I have no idea what people are saying about this knife but mine was a 2.0 triple black but it is a beast and chipped ice off my porch and it didnt chip or dull in the slightest which for me was super impressive for me with no lock rock. Now they sell this same one with a steel insert which makes it easy replacement for longer use and I am going to grab one again gave a 3.0 for a gift and my 2.0 is in safe keeping since they do not make them.

I would like to point out that phosphate coatings do NOT provide corrosion resistance. That coating has to be paired with other substances to provide corrosion resistance. (often called P&O coatings, phosphate and oil) This coating won't provide corrosion resistance, but it's not much of an issue with D2. It is only 1% of chromium away from being stainless.

Fantastic review, had exactly what I was looking for. Really glad this was a field review versus the tabletop overviews that are a dime a dozen. Keep it up.

Oh yes absolutely. This is up for prefrence, however it is given that a blocky knife may be uncomfortable for more people than a rounded handle. There are quite a lot of reviews out there that adress that the squared off handle give hotspots during extended use. But yes ergos are generally personal prefrence.

Jdavis just did a good review of the HEST 2.0 and he stated that the new lock geometry that he examined on his example makes developing lock rock pretty much near impossible... He owned the first Lionsteel HEST folder and stated this one was heads and shoulders better in fit and finish.... The only complaint that i 100 % agree with you on is the use of teflon blade washers in a knife marketed as a "Harsh Environment Tool"... Would like to see them replace that oversight with Phos Bronze..

All the times I have seen this video and I never caught that. I always heard the sound but figured it was the metal. But now that you mentioned it - - it sure sounds that that's what happened. Matter of fact, I know it did because if it didn't they wouldn't have peeled away at that instant and when they came back it didn't match with what they just had showed...lol. Rez shouldn't have been doing something as silly as that anyhow. Wonder why they didn't edit that sound out. Good catch.

This knife is the 2.0. I have had mine for a couple of months now with no rock lock and I've used it in some pretty intense situations including a survival course. I know the first HEST folder had some problems, but it's safe to say that those problems were addressed and fixed with the 2.0.

Yes, but the teflon washers on Hinderes are thicker and more durable. That you could use allen keys to adjust the piviot I didn`t know, thank you for the tip. Like I said, I do not own a HEST, so I cannot attest to the ergos (most reviewers attest negative) but on the technical side I feel I can say something. Now you do own, and know more about knives than me (that is why I watch every video you put out :p). Thanks for the reply. :)

  • @jdavis882
    @jdavis882 12 років тому

Teflon washers are used in a lot of heavy duty knives.....the XM series from Rick Hinderer for example. Also, the pivot doesn't need the special tool to be adjusted. Regular allen keys work just fine. The lock is fixed now... The rotoblock is ridiculous and unneeded. The word gimmick comes to mind....
Overall it is a good knife for the price, but like most other knives it is not without flaws. :)

  • @Lorbera

For the price the knife has a lot of problems. The ergos, lock rock, the rotolock, the teflon washers (seriously?), the proprietary tool for adjusting the pivot (its ok in a normal knife, not in one that is so heavily marketed as a survival tool), and a couple of smaller things. I want to like the knife, but for a 175 $ it`s in my opinion just not worth it. I like the design, and really liked the ESEE Hest. Lets hope for a 3.0 version of the folder without all the problems the 2.0 version has.

  • @StarshipSmoochers

Disappointed. I expected a good Video, but this is just marketing.
You can literally ram any knife through anything, but having a look at it afterwards ist the interesting part.
Plus, cutting through alloy, then chopping a small tree to do a papercut with a different knife is a hoax.

I will add, that even though he broke the blade doing something he shouldn't have. That I couldn't ask anymore from my folder.I've done all the things in the woods I should be able to do with a piece this thick. But where it surprised me was that I made a bowl and a sharp looking cup,I'll use those the rest of my life.I thought with a blade being short and thick as it is that I couldn't pull it off but the stoutness of the blade allowed the small pulling cuts/shaving type of cuts.Great blade IMO.

    1) It's pine, I could cut it with a pair of nailclippers 2)it doesn't keep it's "blade" it keeps it's edge.

Rezo, the cutting of that tree looked a little hokey there Rez.;-) Not saying for sure but it looked like you were just pushing on the tree...no cutting whatsoever. Of course I don't expect you to say that, but just wanted to bring that up to you. Other than that it was a great vid.

Hello, I really like the knife and am impressed by its quality, but titanium frame lock is weak. In the video of Nutfancy after 3 min battoning, the frame splashed. Is this normal? I see no metal plate as some other models of Lion Steel. Apparently is not tempered where the titanium rubs in the blade. What would you tell me about it. Because I realy like the knife, but this video realy worried me. Here in our country, this knife is expensive. It's about 1/2 salary.

Oh.So you are just saying what you have heard. You never had it happen to you.So you are just repeating what others say. That's fair. But if you're going to repeat the bad, repeat the good and tell everyone while you follow around HEST vids that you know a guy who made a bowl and a cup with his folder and has never encountered lock rock. You can't get any harder on a folder than making a bowl and a cup, no way, nothing harder on the steel.Wonder why mine didn't MUSHROOM out? Heh.

Lorb. I keep reading all these posts of yours on this particular knife and you don't even own one. It seems like you are going to believe it's a crap knife no matter what anyone else says. I don't get it? I've had my one that I'm speaking of for a tad over two years and I don't have any lockrock of any kind at all.How is that?I overnight in the woods at least four times a month, even in the winter. Blade wise, all I take is my HEST and my machete. Why don't u get one and make up your own mind?:-)
