    We stuff the next box floor to ceiling with hay. I find that they have much less cold loss that way. It's especially helpful for new moms who don't know exactly how to build a good nest.

    Happy to find you! New subscriber. I currently have 2 (first timers) pregnant does who will be kindling, Lord willing, in the next 2 weeks. Also looking to hatch my first incubated chicks in the next 24 hours or so 🥰❤
    I appreciate your insights and also your expression of faith. Thank you for sharing your experiences for others like me who are starting out with new adventures in homesteading!

    I raise meat rabbits too kat, easiest meat to raise ever. I have California males and New Zealand females. I haven’t even been able to personally eat any lately, as they sell faster than I can produce them. It’s a constant battle with the heat where I live. When I find a place to buy, imma get them a shed with a air conditioner run by solar. Love those braids beautiful :)

      @LittleBitsofHeavenHomestead  2 роки тому

      That’s a good problem to have! Far better than having too many rabbits and no interest.
      I bred my rabbits for heat tolerance but our summer temperatures here aren’t extreme. What are your temps like?

    Crazy how much work goes into domestic rabbits. I would run over around 30 jackrabbits every morning and every night in the oilfield.

      😆
      I call them plague monsters. They are covered in fleas and ticks here. I used to have a ton of cotton tail and jacks, my dogs keep their numbers down now.
      I’m good with putting in the work and having some control of my meat. Plus I get poop and pelts…and ridiculously adorable baby rabbits.

    Do you have any tips for rabbits that will not breed?? I've gotten 1 litter in 2 years and I'm very frustrated. I put them under lights, I've given them horny goat weed, I've switched their cages and I've put them together for a week at a time even. I have NO KITS!

    • @LittleBitsofHeavenHomestead

      What do you feed your does daily?

    • @LittleBitsofHeavenHomestead
      @LittleBitsofHeavenHomestead  2 роки тому

      Over the last couple years, I have had less kits than ever and I have heard lots of other homesteaders with rabbits having issues getting their rabbits to successfully kindle. You aren’t alone

      @@LittleBitsofHeavenHomestead depending on summer or winter they get 3/4-1cup of 16% pellet. In the winter they also get a pinch of BOSS or they will get rail thin. I'm in Northern MN. Hay too of course.

      @@LittleBitsofHeavenHomestead both does are proven, they each had 1 litter last summer and of course it was the hottest month on record for MN and they all died! Many many people lost rabbits up here cuz we had a drought.
