to use Kahlua all the time for my espresso martinis, but then I started seeing multiple mixologists using this coffee liquor, and daaaamnnnn what a game changer. Especially if you like coffee.
You're telling me they missed the opportunity to call it a "Cold Fashioned"?
The amount of spills in this episode is great!
The second cocktail should be called the “reservoir dog”because Of the Mr black reference, or “the Tarantino”
So this might be off-topic for this video. But dude, Greg. Because of all your talking up about Smith & Cross in your Rum videos, I finally got a bottle. ONE liquor store in my area started carrying it a week ago, and where I live you can't have booze delivered. Lemme tell ya. Not disappointed AT ALL. Thank you for exposing me to this wonderful rum! That caramelized banana aftertaste I get from it is just *chef kiss*
i despise coffee, yet here i am
Captain Kathryn Janeway is displeased.
Same, he’s just so much fun to watch!
"the orange chocolate sphere" its a chocolate orangggggge
Orange and coffee is an amazing combination!
that it is!
Shouldn't a cold brew old fashioned just be a "Cold Fashioned"?
Yes definitely
Greg, I just tried your Coffee Old Fashion this week-- LOVE IT. I'm so glad you recommended Mr. Black too, that stuff is really next level.
Thanks legend, yes, the Coffee Old Fashioned is mighty tasty.
The chiapparoni is fantastic. Ramazzoti works well for the amaro part. Using a local coffee liqueur. I've tried it with both lemon and orange, and the orange definitely has something a little extra. 0.25oz of Tuaca adds a nice little vanilla note as well!
Old Fashioned and coffee, I'm already sold. Can't wait for my prescription to be over so I can consume those two things again.
That Eye of Sauron jump cut scared the shit out of me yet brought so much pleasure.
Starbucks Reserve bars have a drink called The Melrose.
Cold brew
Cherry bitters
Demerara syrup
Shaken with ice
Finished with a luxardo cherry garnish.
I think you would love it
Coffee and orange comes up a lot this episode, and I love coffee and oranges, have since I read Wallace Steven's poem Sunday Morning which begins "complacencies of the peignoir, and late
coffee and oranges in a sunny chair"
Mr Black is fantastic stuff. 100% Arabica got my attention but I had my doubts until I tasted it! Love it with Tonic too. Wont be going back to kahlua!
Mr. Black is at the top of my list of new spirits to get... It's invaded my FB timeline something fierce, lately.
Gonna try all three of these. I wish I could get some Mr Black easily, but it is on my list.
Lubs me some Mr. Black. I like coffee, but always drink it black. Most cocktail recipes that call for Kahlua seem way to sweet for me. Mr. Black fits the bill just right. First started using it in Espresso Martinis.
Cheers legend.
I was also just using bourbon since i had so much of it for old fashioneds anyways. I'll see if I like it with rye more!
Thanks for the video. I made a drink with the Mr. Black I really like that I call "The Dark Between Stars"
2oz. Mr. Black (Or Jagermeister Cold Brew if you like a more botanical flavor.)
1oz. of Bourbon
3-4 Pumps of Torani Chocolate Syrup
10-12oz. of your favorite Cold Brew Coffee (I like Stok.)
Directions: Pour everything into a tumbler with a big chunk of ice roughly the size of a good whiskey rock and stir.
I don't know if I watch more for the drinks or for Greg singing. Love the show :)
Bravo!
3/4oz Amaro Ramazzotti
3/4oz Mr. Black
3/4oz Reposado Tequila
3 dashes Angostura Bitters
2 dashes Chocolate Bitters
Stirred. Over rocks, rocks glass.
I just made the coffee old fashion. It was the 💥. Great pre-dinner drink. I’ll go with the regular old fashion for my after dinner drink.
