      How would you describe the flavor of Yerba? Does it have any natural sweetness, or would you need to add that to your drink?

    • @JulianLorenc
      @JulianLorenc 9 місяців тому +2

      @@lukaspfalz6128 It depends on the type of the mate. None of pure yerba mate have natural, sweet taste but you can find some with stevia. I think that it's better to sweeten it yourself with honey but I've never tried this because I enjoy that bitterness of mate. Most types of yerba mate have either grassy or groundy taste, sometimes you can feel the smoke or some wood but as I said, each yerba mate has different flavor notes

    how do all the leaves get exposed to water if you pour in the same spot without stirring??

    • @linary
      @linary Рік тому +4

      it's simple, the flavor of yerba mate is very strong (very bitter for my taste) when you fill it with water is sucked by the dry leaves and give off that mild bitter taste (like any tea bag that you soak it again and again get flavor) and no matter how many times you take it still has that mild bitter taste, obviously after several times the flavor decreases and you have to change, but you do not usually take both one or two full teapots.

  • @Kleiner_Lutz

    2 questions: how often do you refill one cup? And why do you only add water to the water hole but never to the dry, "unused" leaves on top of your mountain?

    • @erebosII
      @erebosII 10 місяців тому +2

      First: until your yerba mate is "lavado" (ausgewaschen 😉) which is probably by the 5th to 6th refill. Second: the water will make its way to the dry part within the refill process. So you certainly want to slow down on this. If you pour water all over, your yerba mate will become "lavado" even faster and the taste would be too strong.. And don't you ever move the bombilla!

And after lets say in a gourd like this 20-25 infusions u can press the mountain on the other side and have some fresh infusions. And when u dont want to drink anymore cuz its late or its too mild for u u wash it out let it dry and do it again the next day. It's pretty bitter and earthy. My palette is used to bitter at this point but it'll take awhile to get used to it. For sure an acquired taste but it's well worth it.

      Bombilla. Its basically a metal straw, but the bottom part has a special made metal filter, so you dont swallow the Yerba when you sip.
